18:1And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 18:2Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am Jehovah your God. 18:3After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do; neither shall ye walk in their statutes. 18:4Mine ordinances shall ye do, and my statutes shall ye keep, to walk therein: I am Jehovah your God. 18:5Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and mine ordinances; which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am Jehovah.
18:6None of you shall approach to any that are near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am Jehovah. 18:7The nakedness of thy father, even the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 18:8The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness. 18:9The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or the daughter of thy mother, whether born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. 18:10The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness. 18:11The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 18:12Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman. 18:13Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman. 18:14Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt. 18:15Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter-in-law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. 18:16Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness. 18:17Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter; thou shalt not take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are near kinswomen: it is wickedness. 18:18And thou shalt not take a wife to her sister, to be a rival to her, to uncover her nakedness, besides the other in her life-time.
18:19And thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is impure by her uncleanness. 18:20And thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbor's wife, to defile thyself with her. 18:21And thou shalt not give any of thy seed to make them pass through the fire to Molech; neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am Jehovah. 18:22Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 18:23And thou shalt not lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith; neither shall any woman stand before a beast, to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
18:24Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out from before you; 18:25And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land vomiteth out her inhabitants. 18:26Ye therefore shall keep my statutes and mine ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations; neither the home-born, nor the stranger that sojourneth among you; 18:27(for all these abominations have the men of the land done, that were before you, and the land is defiled); 18:28that the land vomit not you out also, when ye defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you. 18:29For whosoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people. 18:30Therefore shall ye keep my charge, that ye practise not any of these abominable customs, which were practised before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am Jehovah your God.
For the Chief Musician; set to *Aijaleth hash-Shahar. A Psalm of David.
22:1My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?
22:2O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou answerest not;
And in the night season, and am not silent.
22:3But thou art holy,
O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
22:4Our fathers trusted in thee:
They trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
22:5They cried unto thee, and were delivered:
They trusted in thee, and were not put to shame.
22:6But I am a worm, and no man;
A reproach of men, and despised of the people.
22:7All they that see me laugh me to scorn:
They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
22:8Commit thyself unto Jehovah;
Let him deliver him:
Let him rescue him, seeing he delighteth in him.
22:9But thou art he that took me out of the womb;
Thou didst make me trust when I was upon my mother's breasts.
22:10I was cast upon thee from the womb;
Thou art my God since my mother bare me.
22:11Be not far from me; for trouble is near;
For there is none to help.
22:12Many bulls have compassed me;
Strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
22:13They gape upon me with their mouth,
As a ravening and a roaring lion.
22:14I am poured out like water,
And all my bones are out of joint:
My heart is like wax;
It is melted within me.
22:15My strength is dried up like a potsherd;
And my tongue cleaveth to my jaws;
And thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
22:16For dogs have compassed me:
A company of evil-doers have inclosed me;
They pierced my hands and my feet.
22:17I may count all my bones;
They look and stare upon me.
22:18They part my garments among them,
And upon my vesture do they cast lots.
22:19But be not thou far off, O Jehovah:
O thou my succor, haste thee to help me.
22:20Deliver my soul from the sword,
My darling from the power of the dog.
22:21Save me from the lion's mouth;
Yea, from the horns of the wild-oxen thou hast answered me.
22:22I will declare thy name unto my brethren:
In the midst of the assembly will I praise thee.
22:23Ye that fear Jehovah, praise him;
All ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him;
And stand in awe of him, all ye the seed of Israel.
22:24For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
Neither hath he hid his face from him;
But when he cried unto him, he heard.
22:25Of thee cometh my praise in the great assembly:
I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
22:26The meek shall eat and be satisfied;
They shall praise Jehovah that seek after him:
Let your heart live for ever.
22:27All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn unto Jehovah;
And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
22:28For the kingdom is Jehovah's;
And he is the ruler over the nations.
22:29All the fat ones of the earth shall eat and worship:
All they that go down to the dust shall bow before him,
Even he that cannot keep his soul alive.
22:30A seed shall serve him;
It shall be told of the Lord unto the next generation.
22:31They shall come and shall declare his righteousness
Unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done it.
1:1The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 1:2Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; vanity of vanities, all is vanity. 1:3What profit hath man of all his labor wherein he laboreth under the sun? 1:4One generation goeth, and another generation cometh; but the earth abideth for ever. 1:5The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to its place where it ariseth. 1:6The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it turneth about continually in its course, and the wind returneth again to its circuits. 1:7All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; unto the place whither the rivers go, thither they go again. 1:8All things are full of weariness; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 1:9That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. 1:10Is there a thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been long ago, in the ages which were before us. 1:11There is no remembrance of the former generations; neither shall there be any remembrance of the latter generations that are to come, among those that shall come after. 1:12I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 1:13And I applied my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven: it is a sore travail that God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith. 1:14I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind. 1:15That which is crooked cannot be made straight; and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. 1:16I communed with mine own hear, saying, Lo, I have gotten me great wisdom above all that were before me in Jerusalem; yea, my heart hath had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. 1:17And I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also was a striving after wind. 1:18For in much wisdom is much grief; and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
3:1Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. 3:2The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach; 3:3no brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money; 3:4one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; 3:5(but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) 3:6not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the devil. 3:7Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. 3:8Deacons in like manner must be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre; 3:9holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. 3:10And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless. 3:11Women in like manner must be grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. 3:12Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. 3:13For they that have served well as deacons gain to themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. 3:14These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly; 3:15but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. 3:16And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness;
He who was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the spirit,
Seen of angels,
Preached among the nations,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
