Judges

16:1And Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a harlot, and went in unto her. 16:2And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, Let be till morning light, then we will kill him. 16:3And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and laid hold of the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and plucked them up, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron.

16:4And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. 16:5And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver. 16:6And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee. 16:7And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I become weak, and be as another man. 16:8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withes which had not been dried, and she bound him with them. 16:9Now she had liers-in-wait abiding in the inner chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withes, as a string of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

16:10And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound. 16:11And he said unto her, If they only bind me with new ropes wherewith no work hath been done, then shall I become weak, and be as another man. 16:12So Delilah took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And the liers-in-wait were abiding in the inner chamber. And he brake them off his arms like a thread.

16:13And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web. 16:14And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and plucked away the pin of the beam, and the web.

16:15And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thy heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth. 16:16And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was vexed unto death. 16:17And he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon my head; for I have been a Nazirite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man. 16:18And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath told me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought the money in their hand. 16:19And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. 16:20And she said, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free. But he knew not that Jehovah was departed from him. 16:21And the Philistines laid hold on him, and put out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison-house. 16:22Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

16:23And the lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand. 16:24And when the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hand our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, who hath slain many of us. 16:25And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison-house; and he made sport before them. And they set him between the pillars: 16:26and Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house resteth, that I may lean upon them. 16:27Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.

16:28And Samson called unto Jehovah, and said, O Lord Jehovah, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. 16:29And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house rested, and leaned upon them, the one with his right hand, and the other with his left. 16:30And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead that he slew at his death were more than they that he slew in his life. 16:31Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burying-place of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

The Acts of the Apostles

20:1And after the uproar ceased, Paul having sent for the disciples and exhorted them, took leave of them, and departed to go into Macedonia. 20:2And when he had gone through those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece. 20:3And when he had spent three months there, and a plot was laid against him by Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he determined to return through Macedonia. 20:4And there accompanied him as far as Asia, Sopater of Beroea, the son of Pyrrhus; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus. 20:5But these had gone before, and were waiting for us at Troas. 20:6And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days, where we tarried seven days. 20:7And upon the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and prolonged his speech until midnight. 20:8And there were many lights in the upper chamber where we were gathered together. 20:9And there sat in the window a certain young man named Eutychus, borne down with deep sleep; and as Paul discoursed yet longer, being borne down by his sleep he fell down from the third story, and was taken up dead. 20:10And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Make ye no ado; for his life is in him. 20:11And when he was gone up, and had broken the bread, and eaten, and had talked with them a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 20:12And they brought the lad alive, and were not a little comforted. 20:13But we going before to the ship set sail for Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, intending himself to go by land. 20:14And when he met us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene. 20:15And sailing from thence, we came the following day over against Chios; and the next day we touched at Samos; and the day after we came to Miletus. 20:16For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, that he might not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hastening, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost. 20:17And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called to him the elders of the church. 20:18And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, after what manner I was with you all the time, 20:19serving the Lord with all lowliness of mind, and with tears, and with trials which befell me by the plots of the Jews; 20:20how I shrank not from declaring unto you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly, and from house to house, 20:21testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 20:22And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 20:23save that the Holy Spirit testifieth unto me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 20:24But I hold not my life of any account as dear unto myself, so that I may accomplish my course, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 20:25And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I went about preaching the kingdom, shall see my face no more. 20:26Wherefore I testify unto you this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. 20:27For I shrank not from declaring unto you the whole counsel of God. 20:28Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood. 20:29I know that after my departing grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock; 20:30and from among your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. 20:31Wherefore watch ye, remembering that by the space of three years I ceased not to admonish every one night and day with tears. 20:32And now I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you the inheritance among all them that are sanctified. 20:33I coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. 20:34Ye yourselves know that these hands ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 20:35In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring ye ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. 20:36And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down and prayed with them all. 20:37And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck and kissed him, 20:38sorrowing most of all for the word which he had spoken, that they should behold his face no more. And they brought him on his way unto the ship.

Jeremiah

29:1Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon, 29:2(after that Jeconiah the king, and the queen-mother, and the eunuchs, and the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen, and the smiths, were departed from Jerusalem,) 29:3by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,) saying, 29:4Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all the captivity, whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem unto Babylon: 29:5Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them. 29:6Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; and multiply ye there, and be not diminished. 29:7And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray unto Jehovah for it; for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace. 29:8For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that are in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you; neither hearken ye to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. 29:9For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith Jehovah. 29:10For thus saith Jehovah, After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place. 29:11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end. 29:12And ye shall call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 29:13And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 29:14And I will be found of you, saith Jehovah, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places wither I have driven you, saith Jehovah; and I will bring you again unto the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive. 29:15Because ye have said, Jehovah hath raised us up prophets in Babylon; 29:16thus saith Jehovah concerning the king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and concerning all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity; 29:17thus saith Jehovah of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so bad. 29:18And I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an execration, and an astonishment, and a hissing, and a reproach, among all the nations whither I have driven them; 29:19because they have not hearkened to my words, saith Jehovah, wherewith I sent unto them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith Jehovah. 29:20Hear ye therefore the word of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon. 29:21Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie unto you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes; 29:22and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire; 29:23because they have wrought folly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors' wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I commanded them not; and I am he that knoweth, and am witness, saith Jehovah. 29:24And concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite thou shalt speak, saying, 29:25Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thine own name unto all the people that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying, 29:26Jehovah hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in the house of Jehovah, for every man that is mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in the stocks and in shackles. 29:27Now therefore, why hast thou not rebuked Jeremiah of Anathoth, who maketh himself a prophet to you, 29:28forasmuch as he hath sent unto us in Babylon, saying, The captivity is long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them? 29:29And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet. 29:30Then came the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah, saying, 29:31Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he hath caused you to trust in a lie; 29:32therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he behold the good that I will do unto my people, saith Jehovah, because he hath spoken rebellion against Jehovah.

Mark

15:1And straightway in the morning the chief priests with the elders and scribes, and the whole council, held a consultation, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate. 15:2And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering saith unto him, Thou sayest. 15:3And the chief priests accused him of many things. 15:4And Pilate again asked him, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they accuse thee of. 15:5But Jesus no more answered anything; insomuch that Pilate marvelled. 15:6Now at the feast he used to release unto them one prisoner, whom they asked of him. 15:7And there was one called Barabbas, lying bound with them that had made insurrection, men who in the insurrection had committed murder. 15:8And the multitude went up and began to ask him to do as he was wont to do unto them. 15:9And Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? 15:10For he perceived that for envy the chief priests had delivered him up. 15:11But the chief priests stirred up the multitude, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them. 15:12And Pilate again answered and said unto them, What then shall I do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews? 15:13And they cried out again, Crucify him. 15:14And Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, Crucify him. 15:15And Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released unto them Barabbas, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified. 15:16And the soldiers led him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. 15:17And they clothe him with purple, and platting a crown of thorns, they put it on him; 15:18and they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! 15:19And they smote his head with a reed, and spat upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. 15:20And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the purple, and put on him his garments. And they lead him out to crucify him. 15:21And they compel one passing by, Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to go with them, that he might bear his cross. 15:22And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. 15:23And they offered him wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. 15:24And they crucify him, and part his garments among them, casting lots upon them, what each should take. 15:25And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. 15:26And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 15:27And with him they crucify two robbers; one on his right hand, and one on his left. 15:28And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was reckoned with transgressors. 15:29And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ha! Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, 15:30save thyself, and come down from the cross. 15:31In like manner also the chief priests mocking him among themselves with the scribes said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. 15:32Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him. 15:33And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 15:34And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 15:35And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elijah. 15:36And one ran, and filling a sponge full of vinegar, put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let be; let us see whether Elijah cometh to take him down. 15:37And Jesus uttered a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. 15:38And the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom. 15:39And when the centurion, who stood by over against him, saw that he so gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. 15:40And there were also women beholding from afar: among whom were both Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; 15:41who, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him; and many other women that came up with him unto Jerusalem. 15:42And when even was now come, because it was the Preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, 15:43there came Joseph of Arimathaea, a councillor of honorable estate, who also himself was looking for the kingdom of God; and he boldly went in unto Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. 15:44And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. 15:45And when he learned it of the centurion, he granted the corpse to Joseph. 15:46And he bought a linen cloth, and taking him down, wound him in the linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 15:47And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.
