1 Samuel

10:1Then Samuel took the vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not that Jehovah hath anointed thee to be prince over his inheritance? 10:2When thou art departed from me to-day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre, in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found; and, lo, thy father hath left off caring for the asses, and is anxious for you, saying, What shall I do for my son? 10:3Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the oak of Tabor; and there shall meet thee there three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine: 10:4and they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread, which thou shalt receive of their hand. 10:5After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a timbrel, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they will be prophesying: 10:6and the Spirit of Jehovah will come mightily upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man. 10:7And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion shall serve thee; for God is with thee. 10:8And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt-offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace-offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come unto thee, and show thee what thou shalt do.

10:9And it was so, that, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day. 10:10And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a band of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came mightily upon him, and he prophesied among them. 10:11And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied with the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets? 10:12And one of the same place answered and said, And who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets? 10:13And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

10:14And Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses; and when we saw that they were not found, we came to Samuel. 10:15And Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you. 10:16And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But concerning the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

10:17And Samuel called the people together unto Jehovah to Mizpah; 10:18and he said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all the kingdoms that oppressed you: 10:19but ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saveth you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before Jehovah by your tribes, and by your thousands. 10:20So Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near, and the tribe of Benjamin was taken. 10:21And he brought the tribe of Benjamin near by their families; and the family of the Matrites was taken; and Saul the son of Kish was taken: but when they sought him, he could not be found. 10:22Therefore they asked of Jehovah further, Is there yet a man to come hither? And Jehovah answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the baggage. 10:23And they ran and fetched him thence; and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward. 10:24And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom Jehovah hath chosen, that there is none like him along all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, Long live the king.

10:25Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before Jehovah. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house. 10:26And Saul also went to his house to Gibeah; and there went with him the host, whose hearts God had touched. 10:27But certain worthless fellows said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no present. But he held his peace.

Romans

8:1There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. 8:2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. 8:3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 8:4that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 8:5For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 8:6For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace: 8:7because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be: 8:8and they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 8:9But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 8:10And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. 8:11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 8:12So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh: 8:13for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 8:14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 8:15For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 8:16The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God: 8:17and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him. 8:18For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward. 8:19For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God. 8:20For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope 8:21that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. 8:22For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. 8:23And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. 8:24For in hope were we saved: but hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopeth for that which he seeth? 8:25But if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. 8:26And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered; 8:27and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. 8:28And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose. 8:29For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: 8:30and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 8:31What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 8:32He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things? 8:33Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth; 8:34who is he that condemneth? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 8:35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 8:36Even as it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 8:37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 8:38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 8:39nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Jeremiah

47:1The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza. 47:2Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and them that dwell therein; and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail. 47:3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers look not back to their children for feebleness of hands; 47:4because of the day that cometh to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remaineth: for Jehovah will destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor. 47:5Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is brought to nought, the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself? 47:6O thou sword of Jehovah, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard; rest, and be still. 47:7How canst thou be quiet, seeing Jehovah hath given thee a charge? Against Ashkelon, and against the sea-shore, there hath he appointed it.

Psalms

A Psalm of David.

 23:1Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.

 23:2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures;

 He leadeth me beside still waters.

 23:3He restoreth my soul:

 He guideth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

 23:4Yea, thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

 I will fear no evil; for thou art with me;

 Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

 23:5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

 Thou hast anointed my head with oil;

 My cup runneth over.

 23:6Surely goodness and lovingkindness shall follow me all the days of my life;

 And I shall dwell in the house of Jehovah for ever.

Psalm 24

A Psalm of David.

 24:1The earth is Jehovah's, and the fulness thereof;

 The world, and they that dwell therein.

 24:2For he hath founded it upon the seas,

 And established it upon the floods.

 24:3Who shall ascend into the hill of Jehovah?

 And who shall stand in his holy place?

 24:4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart;

 Who hath not lifted up his soul unto falsehood,

 And hath not sworn deceitfully.

 24:5He shall receive a blessing from Jehovah,

 And righteousness from the God of his salvation.

 24:6This is the generation of them that seek after him,

 That seek thy face, even Jacob.

 24:8Who is the King of glory?

 Jehovah strong and mighty,

 Jehovah mighty in battle.

 24:9Lift up your heads, O ye gates;

 Yea, lift them up, ye everlasting doors:

 And the King of glory will come in.

 24:10Who is this King of glory?

 Jehovah of hosts,

 He is the King of glory.
