2 Chronicles

6:12And he stood before the altar of Jehovah in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands 6:13(for Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;) 6:14and he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven, or on earth; who keepest covenant and lovingkindness with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their heart; 6:15who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day. 6:16Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as thou hast walked before me. 6:17Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David. 6:18But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have builded! 6:19Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee; 6:20that thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place. 6:21And hearken thou to the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: yea, hear thou from thy dwelling-place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest forgive. 6:22If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he come and swear before thine altar in this house; 6:23then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, requiting the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. 6:24And if thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house; 6:25then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers. 6:26When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them: 6:27then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou teachest them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance. 6:28If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague or whatsoever sickness there be; 6:29what prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man his own plague and his own sorrow, and shall spread forth his hands toward this house: 6:30then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling-place and forgive, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of the children of men;) 6:31that they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. 6:32Moreover concerning the foreigner, that is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come from a far country for thy great name's sake, and thy mighty hand, and thine outstretched arm; when they shall come and pray toward this house: 6:33then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name. 6:34If thy people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatsoever way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name; 6:35then hear thou from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. 6:36If they sin against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not), and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive unto a land far off or near; 6:37yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done perversely, and have dealt wickedly; 6:38if they return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captive, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name: 6:39then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee. 6:40Now, O my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place. 6:41Now therefore arise, O Jehovah God, into thy resting-place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Jehovah God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness. 6:42O Jehovah God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember thy lovingkindnesses to David thy servant.

1 John

5:1Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. 5:2Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments. 5:3For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 5:4For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, even our faith. 5:5And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 5:6This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood. 5:7And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is the truth. 5:8For there are three who bear witness, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and the three agree in one. 5:9If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for the witness of God is this, that he hath borne witness concerning his Son. 5:10He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in him: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he hath not believed in the witness that God hath borne concerning his Son. 5:11And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 5:12He that hath the Son hath the life; he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life. 5:13These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, even unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God. 5:14And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us: 5:15and if we know that he heareth us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him. 5:16If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say that he should make request. 5:17All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. 5:18We know that whosoever is begotten of God sinneth not; but he that was begotten of God keepeth himself, and the evil one toucheth him not. 5:19We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one. 5:20And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 5:21My little children, guard yourselves from idols.

Habakkuk

1:1The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. 1:2O Jehovah, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save. 1:3Why dost thou show me iniquity, and look upon perverseness? for destruction and violence are before me; and there is strife, and contention riseth up. 1:4Therefore the law is slacked, and justice doth never go forth; for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore justice goeth forth perverted. 1:5Behold ye among the nations, and look, and wonder marvellously; for I am working a work in your days, which ye will not believe though it be told you. 1:6For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs. 1:7They are terrible and dreadful; their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves. 1:8Their horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen press proudly on: yea, their horsemen come from far; they fly as an eagle that hasteth to devour. 1:9They come all of them for violence; the set of their faces is forwards; and they gather captives as the sand. 1:10Yea, he scoffeth at kings, and princes are a derision unto him; he derideth every stronghold; for he heapeth up dust, and taketh it. 1:11Then shall he sweep by as a wind, and shall pass over, and be guilty, even he whose might is his god. 1:12Art not thou from everlasting, O Jehovah my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Jehovah, thou hast ordained him for judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established him for correction. 1:13Thou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he; 1:14and makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? 1:15He taketh up all of them with the angle, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad. 1:16Therefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous. 1:17Shall he therefore empty his net, and spare not to slay the nations continually?

Luke

20:1And it came to pass, on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, there came upon him the chief priests and the scribes with the elders; 20:2and they spake, saying unto him, Tell us: By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority? 20:3And he answered and said unto them, I also will ask you a question; and tell me: 20:4The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? 20:5And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why did ye not believe him? 20:6But if we shall say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet. 20:7And they answered, that they knew not whence it was. 20:8And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. 20:9And he began to speak unto the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country for a long time. 20:10And at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty. 20:11And he sent yet another servant: and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty. 20:12And he sent yet a third: and him also they wounded, and cast him forth. 20:13And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will reverence him. 20:14But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours. 20:15And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them? 20:16He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid. 20:17But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written,

The stone which the builders rejected,

The same was made the head of the corner?

20:18Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. 20:19And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them. 20:20And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor. 20:21And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person of any, but of a truth teachest the way of God: 20:22Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 20:23But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, 20:24Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar's. 20:25And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. 20:26And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace. 20:27And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection; 20:28and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man's brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 20:29There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless; 20:30and the second: 20:31and the third took her; and likewise the seven also left no children, and died. 20:32Afterward the woman also died. 20:33In the resurrection therefore whose wife of them shall she be? for the seven had her to wife. 20:34And Jesus said unto them, The sons of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 20:35but they that are accounted worthy to attain to that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 20:36for neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. 20:37But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the place concerning the Bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 20:38Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. 20:39And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said. 20:40For they durst not any more ask him any question. 20:41And he said unto them, How say they that the Christ is David's son? 20:42For David himself saith in the book of Psalms,

The Lord said unto my Lord,

Sit thou on my right hand,

20:43Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

20:44David therefore calleth him Lord, and how is he his son? 20:45And in the hearing of all the people he said unto his disciples, 20:46Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts; 20:47who devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation.
