8:1And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, wherein Solomon had built the house of Jehovah, and his own house, 8:2that the cities which Huram had given to Solomon, Solomon built them, and caused the children of Israel to dwell there. 8:3And Solomon went to Hamath-zobah, and prevailed against it. 8:4And he built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store-cities, which he built in Hamath. 8:5Also he built Beth-horon the upper, and Beth-horon the nether, fortified cities, with walls, gates, and bars; 8:6and Baalath, and all the store-cities that Solomon had, and all the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion. 8:7As for all the people that were left of the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, that were not of Israel; 8:8of their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel consumed not, of them did Solomon raise a levy of bondservants unto this day. 8:9But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen. 8:10And these were the chief officers of king Solomon, even two hundred and fifty, that bare rule over the people. 8:11And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her; for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of Jehovah hath come. 8:12Then Solomon offered burnt-offerings unto Jehovah on the altar of Jehovah, which he had built before the porch, 8:13even as the duty of every day required, offering according to the commandment of Moses, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts, three times in the year, even in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles. 8:14And he appointed, according to the ordinance of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their offices, to praise, and to minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required; the doorkeepers also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded. 8:15And they departed not from the commandment of the king unto the priests and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures. 8:16Now all the work of Solomon was prepared unto the day of the foundation of the house of Jehovah, and until it was finished. So the house of Jehovah was completed. 8:17Then went Solomon to Ezion-geber, and to Eloth, on the seashore in the land of Edom. 8:18And Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants that had knowledge of the sea; and they came with the servants of Solomon to Ophir, and fetched from thence four hundred and fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Solomon.
1:1The elder unto Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth. 1:2Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 1:3For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bare witness unto thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth. 1:4Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth. 1:5Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest toward them that are brethren and strangers withal; 1:6who bare witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well to set forward on their journey worthily of God: 1:7because that for the sake of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. 1:8We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow-workers for the truth. 1:9I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. 1:10Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth and casteth them out of the church. 1:11Beloved, imitate not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: he that doeth evil hath not seen God. 1:12Demetrius hath the witness of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness: and thou knowest that our witness is true. 1:13I had many things to write unto thee, but I am unwilling to write them to thee with ink and pen: 1:14but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be unto thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
3:1A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, set to Shigionoth.
3:2O Jehovah, I have heard the report of thee, and am afraid:
O Jehovah, revive thy work in the midst of the years;
In the midst of the years make it known;
In wrath remember mercy.
3:3God came from Teman,
And the Holy One from mount Paran.
Selah.
His glory covered the heavens,
And the earth was full of his praise.
3:4And his brightness was as the light;
He had rays coming forth from his hand;
And there was the hiding of his power.
3:5Before him went the pestilence,
And fiery bolts went forth at his feet.
3:6He stood, and measured the earth;
He beheld, and drove asunder the nations;
And the eternal mountains were scattered;
The everlasting hills did bow;
His goings were as of old.
3:7I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction;
The curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
3:8Was Jehovah displeased with the rivers?
Was thine anger against the rivers,
Or thy wrath against the sea,
That thou didst ride upon thy horses,
Upon thy chariots of salvation?
3:9Thy bow was made quite bare;
The oaths to the tribes were a sure word.
Selah.
Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
3:10The mountains saw thee, and were afraid;
The tempest of waters passed by;
The deep uttered its voice,
And lifted up its hands on high.
3:11The sun and moon stood still in their habitation,
At the light of thine arrows as they went,
At the shining of thy glittering spear.
3:12Thou didst march though the land in indignation;
Thou didst thresh the nations in anger.
3:13Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people,
For the salvation of thine anointed;
Thou woundest the head out of the house of the wicked man,
Laying bare the foundation even unto the neck.
Selah.
3:14Thou didst pierce with his own staves the head of his warriors:
They came as a whirlwind to scatter me;
Their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
3:15Thou didst tread the sea with thy horses,
The heap of mighty waters.
3:16I heard, and my body trembled,
My lips quivered at the voice;
Rottenness entereth into my bones, and I tremble in my place;
Because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble,
For the coming up of the people that invadeth us.
3:17For though the fig-tree shall not flourish,
Neither shall fruit be in the vines;
The labor of the olive shall fail,
And the fields shall yield no food;
The flock shall be cut off from the fold,
And there shall be no herd in the stalls:
3:18Yet I will rejoice in Jehovah,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
3:19Jehovah, the Lord, is my strength;
And he maketh my feet like hinds' feet,
And will make me to walk upon my high places.
22:1Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. 22:2And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people. 22:3And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. 22:4And he went away, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might deliver him unto them. 22:5And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money. 22:6And he consented, and sought opportunity to deliver him unto them in the absence of the multitude. 22:7And the day of unleavened bread came, on which the passover must be sacrificed. 22:8And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make ready for us the passover, that we may eat. 22:9And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we make ready? 22:10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house whereinto he goeth. 22:11And ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? 22:12And he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. 22:13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover. 22:14And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the apostles with him. 22:15And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: 22:16for I say unto you, I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. 22:17And he received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 22:18for I say unto you, I shall not drink from henceforth of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 22:19And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 22:20And the cup in like manner after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, even that which is poured out for you. 22:21But behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. 22:22For the Son of man indeed goeth, as it hath been determined: but woe unto that man through whom he is betrayed! 22:23And they began to question among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing. 22:24And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest. 22:25And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. 22:26But ye shall not be so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. 22:27For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth. 22:28But ye are they that have continued with me in my temptations; 22:29and I appoint unto you a kingdom, even as my Father appointed unto me, 22:30that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 22:31Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat: 22:32but I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not; and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren. 22:33And he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death. 22:34And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, until thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me. 22:35And he said unto them, When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing. 22:36And he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword. 22:37For I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, And he was reckoned with transgressors: for that which concerneth me hath fulfilment. 22:38And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. 22:39And he came out, and went, as his custom was, unto the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him. 22:40And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 22:41And he was parted from them about a stone's cast; and he kneeled down and prayed, 22:42saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. 22:43And there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 22:44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground. 22:45And when he rose up from his prayer, he came unto the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow, 22:46and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. 22:47While he yet spake, behold, a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them; and he drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. 22:48But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss? 22:49And when they that were about him saw what would follow, they said, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? 22:50And a certain one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear. 22:51But Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye them thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him. 22:52And Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, that were come against him, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves? 22:53When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. 22:54And they seized him, and led him away, and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off. 22:55And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them. 22:56And a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light of the fire, and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him. 22:57But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not. 22:58And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou also art one of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not. 22:59And after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilaean. 22:60But Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. 22:61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow this day thou shalt deny me thrice. 22:62And he went out, and wept bitterly. 22:63And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and beat him. 22:64And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee? 22:65And many other things spake they against him, reviling him. 22:66And as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying, 22:67If thou art the Christ, tell us. But he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: 22:68and if I ask you, ye will not answer. 22:69But from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God. 22:70And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am. 22:71And they said, What further need have we of witness? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.
