10:1And Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king. 10:2And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon,) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. 10:3And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came, and they spake to Rehoboam, saying, 10:4Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee. 10:5And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed. 10:6And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people? 10:7And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever. 10:8But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him. 10:9And he said unto them, What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter? 10:10And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins. 10:11And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 10:12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day. 10:13And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men, 10:14and spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. 10:15So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was brought about of God, that Jehovah might establish his word, which he spake by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. 10:16And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So all Israel departed unto their tents. 10:17But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them. 10:18Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to taskwork; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. 10:19So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.
1:1The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show unto his servants, even the things which must shortly come to pass: and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John; 1:2who bare witness of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, even of all things that he saw. 1:3Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written therein: for the time is at hand. 1:4John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from him who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits that are before his throne; 1:5and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loveth us, and loosed us from our sins by his blood; 1:6and he made us to be a kingdom, to be priests unto his God and Father; to him be the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1:7Behold, he cometh with the clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they that pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth shall mourn over him. Even so, Amen. 1:8I am the Alpha and the Omega, saith the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. 1:9I John, your brother and partaker with you in tribulation and kingdom and patience which are in Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 1:10I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet 1:11saying, What thou seest, write in a book and send it to the seven churches: unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamum, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 1:12And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And having turned I saw seven golden candlesticks; 1:13and in the midst of the candlesticks one like unto a son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about at the breasts with a golden girdle. 1:14And his head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 1:15and his feet like unto burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a furnace; and his voice as the voice of many waters. 1:16And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 1:17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as one dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying, Fear not; I am the first and the last, 1:18and the Living one; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades. 1:19Write therefore the things which thou sawest, and the things which are, and the things which shall come to pass hereafter; 1:20the mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks are seven churches.
2:1Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation that hath no shame; 2:2before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of Jehovah come upon you, before the day of Jehovah's anger come upon you. 2:3Seek ye Jehovah, all ye meek of the earth, that have kept his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye will be hid in the day of Jehovah's anger. 2:4For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation; they shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be rooted up. 2:5Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea-coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Jehovah is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines; I will destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant. 2:6And the sea-coast shall be pastures, with cottages for shepherds and folds for flocks. 2:7And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed their flocks thereupon; in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening; for Jehovah their God will visit them, and bring back their captivity. 2:8I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border. 2:9Therefore as I live, saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, a possession of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall make a prey of them, and the remnant of my nation shall inherit them. 2:10This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of Jehovah of hosts. 2:11Jehovah will be terrible unto them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the nations. 2:12Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword. 2:13And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria, and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like the wilderness. 2:14And herds shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the pelican and the porcupine shall lodge in the capitals thereof; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds: for he hath laid bare the cedar-work. 2:15This is the joyous city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none besides me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
24:1But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came unto the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared. 24:2And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 24:3And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. 24:4And it came to pass, while they were perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel: 24:5and as they were affrighted and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 24:6He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 24:7saying that the Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 24:8And they remembered his words, 24:9and returned from the tomb, and told all these things to the eleven, and to all the rest. 24:10Now they were Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James: and the other women with them told these things unto the apostles. 24:11And these words appeared in their sight as idle talk; and they disbelieved them. 24:12But Peter arose, and ran unto the tomb; and stooping and looking in, he seeth the linen cloths by themselves; and he departed to his home, wondering at that which was come to pass. 24:13And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus, which was threescore furlongs from Jerusalem. 24:14And they communed with each other of all these things which had happened. 24:15And it came to pass, while they communed and questioned together, that Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 24:16But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. 24:17And he said unto them, What communications are these that ye have one with another, as ye walk? And they stood still, looking sad. 24:18And one of them, named Cleopas, answering said unto him, Dost thou alone sojourn in Jerusalem and not know the things which are come to pass there in these days? 24:19And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 24:20and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him. 24:21But we hoped that it was he who should redeem Israel. Yea and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things came to pass. 24:22Moreover certain women of our company amazed us, having been early at the tomb; 24:23and when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive. 24:24And certain of them that were with us went to the tomb, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. 24:25And he said unto them, O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 24:26Behooved it not the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory? 24:27And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 24:28And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they were going: and he made as though he would go further. 24:29And they constrained him, saying, Abide with us; for it is toward evening, and the day is now far spent. And he went in to abide with them. 24:30And it came to pass, when he had sat down with them to meat, he took the bread and blessed; and breaking it he gave to them. 24:31And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 24:32And they said one to another, Was not our heart burning within us, while he spake to us in the way, while he opened to us the scriptures? 24:33And they rose up that very hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, 24:34saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 24:35And they rehearsed the things that happened in the way, and how he was known of them in the breaking of the bread. 24:36And as they spake these things, he himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 24:37But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they beheld a spirit. 24:38And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and wherefore do questionings arise in your heart? 24:39See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye behold me having. 24:40And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. 24:41And while they still disbelieved for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here anything to eat? 24:42And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish. 24:43And he took it, and ate before them. 24:44And he said unto them, These are my words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled, which are written in the law of Moses, and the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me. 24:45Then opened he their mind, that they might understand the scriptures; 24:46and he said unto them, Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day; 24:47and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 24:48Ye are witnesses of these things. 24:49And behold, I send forth the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city, until ye be clothed with power from on high. 24:50And he led them out until they were over against Bethany: and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 24:51And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven. 24:52And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 24:53and were continually in the temple, blessing God.
