Genesis

34:1And Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. 34:2And Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her; And he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her. 34:3And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel. 34:4And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife. 34:5Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; and his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they came. 34:6And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him. 34:7And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done. 34:8And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you, give her unto him to wife. 34:9And make ye marriages with us; give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you. 34:10And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein. 34:11And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find favor in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give. 34:12Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife. 34:13And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with guile, and spake, because he had defiled Dinah their sister, 34:14and said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us. 34:15Only on this condition will we consent unto you: if ye will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised; 34:16then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people. 34:17But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.

34:18And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son. 34:19And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was honored above all the house of his father. 34:20And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying, 34:21These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for, behold, the land is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters. 34:22Only on this condition will the men consent unto us to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised. 34:23Shall not their cattle and their substance and all their beasts be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us. 34:24And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city. 34:25And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city unawares, and slew all the males. 34:26And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went forth. 34:27The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister. 34:28They took their flocks and their herds and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field; 34:29and all their wealth, and all their little ones and their wives, took they captive and made a prey, even all that was in the house. 34:30And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and, I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and smite me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house. 34:31And they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a harlot?

Mark

5:1And they came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes. 5:2And when he was come out of the boat, straightway there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, 5:3who had his dwelling in the tombs: and no man could any more bind him, no, not with a chain; 5:4because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been rent asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: and no man had strength to tame him. 5:5And always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones. 5:6And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him; 5:7and crying out with a loud voice, he saith, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not. 5:8For he said unto him, Come forth, thou unclean spirit, out of the man. 5:9And he asked him, What is thy name? And he saith unto him, My name is Legion; for we are many. 5:10And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. 5:11Now there was there on the mountain side a great herd of swine feeding. 5:12And they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. 5:13And he gave them leave. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered into the swine: and the herd rushed down the steep into the sea, in number about two thousand; and they were drowned in the sea. 5:14And they that fed them fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they came to see what it was that had come to pass. 5:15And they come to Jesus, and behold him that was possessed with demons sitting, clothed and in his right mind, even him that had the legion: and they were afraid. 5:16And they that saw it declared unto them how it befell him that was possessed with demons, and concerning the swine. 5:17And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders. 5:18And as he was entering into the boat, he that had been possessed with demons besought him that he might be with him. 5:19And he suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go to thy house unto thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and how he had mercy on thee. 5:20And he went his way, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men marvelled. 5:21And when Jesus had crossed over again in the boat unto the other side, a great multitude was gathered unto him; and he was by the sea. 5:22And there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and seeing him, he falleth at his feet, 5:23and beseecheth him much, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death: I pray thee, that thou come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be made whole, and live. 5:24And he went with him; and a great multitude followed him, and they thronged him. 5:25And a woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years, 5:26and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, 5:27having heard the things concerning Jesus, came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment. 5:28For she said, If I touch but his garments, I shall be made whole. 5:29And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague. 5:30And straightway Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power proceeding from him had gone forth, turned him about in the crowd, and said, Who touched my garments? 5:31And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? 5:32And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. 5:33But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. 5:34And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. 5:35While he yet spake, they come from the ruler of the synagogue's house saying, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Teacher any further? 5:36But Jesus, not heeding the word spoken, saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe. 5:37And he suffered no man to follow with him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. 5:38And they come to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he beholdeth a tumult, and many weeping and wailing greatly. 5:39And when he was entered in, he saith unto them, Why make ye a tumult, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleepeth. 5:40And they laughed him to scorn. But he, having put them all forth, taketh the father of the child and her mother and them that were with him, and goeth in where the child was. 5:41And taking the child by the hand, he saith unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, Arise. 5:42And straightway the damsel rose up, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were amazed straightway with a great amazement. 5:43And he charged them much that no man should know this: and he commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Job

1:1There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil. 1:2And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. 1:3His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east. 1:4And his sons went and held a feast in the house of each one upon his day; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. 1:5And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. 1:6Now it came to pass on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, that Satan also came among them. 1:7And Jehovah said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 1:8And Jehovah said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job? for there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and turneth away from evil. 1:9Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? 1:10Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. 1:11But put forth thy hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will renounce thee to thy face. 1:12And Jehovah said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah. 1:13And it fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house, 1:14that there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them; 1:15and the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away: yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 1:16While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 1:17While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have taken them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 1:18While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house; 1:19and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. 1:20Then Job arose, and rent his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped; 1:21and he said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah. 1:22In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

Romans

5:1Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; 5:2through whom also we have had our access by faith into this grace wherein we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 5:3And not only so, but we also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh stedfastness; 5:4and stedfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope: 5:5and hope putteth not to shame; because the love of God hath been shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit which was given unto us. 5:6For while we were yet weak, in due season Christ died for the ungodly. 5:7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: for peradventure for the good man some one would even dare to die. 5:8But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 5:9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath of God through him. 5:10For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life; 5:11and not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. 5:12Therefore, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all sinned:-- 5:13for until the law sin was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 5:14Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is a figure of him that was to come. 5:15But not as the trespass, so also is the free gift. For if by the trespass of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abound unto the many. 5:16And not as through one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment came of one unto condemnation, but the free gift came of many trespasses unto justification. 5:17For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, even Jesus Christ. 5:18So then as through one trespass the judgment came unto all men to condemnation; even so through one act of righteousness the free gift came unto all men to justification of life. 5:19For as through the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the one shall the many be made righteous. 5:20And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly: 5:21that, as sin reigned in death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
