47:1Then Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen. 47:2And from among his brethren he took five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh. 47:3And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers. 47:4And they said unto Pharaoh, To sojourn in the land are we come; for there is no pasture for thy servants' flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen. 47:5And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee: 47:6the land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and thy brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any able men among them, then make them rulers over my cattle. 47:7And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. 47:8And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How many are the days of the years of thy life? 47:9And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years: few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage. 47:10And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from the presence of Pharaoh. 47:11And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. 47:12And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families.
47:13And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine. 47:14And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house. 47:15And when the money was all spent in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for our money faileth. 47:16And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail. 47:17And they brought their cattle unto Joseph; and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread in exchange for all their cattle for that year. 47:18And when that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide from my lord, how that our money is all spent; and the herds of cattle are my lord's; there is nought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands: 47:19wherefore should we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land be not desolate.
47:20So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine was sore upon them: and the land became Pharaoh's. 47:21And as for the people, he removed them to the cities from one end of the border of Egypt even to the other end thereof. 47:22Only the land of the priests bought he not: for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them; wherefore they sold not their land. 47:23Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land. 47:24And it shall come to pass at the ingatherings, that ye shall give a fifth unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones. 47:25And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants. 47:26And Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth; only the land of the priests alone became not Pharaoh's.
47:27And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen; and they gat them possessions therein, and were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly. 47:28And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred forty and seven years. 47:29And the time drew near that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found favor in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me: bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt; 47:30but when I sleep with my fathers, thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burying-place. And he said, I will do as thou hast said. 47:31And he said, Swear unto me: and he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.
1:1Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to draw up a narrative concerning those matters which have been fulfilled among us, 1:2even as they delivered them unto us, who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, 1:3it seemed good to me also, having traced the course of all things accurately from the first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus; 1:4that thou mightest know the certainty concerning the things wherein thou wast instructed. 1:5There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abijah: and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. 1:6And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 1:7And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years. 1:8Now it came to pass, while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course, 1:9according to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to enter into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. 1:10And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the hour of incense. 1:11And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of altar of incense. 1:12And Zacharias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him. 1:13But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: because thy supplication is heard, and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. 1:14And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth. 1:15For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb. 1:16And many of the children of Israel shall be turn unto the Lord their God. 1:17And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to walk in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared for him. 1:18And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. 1:19And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak unto thee, and to bring thee these good tidings. 1:20And behold, thou shalt be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall come to pass, because thou believedst not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. 1:21And the people were waiting for Zacharias, and they marvelled while he tarried in the temple. 1:22And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: and he continued making signs unto them, and remained dumb. 1:23And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were fulfilled, he departed unto his house. 1:24And after these days Elisabeth his wife conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying, 1:25Thus hath the Lord done unto me in the days wherein he looked upon me, to take away my reproach among men. 1:26Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, 1:27to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. 1:28And he came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee. 1:29But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this might be. 1:30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. 1:31And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 1:32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 1:33and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 1:34And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 1:35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God. 1:36And behold, Elisabeth thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her that was called barren. 1:37For no word from God shall be void of power. 1:38And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
13:1Lo, mine eye hath seen all this,
Mine ear hath heard and understood it.
13:2What ye know, the same do I know also:
I am not inferior unto you.
13:3Surely I would speak to the Almighty,
And I desire to reason with God.
13:4But ye are forgers of lies;
Ye are all physicians of no value.
13:5Oh that ye would altogether hold your peace!
And it would be your wisdom.
13:6Hear now my reasoning,
And hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
13:7Will ye speak unrighteously for God,
And talk deceitfully for him?
13:8Will ye show partiality to him?
Will ye contend for God?
13:9Is it good that he should search you out?
Or as one deceiveth a man, will ye deceive him?
13:10He will surely reprove you
If ye do secretly show partiality.
13:11Shall not his majesty make you afraid,
And his dread fall upon you?
13:12Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes,
Your defences are defences of clay.
13:13Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak;
And let come on me what will.
13:14Wherefore should I take my flesh in my teeth,
And put my life in my hand?
13:15Behold, he will slay me; I have no hope:
Nevertheless I will maintain my ways before him.
13:16This also shall be my salvation,
That a godless man shall not come before him.
13:17Hear diligently my speech,
And let my declaration be in your ears.
13:18Behold now, I have set my cause in order;
I know that I am righteous.
13:19Who is he that will contend with me?
For then would I hold my peace and give up the ghost.
13:20Only do not two things unto me;
Then will I not hide myself from thy face:
13:21Withdraw thy hand far from me;
And let not thy terror make me afraid.
13:22Then call thou, and I will answer;
Or let me speak, and answer thou me.
13:23How many are mine iniquities and sins?
Make me to know my transgression and my sin.
13:24Wherefore hidest thou thy face,
And holdest me for thine enemy?
13:25Wilt thou harass a driven leaf?
And wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?
13:26For thou writest bitter things against me,
And makest me to inherit the iniquities of my youth:
13:27Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks,
And markest all my paths;
Thou settest a bound to the soles of my feet:
13:28Though I am like a rotten thing that consumeth,
Like a garment that is moth-eaten.
1:1Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 1:2unto the church of God which is at Corinth, even them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, their Lord and ours: 1:3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1:4I thank my God always concerning you, for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus; 1:5that in everything ye were enriched in him, in all utterance and all knowledge; 1:6even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 1:7so that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ; 1:8who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye be unreproveable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1:9God is faithful, through whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 1:10Now I beseech you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1:11For it hath been signified unto me concerning you, my brethren, by them that are of the household of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 1:12Now this I mean, that each one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos: and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 1:13Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized into the name of Paul? 1:14I thank God that I baptized none of you, save Crispus and Gaius; 1:15lest any man should say that ye were baptized into my name. 1:16And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other. 1:17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made void. 1:18For the word of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God. 1:19For it is written,
I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
And the discernment of the discerning will I bring to nought.
1:20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 1:21For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God's good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe. 1:22Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom: 1:23but we preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumblingblock, and unto Gentiles foolishness; 1:24but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 1:25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1:26For behold your calling, brethren, that not many wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 1:27but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong; 1:28and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, yea and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are: 1:29that no flesh should glory before God. 1:30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who was made unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption: 1:31that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
