Genesis

48:1And it came to pass after these things, that one said to Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. 48:2And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed. 48:3And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, 48:4and said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a company of peoples, and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession. 48:5And now thy two sons, who were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh, even as Reuben and Simeon, shall be mine. 48:6And thy issue, that thou begettest after them, shall be thine; they shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance. 48:7And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when there was still some distance to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beth-lehem).

48:8And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these? 48:9And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me here. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them. 48:10Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them. 48:11And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath let me see thy seed also. 48:12And Joseph brought them out from between his knees; and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. 48:13And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him. 48:14And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the first-born. 48:15And he blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath fed me all my life long unto this day, 48:16the angel who hath redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. 48:17And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. 48:18And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father; for this is the first-born; put thy right hand upon his head. 48:19And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: howbeit his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. 48:20And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee will Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh. 48:21And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God will be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. 48:22Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.

Luke

1:39And Mary arose in these days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah; 1:40and entered into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth. 1:41And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit; 1:42and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 1:43And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come unto me? 1:44For behold, when the voice of thy salutation came into mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 1:45And blessed is she that believed; for there shall be a fulfilment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord. 1:46And Mary said,

 My soul doth magnify the Lord,

 1:47And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

 1:48For he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaid:

 For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

 1:49For he that is mighty hath done to me great things;

 And holy is his name.

 1:50And his mercy is unto generations and generations

 On them that fear him.

 1:51He hath showed strength with his arm;

 He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their heart.

 1:52He hath put down princes from their thrones,

 And hath exalted them of low degree.

 1:53The hungry he hath filled with good things;

 And the rich he hath sent empty away.

 1:54He hath given help to Israel his servant,

 That he might remember mercy

 1:55(As he spake unto our fathers)

 Toward Abraham and his seed for ever.

1:56And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned unto her house. 1:57Now Elisabeth's time was fulfilled that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. 1:58And her neighbors and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her; and they rejoiced with her. 1:59And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of the father. 1:60And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. 1:61And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. 1:62And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called. 1:63And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. 1:64And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, blessing God. 1:65And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. 1:66And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him. 1:67And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,

 1:68Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

 For he hath visited and wrought redemption for his people,

 1:69And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us

 In the house of his servant David

 1:70(As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets that have been from of old),

 1:71Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

 1:72To show mercy towards, our fathers,

 And to remember his holy covenant;

 1:73The oath which he spake unto Abraham our father,

 1:74To grant unto us that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies

 Should serve him without fear,

 1:75In holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

 1:76Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High:

 For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;

 1:77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people

 In the remission of their sins,

 1:78Because of the tender mercy of our God,

 Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us,

 1:79To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death;

 To guide our feet into the way of peace.

1:80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel.

Job

14:1Man, that is born of a woman,

 Is of few days, and full of trouble.

 14:2He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down:

 He fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

 14:3And dost thou open thine eyes upon such a one,

 And bringest me into judgment with thee?

 14:4Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

 14:5Seeing his days are determined,

 The number of his months is with thee,

 And thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

 14:6Look away from him, that he may rest,

 Till he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day.

 14:7For there is hope of a tree,

 If it be cut down, that it will sprout again,

 And that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

 14:8Though the root thereof wax old in the earth,

 And the stock thereof die in the ground;

 14:9Yet through the scent of water it will bud,

 And put forth boughs like a plant.

 14:10But man dieth, and is laid low:

 Yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

 14:11As the waters fail from the sea,

 And the river wasteth and drieth up;

 14:12So man lieth down and riseth not:

 Till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake,

 Nor be roused out of their sleep.

 14:13Oh that thou wouldest hide me in Sheol,

 That thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past,

 That thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

 14:14If a man die, shall he live again?

 All the days of my warfare would I wait,

 Till my release should come.

 14:15Thou wouldest call, and I would answer thee:

 Thou wouldest have a desire to the work of thy hands.

 14:16But now thou numberest my steps:

 Dost thou not watch over my sin?

 14:17My transgression is sealed up in a bag,

 And thou fastenest up mine iniquity.

 14:18But the mountain falling cometh to nought;

 And the rock is removed out of its place;

 14:19The waters wear the stones;

 The overflowings thereof wash away the dust of the earth:

 So thou destroyest the hope of man.

 14:20Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth;

 Thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

 14:21His sons come to honor, and he knoweth it not;

 And they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.

 14:22But his flesh upon him hath pain,

 And his soul within him mourneth.

1 Corinthians

2:1And I, brethren, when I came unto you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. 2:2For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 2:3And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 2:4And my speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 2:5that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 2:6We speak wisdom, however, among them that are fullgrown: yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, who are coming to nought: 2:7but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, even the wisdom that hath been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds unto our glory: 2:8which none of the rulers of this world hath known: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory: 2:9but as it is written,

 Things which eye saw not, and ear heard not,

 And which entered not into the heart of man,

 Whatsoever things God prepared for them that love him.

2:10But unto us God revealed them through the Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 2:11For who among men knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of the man, which is in him? even so the things of God none knoweth, save the Spirit of God. 2:12But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God. 2:13Which things also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Spirit teacheth; combining spiritual things with spiritual words. 2:14Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged. 2:15But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, and he himself is judged of no man. 2:16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
