Genesis

4:1And the man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah. 4:2And again she bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 4:3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Jehovah. 4:4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Jehovah had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 4:5but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 4:6And Jehovah said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 4:7If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door: and unto thee shall be its desire, but do thou rule over it. 4:8And Cain told Abel his brother. And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

4:9And Jehovah said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: am I my brother's keeper? 4:10And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. 4:11And now cursed art thou from the ground, which hath opened its mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; 4:12when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the earth. 4:13And Cain said unto Jehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear. 4:14Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the ground; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it will come to pass, that whosoever findeth me will slay me. 4:15And Jehovah said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should smite him.

4:16And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 4:17And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. 4:18And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lamech. 4:19And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 4:20And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents and have cattle. 4:21And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and pipe. 4:22And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah. 4:23And Lamech said unto his wives:

 Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;

Ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech:

For I have slain a man for wounding me,

And a young man for bruising me:

4:24If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,

 Truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

4:25And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth. For, said she, God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel; for Cain slew him. 4:26And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh. Then began men to call upon the name of Jehovah.

Matthew

4:1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 4:2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered. 4:3And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. 4:4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 4:5Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple, 4:6and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written,

He shall give his angels charge concerning thee:

and,

On their hands they shall bear thee up,

Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.

4:7Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God. 4:8Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 4:9and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 4:10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 4:11Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

4:12Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee; 4:13and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali: 4:14that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,

4:15The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,

Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan,

 Galilee of the Gentiles,

4:16The people that sat in darkness

 Saw a great light,

And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death,

To them did light spring up.

4:17From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

4:18And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers. 4:19And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. 4:20And they straightway left the nets, and followed him. 4:21And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 4:22And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him.

4:23And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people. 4:24And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them. 4:25And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and from beyond the Jordan.

Ezra

4:1Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple unto Jehovah, the God of Israel; 4:2then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' houses, and said unto them, Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as ye do; and we sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up hither. 4:3But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us in building a house unto our God; but we ourselves together will build unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia hath commanded us. 4:4Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building, 4:5and hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. 4:6And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem. 4:7And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, unto Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian character, and set forth in the Syrian tongue. 4:8Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort: 4:9then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites, 4:10and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River, and so forth. 4:11This is the copy of the letter that they sent unto Artaxerxes the king: Thy servants the men beyond the River, and so forth. 4:12Be it known unto the king, that the Jews that came up from thee are come to us unto Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and repaired the foundations. 4:13Be it known now unto the king, that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful unto the kings. 4:14Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not meet for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and certified the king; 4:15that search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste. 4:16We certify the king that, if this city be builded, and the walls finished, by this means thou shalt have no portion beyond the River. 4:17Then sent the king an answer unto Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River: Peace, and so forth. 4:18The letter which ye sent unto us hath been plainly read before me. 4:19And I decreed, and search hath been made, and it is found that this city of old time hath made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein. 4:20There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid unto them. 4:21Make ye now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not builded, until a decree shall be made by me. 4:22And take heed that ye be not slack herein: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings? 4:23Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power. 4:24Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

Acts

4:1And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, 4:2being sore troubled because they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 4:3And they laid hands on them, and put them in ward unto the morrow: for it was now eventide. 4:4But many of them that heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about five thousand. 4:5And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers and elders and scribes were gathered together in Jerusalem; 4:6and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest. 4:7And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, By what power, or in what name, have ye done this? 4:8Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders, 4:9if we this day are examined concerning a good deed done to an impotent man, by what means this man is made whole; 4:10be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole. 4:11He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was made the head of the corner. 4:12And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved. 4:13Now when they beheld the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. 4:14And seeing the man that was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. 4:15But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 4:16saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been wrought through them, is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. 4:17But that it spread no further among the people, let us threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. 4:18And they called them, and charged them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 4:19But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken unto you rather than unto God, judge ye: 4:20for we cannot but speak the things which we saw and heard. 4:21And they, when they had further threatened them, let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people; for all men glorified God for that which was done. 4:22For the man was more than forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was wrought. 4:23And being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said unto them. 4:24And they, when they heard it, lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thou that didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all that in them is: 4:25who by the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of our father David thy servant, didst say,

 Why did the Gentiles rage,

And the peoples imagine vain things?

4:26The kings of the earth set themselves in array,

And the rulers were gathered together,

Against the Lord, and against his Anointed:

4:27for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together, 4:28to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass. 4:29And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness, 4:30while thy stretchest forth thy hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of thy holy Servant Jesus. 4:31And when they had prayed, the place was shaken wherein they were gathered together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spake the word of God with boldness. 4:32And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and soul: and not one of them said that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. 4:33And with great power gave the apostles their witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. 4:34For neither was there among them any that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, 4:35and laid them at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto each, according as any one had need. 4:36And Joseph, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, Son of exhortation), a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race, 4:37having a field, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.
