11:1And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech. 11:2And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 11:3And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 11:4And they said, Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 11:5And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 11:6And Jehovah said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do: and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do. 11:7Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 11:8So Jehovah scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off building the city. 11:9Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because Jehovah did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did Jehovah scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
11:10These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begat Arpachshad two years after the flood. 11:11and Shem lived after he begat Arpachshad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:12And Arpachshad lived five and thirty years, and begat Shelah. 11:13and Arpachshad lived after he begat Shelah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:14And Shelah lived thirty years, and begat Eber: 11:15and Shelah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:16And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg: 11:17and Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:18And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu: 11:19and Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:20And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug: 11:21and Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:22And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor: 11:23and Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:24And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah: 11:25and Nahor lived after he begat Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
11:26And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
11:27Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran begat Lot. 11:28And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. 11:29And Abram and Nahor took them wives: The name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. 11:30And Sarai was barren; She had no child. 11:31And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. 11:32And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
10:1And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.
10:2Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 10:3Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 10:4Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
10:5These twelve Jesus sent forth, and charged them, saying, Go not into any way of the Gentiles, and enter not into any city of the Samaritans: 10:6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 10:7And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 10:8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely ye received, freely give. 10:9Get you no gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses; 10:10no wallet for your journey, neither two coats, nor shoes, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food. 10:11And into whatsoever city or village ye shall enter, search out who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go forth. 10:12And as ye enter into the house, salute it. 10:13And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 10:14And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet. 10:15Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.
10:16Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 10:17But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in theirs synagogues they will scourge you; 10:18yea and before governors and kings shall ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 10:19But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak. 10:20For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you. 10:21And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child: and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. 10:22And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. 10:23But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
10:24A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord. 10:25It is enough for the disciple that he be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more them of his household! 10:26Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 10:27What I tell you in the darkness, speak ye in the light; and what ye hear in the ear, proclaim upon the house-tops. 10:28And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 10:29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father: 10:30but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 10:31Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. 10:32Every one therefore who shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven. 10:33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
10:34Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 10:35For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law: 10:36and a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 10:37He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 10:38And he that doth not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me. 10:39He that findeth his life shall lose it; and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
10:40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. 10:41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward: and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. 10:42And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you he shall in no wise lose his reward.
10:1Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there was gathered together unto him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very sore. 10:2And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land: yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing. 10:3Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law. 10:4Arise; for the matter belongeth unto thee, and we are with thee: be of good courage, and do it. 10:5Then arose Ezra, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they sware. 10:6Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water; for he mourned because of the trespass of them of the captivity. 10:7And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem; 10:8and that whosoever came not within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the assembly of the captivity. 10:9Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month: and all the people sat in the broad place before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain. 10:10And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have trespassed, and have married foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel. 10:11Now therefore make confession unto Jehovah, the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women. 10:12Then all the assembly answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said concerning us, so must we do. 10:13But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without: neither is this a work of one day or two; for we have greatly transgressed in this matter. 10:14Let now our princes be appointed for all the assembly, and let all them that are in our cities that have married foreign women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned from us, until this matter be despatched. 10:15Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them. 10:16And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain heads of fathers' houses, after their fathers' houses, and all of them by their names, were set apart; and they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter. 10:17And they made an end with all the men that had married foreign women by the first day of the first month. 10:18And among the sons of the priests there were found that had married foreign women: namely, of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah. 10:19And they gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their guilt. 10:20And of the sons of Immer: Hanani and Zebadiah. 10:21And of the sons of Harim: Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah. 10:22And of the sons of Pashhur: Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah. 10:23And of the Levites: Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (the same is Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer. 10:24And of the singers: Eliashib. And of the porters: Shallum, and Telem, and Uri. 10:25And of Israel: Of the sons of Parosh: Ramiah, and Izziah, and Malchijah, and Mijamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah. 10:26And of the sons of Elam: Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah. 10:27And of the sons of Zattu: Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza. 10:28And of the sons of Bebai: Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai. 10:29And of the sons of Bani: Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, Jeremoth. 10:30And of the sons of Pahath-moab: Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Manasseh. 10:31And of the sons of Harim: Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon, 10:32Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah. 10:33Of the sons of Hashum: Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei. 10:34Of the sons of Bani: Maadai, Amram, and Uel, 10:35Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi, 10:36Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib, 10:37Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu, 10:38and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei, 10:39and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah, 10:40Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai, 10:41Azarel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah, 10:42Shallum, Amariah, Joseph. 10:43Of the sons of Nebo: Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Iddo, and Joel, Benaiah. 10:44All these had taken foreign wives; and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
10:1Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 10:2a devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, who gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God always. 10:3He saw in a vision openly, as it were about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him, and saying to him, Cornelius. 10:4And he, fastening his eyes upon him, and being affrighted, said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are gone up for a memorial before God. 10:5And now send men to Joppa, and fetch one Simon, who is surnamed Peter: 10:6he lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side. 10:7And when the angel that spake unto him was departed, he called two of his household-servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually; 10:8and having rehearsed all things unto them, he sent them to Joppa. 10:9Now on the morrow, as they were on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour: 10:10and he became hungry, and desired to eat: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance; 10:11and he beholdeth the heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet, let down by four corners upon the earth: 10:12wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts and creeping things of the earth and birds of the heaven. 10:13And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. 10:14But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common and unclean. 10:15And a voice came unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common. 10:16And this was done thrice: and straightway the vessel was received up into heaven. 10:17Now while Peter was much perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men that were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon's house, stood before the gate, 10:18and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, were lodging there. 10:19And while Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. 10:20But arise, and get thee down, and go with them, nothing doubting: for I have sent them. 10:21And Peter went down to the men, and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come? 10:22And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned of God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee. 10:23So he called them in and lodged them. And on the morrow he arose and went forth with them, and certain of the brethren from Joppa accompanied him. 10:24And on the morrow they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his kinsmen and his near friends. 10:25And when it came to pass that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. 10:26But Peter raised him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. 10:27And as he talked with him, he went in, and findeth many come together: 10:28and he said unto them, Ye yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to join himself or come unto one of another nation; and yet unto me hath God showed that I should not call any man common or unclean: 10:29wherefore also I came without gainsaying, when I was sent for. I ask therefore with what intent ye sent for me. 10:30And Cornelius said, Four days ago, until this hour, I was keeping the ninth hour of prayer in my house; and behold, a man stood before me in bright apparel, 10:31and saith, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. 10:32Send therefore to Joppa, and call unto thee Simon, who is surnamed Peter; he lodgeth in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea side. 10:33Forthwith therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to hear all things that have been commanded thee of the Lord. 10:34And Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 10:35but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is acceptable to him. 10:36The word which he sent unto the children of Israel, preaching good tidings of peace by Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all.) -- 10:37that saying ye yourselves know, which was published throughout all Judaea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 10:38even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 10:39And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree. 10:40Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest, 10:41not to all the people, but unto witnesses that were chosen before of God, even to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 10:42And he charged us to preach unto the people, and to testify that this is he who is ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and the dead. 10:43To him bear all the prophets witness, that through his name every one that believeth on him shall receive remission of sins. 10:44While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them that heard the word. 10:45And they of the circumcision that believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit. 10:46For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 10:47Can any man forbid the water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we? 10:48And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
