12:1Now Jehovah said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto the land that I will show thee: 12:2and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make they name great; and be thou a blessing; 12:3and I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 12:4So Abram went, as Jehovah had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. 12:5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. 12:6And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Shechem, unto the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land. 12:7And Jehovah appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto Jehovah, who appeared unto him. 12:8And he removed from thence unto the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto Jehovah, and called upon the name of Jehovah. 12:9And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.
12:10And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was sore in the land. 12:11And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon: 12:12and it will come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they will say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive. 12:13Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister; that it may be well with me for thy sake, and that my soul may live because of thee. 12:14And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair. 12:15And the princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. 12:16And he dealt well with Abram for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he-asses, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and she-asses, and camels. 12:17And Jehovah plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife. 12:18And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? 12:19why saidst thou, She is my sister, so that I took her to be my wife? now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way. 12:20And Pharaoh gave men charge concerning him: and they brought him on the way, and his wife, and all that he had.
11:1And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities. 11:2Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his disciples 11:3and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another? 11:4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye hear and see: 11:5the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good tidings preached to them. 11:6And blessed is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.
11:7And as these went their way, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind? 11:8But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that wear soft raiment are in king's houses. 11:9But wherefore went ye out? to see a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. 11:10This is he, of whom it is written,
Behold, I send my messenger before thy face,
Who shall prepare thy way before thee.
11:11Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not arisen a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 11:12And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and men of violence take it by force. 11:13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 11:14And if ye are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, that is to come. 11:15He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 11:16But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the marketplaces, who call unto their fellows 11:17and say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not mourn. 11:18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon. 11:19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! And wisdom is justified by her works.
11:20Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not. 11:21Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 11:22But I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 11:23And thou, Capernaum, shalt thou be exalted unto heaven? thou shalt go down unto Hades: for if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in thee, it would have remained until this day. 11:24But I say unto you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
11:25At that season Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou didst hide these things from the wise and understanding, and didst reveal them unto babes: 11:26yea, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in thy sight. 11:27All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth the Son, save the Father; neither doth any know the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal him. 11:28Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 11:29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 11:30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
1:1The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it came to pass in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, 1:2that Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, that were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. 1:3And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. 1:4And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven, 1:5and said, I beseech thee, O Jehovah, the God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and lovingkindness with them that love him and keep his commandments: 1:6Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee. Yea, I and my father's house have sinned: 1:7we have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses. 1:8Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples: 1:9but if ye return unto me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there. 1:10Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand. 1:11O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who delight to fear thy name; and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Now I was cupbearer to the king.
11:1Now the apostles and the brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 11:2And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, 11:3saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. 11:4But Peter began, and expounded the matter unto them in order, saying, 11:5I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even unto me: 11:6upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven. 11:7And I heard also a voice saying unto me, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. 11:8But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth. 11:9But a voice answered the second time out of heaven, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common. 11:10And this was done thrice: and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11:11And behold, forthwith three men stood before the house in which we were, having been sent from Caesarea unto me. 11:12And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no distinction. And these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the man's house: 11:13and he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, Send to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is Peter; 11:14who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house. 11:15And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. 11:16And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit. 11:17If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God? 11:18And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life. 11:19They therefore that were scattered abroad upon the tribulation that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none save only to Jews. 11:20But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. 11:21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number that believed turned unto the Lord. 11:22And the report concerning them came to the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas as far as Antioch: 11:23who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord: 11:24for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. 11:25And he went forth to Tarsus to seek for Saul; 11:26and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people, and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. 11:27Now in these days there came down prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 11:28And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be a great famine over all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius. 11:29And the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren that dwelt in Judea: 11:30which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
