Genesis

18:1And Jehovah appeared unto him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; 18:2and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood over against him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth, 18:3and said, My lord, if now I have found favor in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant: 18:4let now a little water be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree: 18:5and I will fetch a morsel of bread, and strengthen ye your heart; after that ye shall pass on: forasmuch as ye are come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said. 18:6And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes. 18:7And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto the servant; and he hasted to dress it. 18:8And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

18:9And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 18:10And he said, I will certainly return unto thee when the season cometh round; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him. 18:11Now Abraham and Sarah were old, and well stricken in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 18:12And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? 18:13And Jehovah said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, who am old? 18:14Is anything too hard for Jehovah? At the set time I will return unto thee, when the season cometh round, and Sarah shall have a son. 18:15Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

18:16And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. 18:17And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham that which I do; 18:18seeing that Abraham had surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 18:19For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. 18:20And Jehovah said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; 18:21I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

18:22And the men turned from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before Jehovah. 18:23And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou consume the righteous with the wicked? 18:24Peradventure there are fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? 18:25That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked; that be far from thee: shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? 18:26And Jehovah said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake. 18:27And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes: 18:28peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I find there forty and five. 18:29And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty's sake. 18:30And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. 18:31And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake. 18:32And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for the ten's sake. 18:33And Jehovah went his way, as soon as he had left off communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

Matthew

17:1And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart: 17:2and he was transfigured before them; and his face did shine as the sun, and his garments became white as the light. 17:3And behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elijah talking with him. 17:4And Peter answered, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, I will make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. 17:5While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 17:6And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 17:7And Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 17:8And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, save Jesus only.

17:9And as they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen from the dead. 17:10And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elijah must first come? 17:11And he answered and said, Elijah indeed cometh, and shall restore all things: 17:12but I say into you, that Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but did unto him whatsoever they would. Even so shall the Son of man also suffer of them. 17:13Then understood the disciples that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

17:14And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a man, kneeling to him, saying, 17:15Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is epileptic, and suffereth grievously; for oft-times he falleth into the fire, and off-times into the water. 17:16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17:17And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I bear with you? bring him hither to me. 17:18And Jesus rebuked him; and the demon went out of him: and the boy was cured from that hour.

17:19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast it out? 17:20And he saith unto them, Because of your little faith: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 17:21But this kind goeth not out save by prayer and fasting.

17:22And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men; 17:23and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised up. And they were exceeding sorry.

17:24And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received the half-shekel came to Peter, and said, Doth not your teacher pay the half-shekel? 17:25He saith, Yea. And when he came into the house, Jesus spake first to him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? the kings of the earth, from whom do they receive toll or tribute? from their sons, or from strangers? 17:26And when he said, From strangers, Jesus said unto him, Therefore the sons are free. 17:27But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

Nehemiah

7:1Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed, 7:2that I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the governor of the castle, charge over Jerusalem; for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many. 7:3And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand on guard, let them shut the doors, and bar ye them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house. 7:4Now the city was wide and large; but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded. 7:5And my God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found the book of the genealogy of them that came up at the first, and I found written therein: 7:6These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and that returned unto Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city; 7:7who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel: 7:8The children of Parosh, two thousand a hundred and seventy and two. 7:9The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two. 7:10The children of Arah, six hundred fifty and two. 7:11The children of Pahath-moab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand and eight hundred and eighteen. 7:12The children of Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four. 7:13The children of Zattu, eight hundred forty and five. 7:14The children of Zaccai, seven hundred and threescore. 7:15The children of Binnui, six hundred forty and eight. 7:16The children of Bebai, six hundred twenty and eight. 7:17The children of Azgad, two thousand three hundred twenty and two. 7:18The children of Adonikam, six hundred threescore and seven. 7:19The children of Bigvai, two thousand threescore and seven. 7:20The children of Adin, six hundred fifty and five. 7:21The children of Ater, of Hezekiah, ninety and eight. 7:22The children of Hashum, three hundred twenty and eight. 7:23The children of Bezai, three hundred twenty and four. 7:24The children of Hariph, a hundred and twelve. 7:25The children of Gibeon, ninety and five. 7:26The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, a hundred fourscore and eight. 7:27The men of Anathoth, a hundred twenty and eight. 7:28The men of Beth-azmaveth, forty and two. 7:29The men of Kiriath-jearim, Chephirah, and Beeroth, seven hundred forty and three. 7:30The men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred twenty and one. 7:31The men of Michmas, a hundred and twenty and two. 7:32The men of Beth-el and Ai, a hundred twenty and three. 7:33The men of the other Nebo, fifty and two. 7:34The children of the other Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four. 7:35The children of Harim, three hundred and twenty. 7:36The children of Jericho, three hundred forty and five. 7:37The children of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred twenty and one. 7:38The children of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty. 7:39The priests: The children of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy and three. 7:40The children of Immer, a thousand fifty and two. 7:41The children of Pashhur, a thousand two hundred forty and seven. 7:42The children of Harim, a thousand and seventeen. 7:43The Levites: the children of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, of the children of Hodevah, seventy and four. 7:44The singers: the children of Asaph, a hundred forty and eight. 7:45The porters: the children of Shallum, the children of Ater, the children of Talmon, the children of Akkub, the children of Hatita, the children of Shobai, a hundred thirty and eight. 7:46The Nethinim: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth, 7:47the children of Keros, the children of Sia, the children of Padon, 7:48the children of Lebana, the children of Hagaba, the children of Salmai, 7:49the children of Hanan, the children of Giddel, the children of Gahar, 7:50the children of Reaiah, the children of Rezin, the children of Nekoda, 7:51the children of Gazzam, the children of Uzza, the children of Paseah. 7:52The children of Besai, the children of Meunim, the children of Nephushesim, 7:53the children of Bakbuk, the children of Hakupha, the children of Harhur, 7:54the children of Bazlith, the children of Mehida, the children of Harsha, 7:55the children of Barkos, the children of Sisera, the children of Temah, 7:56the children of Neziah, the children of Hatipha. 7:57The children of Solomon's servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida, 7:58the children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel, 7:59the children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the children of Amon. 7:60All the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety and two. 7:61And these were they that went up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their fathers' houses, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel: 7:62The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two. 7:63And of the priests: the children of Hobaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name. 7:64These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they deemed polluted and put from the priesthood. 7:65And the governor said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim. 7:66The whole assembly together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore, 7:67besides their men-servants and their maid-servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women. 7:68Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five; 7:69their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty. 7:70And some from among the heads of fathers' houses gave unto the work. The governor gave to the treasury a thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, five hundred and thirty priests' garments. 7:71And some of the heads of fathers' houses gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pounds of silver. 7:72And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand pounds of silver, and threescore and seven priests' garments. 7:73So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities. And when the seventh month was come, the children of Israel were in their cities.

Acts

17:1Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: 17:2and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 17:3opening and alleging that it behooved the Christ to suffer, and to rise again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom, said he, I proclaim unto you, is the Christ. 17:4And some of them were persuaded, and consorted with Paul and Silas, and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. 17:5But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took unto them certain vile fellows of the rabble, and gathering a crowd, set the city on an uproar; and assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them forth to the people. 17:6And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; 17:7whom Jason hath received: and these all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. 17:8And they troubled the multitude and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. 17:9And when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go. 17:10And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Beroea: who when they were come thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 17:11Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily, whether these things were so. 17:12Many of them therefore believed; also of the Greek women of honorable estate, and of men, not a few. 17:13But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was proclaimed of Paul at Beroea also, they came thither likewise, stirring up and troubling the multitudes. 17:14And then immediately the brethren sent forth Paul to go as far as to the sea: and Silas and Timothy abode there still. 17:15But they that conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timothy that they should come to him with all speed, they departed. 17:16Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he beheld the city full of idols. 17:17So he reasoned in the synagogue with Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with them that met him. 17:18And certain also of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What would this babbler say? others, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached Jesus and the resurrection. 17:19And they took hold of him, and brought him unto the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by thee? 17:20For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. 17:21(Now all the Athenians and the strangers sojourning there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell or to hear some new thing.) 17:22And Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, Ye men of Athens, in all things, I perceive that ye are very religious. 17:23For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. What therefore ye worship in ignorance, this I set forth unto you. 17:24The God that made the world and all things therein, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 17:25neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 17:26and he made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation; 17:27that they should seek God, if haply they might feel after him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us: 17:28for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 17:29Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and device of man. 17:30The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent: 17:31inasmuch as he hath appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. 17:32Now when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked; but others said, We will hear thee concerning this yet again. 17:33Thus Paul went out from among them. 17:34But certain men clave unto him, and believed: among whom also was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
