27:1And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his elder son, and said unto him, My son. And he said unto him, Here am I. 27:2And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death. 27:3Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison. 27:4And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat. That my soul may bless thee before I die.
27:5And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it. 27:6And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying, 27:7Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless thee before Jehovah before my death. 27:8Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee. 27:9Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats. And I will make them savory food for thy father, such as he loveth. 27:10And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, so that he may bless thee before his death. 27:11And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. 27:12My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver. And I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing. 27:13And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son. Only obey my voice, and go fetch me them. 27:14And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother. And his mother made savory food, such as his father loved. 27:15And Rebekah took the goodly garments of Esau her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son. 27:16And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck. 27:17And she gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
27:18And he came unto his father, and said, My father. And he said, Here am I. Who art thou, my son? 27:19And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy first-born; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me. 27:20And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because Jehovah thy God sent me good speed. 27:21And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not. 27:22And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father. And he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau. 27:23And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands. So he blessed him. 27:24And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am. 27:25And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat. And he brought him wine, and he drank. 27:26And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son. 27:27And he came near, and kissed him. And he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said,
See, the smell of my son
Is as the smell of a field which Jehovah hath blessed.
27:28And God give thee of the dew of heaven,
And of the fatness of the earth,
And plenty of grain and new wine.
27:29Let peoples serve thee,
And nations bow down to thee.
Be lord over thy brethren,
And let thy mother's sons bow down to thee.
Cursed be every one that curseth thee,
And blessed be every one that blesseth thee.
27:30And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting. 27:31And he also made savory food, and brought it unto his father. And he said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me. 27:32And Isaac his father said unto him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy son, thy first-born, Esau. 27:33And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who then is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? Yea, and he shall be blessed. 27:34When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceeding great and bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father. 27:35And he said, Thy brother came with guile, and hath taken away thy blessing. 27:36And he said, Is not he rightly name Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two time. He took away my birthright. And, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me? 27:37And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants. And with grain and new wine have I sustained him. And what then shall I do for thee, my son? 27:38And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept. 27:39And Isaac his father answered and said unto him,
Behold, of the fatness of the earth shall be thy dwelling,
And of the dew of heaven from above.
27:40And by thy sword shalt thou live, and thou shalt serve thy brother.
And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt break loose,
That thou shalt shake his yoke from off thy neck.
27:41And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then will I slay my brother Jacob. 27:42And the words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah. And she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee. 27:43Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. And arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran. 27:44And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother's fury turn away. 27:45Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him. Then I will send, and fetch thee from thence. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?
27:46And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
26:1And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples, 26:2Ye know that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified. 26:3Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas; 26:4and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him. 26:5But they said, Not during the feast, lest a tumult arise among people.
26:6Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 26:7there came unto him a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he sat at meat. 26:8But when the disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 26:9For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 26:10But Jesus perceiving it said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 26:11For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 26:12For in that she poured this ointment upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 26:13Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which this woman hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
26:14Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 26:15and said, What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they weighed unto him thirty pieces of silver. 26:16And from that time he sought opportunity to deliver him unto them.
26:17Now on the first day of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where wilt thou that we make ready for thee to eat the passover? 26:18And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Teacher saith, My time is at hand; I keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 26:19And the disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
26:20Now when even was come, he was sitting at meat with the twelve disciples; 26:21and as they were eating, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 26:22And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began to say unto him every one, Is it I, Lord? 26:23And he answered and said, He that dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 26:24The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born. 26:25And Judas, who betrayed him, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi? He saith unto him, Thou hast said.
26:26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it; and he gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 26:27And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 26:28for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins. 26:29But I say unto you, I shall not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
26:30And when they had sung a hymn, they went out unto the mount of Olives.
26:31Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended in me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 26:32But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee. 26:33But Peter answered and said unto him, If all shall be offended in thee, I will never be offended. 26:34Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, that this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 26:35Peter saith unto him, Even if I must die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
26:36Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I go yonder and pray. 26:37And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and sore troubled. 26:38Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: abide ye here, and watch with me. 26:39And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. 26:40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 26:41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 26:42Again a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, thy will be done. 26:43And he came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 26:44And he left them again, and went away, and prayed a third time, saying again the same words. 26:45Then cometh he to the disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 26:46Arise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that betrayeth me.
26:47And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priest and elders of the people. 26:48Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he: take him. 26:49And straightway he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Rabbi; and kissed him. 26:50And Jesus said unto him, Friend, do that for which thou art come. Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 26:51And behold, one of them that were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear. 26:52Then saith Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 26:53Or thinkest thou that I cannot beseech my Father, and he shall even now send me more than twelve legions of angels? 26:54How then should the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be? 26:55In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and staves to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and ye took me not. 26:56But all this is come to pass, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.
26:57And they that had taken Jesus led him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. 26:58But Peter followed him afar off, unto the court of the high priest, and entered in, and sat with the officers, to see the end. 26:59Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death; 26:60and they found it not, though many false witnesses came. But afterward came two, 26:61and said, This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. 26:62And the high priest stood up, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 26:63But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God. 26:64Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. 26:65Then the high priest rent his garments, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy: what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard the blasphemy: 26:66what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death. 26:67Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands, 26:68saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?
26:69Now Peter was sitting without in the court: and a maid came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilaean. 26:70But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 26:71And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and saith unto them that were there, This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth. 26:72And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man. 26:73And after a little while they that stood by came and said to Peter, Of a truth thou also art one of them; for thy speech maketh thee known. 26:74Then began he to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And straightway the cock crew. 26:75And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
3:1After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him. 3:2And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed down, and did reverence to Haman; for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not down, nor did him reverence. 3:3Then the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king's commandment? 3:4Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew. 3:5And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not down, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath. 3:6But he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had made known to him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai. 3:7In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. 3:8And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from those of every people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them. 3:9If it please the king, let it be written that they be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those that have the charge of the king's business, to bring it into the king's treasuries. 3:10And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy. 3:11And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee. 3:12Then were the king's scribes called in the first month, on the thirteenth day thereof; and there was written according to all that Haman commanded unto the king's satraps, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and it was sealed with the king's ring. 3:13And letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey. 3:14A copy of the writing, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published unto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day. 3:15The posts went forth in haste by the king's commandment, and the decree was given out in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.
26:1And Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth his hand, and made his defence: 26:2I think myself happy, king Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before thee this day touching all the things whereof I am accused by the Jews: 26:3especially because thou art expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently. 26:4My manner of life then from my youth up, which was from the beginning among mine own nation and at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; 26:5having knowledge of me from the first, if they be willing to testify, that after the straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. 26:6And now I stand here to be judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers; 26:7unto which promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God night and day, hope to attain. And concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, O king! 26:8Why is it judged incredible with you, if God doth raise the dead? 26:9I verily thought with myself that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 26:10And this I also did in Jerusalem: and I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them. 26:11And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities. 26:12Whereupon as I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, 26:13at midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them that journeyed with me. 26:14And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice saying unto me in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the goad. 26:15And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. 26:16But arise, and stand upon thy feet: for to this end have I appeared unto thee, to appoint thee a minister and a witness both of the things wherein thou hast seen me, and of the things wherein I will appear unto thee; 26:17delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom I send thee, 26:18to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me. 26:19Wherefore, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: 26:20but declared both to them of Damascus first and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judaea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance. 26:21For this cause the Jews seized me in the temple, and assayed to kill me. 26:22Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand unto this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses did say should come; 26:23how that the Christ must suffer, and how that he first by the resurrection of the dead should proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles. 26:24And as he thus made his defense, Festus saith with a loud voice, Paul, thou art mad; thy much learning is turning thee mad. 26:25But Paul saith, I am not mad, most excellent Festus; but speak forth words of truth and soberness. 26:26For the king knoweth of these things, unto whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things is hidden from him; for this hath not been done in a corner. 26:27King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest. 26:28And Agrippa said unto Paul, With but little persuasion thou wouldest fain make me a Christian. 26:29And Paul said, I would to God, that whether with little or with much, not thou only, but also all that hear me this day, might become such as I am, except these bonds. 26:30And the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them: 26:31and when they had withdrawn, they spake one to another, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds. 26:32And Agrippa said unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.
