29:1Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east. 29:2And he looked, and behold, a well in the field, and, lo, three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. And the stone upon the well's mouth was great. 29:3And thither were all the flocks gathered. And they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in its place. 29:4And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence are ye? And they said, Of Haran are we. 29:5And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him. 29:6And he said unto them, Is it well with him? And they said, It is well. And, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep. 29:7And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together. Water ye the sheep, and go and feed them. 29:8And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well's mouth. Then we water the sheep. 29:9While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep. For she kept them. 29:10And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother. 29:11And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept. 29:12And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son. And she ran and told her father.
29:13And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things. 29:14And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month. 29:15And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? Tell me, what shall thy wages be? 29:16And Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 29:17And Leah's eyes were tender. But Rachel was beautiful and well favored. 29:18And Jacob loved Rachel. And he said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter. 29:19And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man. Abide with me. 29:20And Jacob served seven years for Rachel. And they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
29:21And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her. 29:22And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. 29:23And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him. And he went in unto her. 29:24And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid unto his daughter Leah for a handmaid. 29:25And it came to pass in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? Did not I serve with thee for Rachel? Wherefore then hast thou beguiled me? 29:26And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the first-born. 29:27Fulfil the week of this one, and we will give thee the other also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years. 29:28And jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. And he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife. 29:29And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid. 29:30And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
29:31And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb. But Rachel was barren. 29:32And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben. For she said, Because Jehovah hath looked upon my affliction. For now my husband will love me. 29:33And she conceived again, and bare a son: and said, Because Jehovah hath heard that I am hated, he hath therefore given me this son also. And she called his name Simeon. 29:34And she conceived again, and bare a son. And said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons. Therefore was his name called Levi. 29:35And she conceived again, and bare a son. And she said, This time will I praise Jehovah. Therefore she called his name Judah. And she left off bearing.
28:1Now late on the sabbath day, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 28:2And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled away the stone, and sat upon it. 28:3His appearance was as lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 28:4and for fear of him the watchers did quake, and became as dead men. 28:5And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Jesus, who hath been crucified. 28:6He is not here; for he is risen, even as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 28:7And go quickly, and tell his disciples, He is risen from the dead; and lo, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. 28:8And they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring his disciples word. 28:9And behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. 28:10Then saith Jesus unto them, Fear not: go tell my brethren that they depart into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
28:11Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city, and told unto the chief priests all the things that were come to pass. 28:12And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave much money unto the soldiers, 28:13saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 28:14And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and rid you of care. 28:15So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying was spread abroad among the Jews, and continueth until this day.
28:16But the eleven disciples went into Galilee, unto the mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 28:17And when they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. 28:18And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. 28:19Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: 28:20teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
5:1Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the entrance of the house. 5:2And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. 5:3Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be given thee even to the half of the kingdom. 5:4And Esther said, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him. 5:5Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that it may be done as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared. 5:6And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. 5:7Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is: 5:8if I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to-morrow as the king hath said. 5:9Then went Haman forth that day joyful and glad of heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up nor moved for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai. 5:10Nevertheless Haman refrained himself, and went home; and he sent and fetched his friends and Zeresh his wife. 5:11And Haman recounted unto them the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king. 5:12Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to-morrow also am I invited by her together with the king. 5:13Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate. 5:14Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.
28:1And when we were escaped, then we knew that the island was called Melita. 28:2And the barbarians showed us no common kindness; for they kindled a fire, and received us all, because of the present rain, and because of the cold. 28:3But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out by reason of the heat, and fastened on his hand. 28:4And when the barbarians saw the venomous creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped from the sea, yet Justice hath not suffered to live. 28:5Howbeit he shook off the creature into the fire, and took no harm. 28:6But they expected that he would have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but when they were long in expectation and beheld nothing amiss came to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. 28:7Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us, and entertained us three days courteously. 28:8And it was so, that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery: unto whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laying his hands on him healed him. 28:9And when this was done, the rest also that had diseases in the island came, and were cured: 28:10who also honored us with many honors; and when we sailed, they put on board such things as we needed. 28:11And after three months we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose sign was The Twin Brothers. 28:12And touching at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. 28:13And from thence we made a circuit, and arrived at Rhegium: and after one day a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli; 28:14where we found brethren, and were entreated to tarry with them seven days: and so we came to Rome. 28:15And from thence the brethren, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns; whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage. 28:16And when we entered into Rome, Paul was suffered to abide by himself with the soldier that guarded him. 28:17And it came to pass, that after three days he called together those that were the chief of the Jews: and when they were come together, he said unto them, I, brethren, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, yet was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans: 28:18who, when they had examined me, desired to set me at liberty, because there was no cause of death in me. 28:19But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal unto Caesar; not that I had aught whereof to accuse my nation. 28:20For this cause therefore did I entreat you to see and to speak with me: for because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain. 28:21And they said unto him, We neither received letters from Judaea concerning thee, nor did any of the brethren come hither and report or speak any harm of thee. 28:22But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against. 28:23And when they had appointed him a day, they came to him into his lodging in great number; to whom he expounded the matter, testifying the kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning till evening. 28:24And some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved. 28:25And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Spirit through Isaiah the prophet unto your fathers, 28:26saying,
Go thou unto this people, and say,
By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand;
And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:
28:27For this people's heart is waxed gross,
And their ears are dull of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed;
Lest, haply they should perceive with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart,
And should turn again,
And I should heal them.
28:28Be it known therefore unto you, that this salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles: they will also hear. 28:29And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, having much disputing among themselves. 28:30And he abode two whole years in his own hired dwelling, and received all that went in unto him, 28:31preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, none forbidding him.
