Genesis

32:1And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 32:2And Jacob said when he saw them, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

32:3And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the field of Edom. 32:4And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye say unto my lord Esau: Thus saith thy servant Jacob, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed until now: 32:5and I have oxen, and asses, and flocks, and men-servants, and maid-servants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in thy sight. 32:6And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and moreover he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. 32:7Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed: and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies; 32:8and he said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the company which is left shall escape. 32:9And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, O Jehovah, who saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will do thee good: 32:10I am not worthy of the least of all the lovingkindnesses, and of all the truth, which thou hast showed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two companies. 32:11Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he come and smite me, the mother with the children. 32:12And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

32:13And he lodged there that night, and took of that which he had with him a present for Esau his brother: 32:14two hundred she-goats and twenty he-goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams, 32:15thirty milch camels and their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty she-asses and ten foals. 32:16And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space betwixt drove and drove. 32:17And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee? 32:18then thou shalt say They are thy servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, he also is behind us. 32:19And he commanded also the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him; 32:20and ye shall say, Moreover, behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept me. 32:21So the present passed over before him: and he himself lodged that night in the company.

32:22And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two handmaids, and his eleven children, and passed over the ford of the Jabbok. 32:23And he took them, and sent them over the stream, and sent over that which he had. 32:24And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 32:25And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was strained, as he wrestled with him. 32:26And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 32:27And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 32:28And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for thou hast striven with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 32:29And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 32:30And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for, said he, I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. 32:31And the sun rose upon him as he passed over Penuel, and he limped upon his thigh. 32:32Therefore the children of Israel eat not the sinew of the hip which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew of the hip.

Mark

3:1And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there who had his hand withered. 3:2And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him. 3:3And he saith unto the man that had his hand withered, Stand forth. 3:4And he saith unto them, Is it lawful on the sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? to save a life, or to kill? But they held their peace. 3:5And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their heart, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and his hand was restored. 3:6And the Pharisees went out, and straightway with the Herodians took counsel against him, how they might destroy him. 3:7And Jesus with his disciples withdrew to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed; and from Judaea, 3:8and from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and beyond the Jordan, and about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, hearing what great things he did, came unto him. 3:9And he spake to his disciples, that a little boat should wait on him because of the crowd, lest they should throng him: 3:10for he had healed many; insomuch that as many as had plagues pressed upon him that they might touch him. 3:11And the unclean spirits, whensoever they beheld him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. 3:12And he charged them much that they should not make him known. 3:13And he goeth up into the mountain, and calleth unto him whom he himself would; and they went unto him. 3:14And he appointed twelve, that they might be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 3:15and to have authority to cast out demons: 3:16and Simon he surnamed Peter; 3:17and James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and them he surnamed Boanerges, which is, Sons of thunder: 3:18and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Cananaean, 3:19and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him. And he cometh into a house. 3:20And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 3:21And when his friends heard it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. 3:22And the scribes that came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and, By the prince of the demons casteth he out the demons. 3:23And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 3:24And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 3:25And if a house be divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 3:26And if Satan hath rise up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 3:27But no one can enter into the house of the strong man, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. 3:28Verily I say unto you, All their sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and their blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 3:29but whosoever shall blaspheme against the Holy Spirit hath never forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin: 3:30because they said, He hath an unclean spirit. 3:31And there come his mother and his brethren; and, standing without, they sent unto him, calling him. 3:32And a multitude was sitting about him; and they say unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. 3:33And he answereth them, and saith, Who is my mother and my brethren? 3:34And looking round on them that sat round about him, he saith, Behold, my mother and my brethren! 3:35For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Esther

8:1On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her. 8:2And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman. 8:3And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews. 8:4Then the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre. So Esther arose, and stood before the king. 8:5And she said, If it please the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews that are in all the king's provinces: 8:6for how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred? 8:7Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews. 8:8Write ye also to the Jews, as it pleaseth you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring; for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse. 8:9Then were the king's scribes called at that time, in the third month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the satraps, and the governors and princes of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, a hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language. 8:10And he wrote the name of king Ahasuerus, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by post on horseback, riding on swift steeds that were used in the king's service, bred of the stud: 8:11wherein the king granted the Jews that were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, their little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey, 8:12upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar. 8:13A copy of the writing, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published unto all the peoples, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies. 8:14So the posts that rode upon swift steeds that were used in the king's service went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment; and the decree was given out in Shushan the palace. 8:15And Mordecai went forth from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a robe of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan shouted and was glad. 8:16The Jews had light and gladness, and joy and honor. 8:17And in every province, and in every city, whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had gladness and joy, a feast and a good day. And many from among the peoples of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews was fallen upon them.

Romans

3:1What advantage then hath the Jew? or what is the profit of circumcision? 3:2Much every way: first of all, that they were intrusted with the oracles of God. 3:3For what if some were without faith? shall their want of faith make of none effect the faithfulness of God? 3:4God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written,

 That thou mightest be justified in thy words,

 And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.

3:5But if our righteousness commendeth the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who visiteth with wrath? (I speak after the manner of men.) 3:6God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world? 3:7But if the truth of God through my lie abounded unto his glory, why am I also still judged as a sinner? 3:8and why not (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say), Let us do evil, that good may come? whose condemnation is just. 3:9What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we before laid to the charge both of Jews and Greeks, that they are all under sin; 3:10as it is written,

 There is none righteous, no, not one;

 3:11There is none that understandeth,

 There is none that seeketh after God;

 3:12They have all turned aside, they are together become unprofitable;

 There is none that doeth good, no, not, so much as one:

 3:13Their throat is an open sepulchre;

 With their tongues they have used deceit:

 The poison of asps is under their lips:

 3:14Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

 3:15Their feet are swift to shed blood;

 3:16Destruction and misery are in their ways;

 3:17And the way of peace have they not known:

 3:18There is no fear of God before their eyes.

3:19Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it speaketh to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God: 3:20because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified in his sight; for through the law cometh the knowledge of sin. 3:21But now apart from the law a righteousness of God hath been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 3:22even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ unto all them that believe; for there is no distinction; 3:23for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God; 3:24being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 3:25whom God set forth to be a propitiation, through faith, in his blood, to show his righteousness because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God; 3:26for the showing, I say, of his righteousness at this present season: that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him that hath faith in Jesus. 3:27Where then is the glorying? It is excluded. By what manner of law? of works? Nay: but by a law of faith. 3:28We reckon therefore that a man is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. 3:29Or is God the God of Jews only? is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yea, of Gentiles also: 3:30if so be that God is one, and he shall justify the circumcision by faith, and the uncircumcision through faith. 3:31Do we then make the law of none effect through faith? God forbid: nay, we establish the law.
