Joshua

5:1And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

5:2At that time Jehovah said unto Joshua, Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time. 5:3And Joshua made him knives of lint, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins. 5:4And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt. 5:5For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, they had not circumcised. 5:6For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah: unto whom Jehovah sware that he would not let them see the land which Jehovah sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. 5:7And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them did Joshua circumcise: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way. 5:8And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the nation, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole. 5:9And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.

5:10And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho. 5:11And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day. 5:12And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

5:13And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? 5:14And he said, Nay; but as prince of the host of Jehovah am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? 5:15And the prince of Jehovah's host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

6:1Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. 6:2And Jehovah said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thy hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valor. 6:3And ye shall compass the city, all the men of war, going about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. 6:4And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 6:5And it shall be, that, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.

Psalms

A Song of Ascents.

 132:1Jehovah, remember for David

 All his affliction;

 132:2How he sware unto Jehovah,

 And vowed unto the Mighty One of Jacob:

 132:3Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house,

 Nor go up into my bed;

 132:4I will not give sleep to mine eyes,

 Or slumber to mine eyelids;

 132:5Until I find out a place for Jehovah,

 A tabernacle for the Mighty One of Jacob.

 132:6Lo, we heard of it in Ephrathah:

 We found it in the field of the wood.

 132:7We will go into his tabernacles;

 We will worship at his footstool.

 132:8Arise, O Jehovah, into thy resting-place;

 Thou, and the ark of thy strength.

 132:9Let thy priest be clothed with righteousness;

 And let thy saints shout for joy.

 132:10For thy servant David's sake

 Turn not away the face of thine anointed.

 132:11Jehovah hath sworn unto David in truth;

 He will not turn from it:

 Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

 132:12If thy children will keep my covenant

 And my testimony that I shall teach them,

 Their children also shall sit upon thy throne for evermore.

 132:13For Jehovah hath chosen Zion;

 He hath desired it for his habitation.

 132:14This is my resting-place for ever:

 Here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

 132:15I will abundantly bless her provision:

 I will satisfy her poor with bread.

 132:16Her priests also will I clothe with salvation;

 And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

 132:17There will I make the horn of David to bud:

 I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.

 132:18His enemies will I clothe with shame;

 But upon himself shall his crown flourish.

Psalm 133

A Song of Ascents; of David.

 133:1Behold, how good and how pleasant it is

 For brethren to dwell together in unity!

 133:2It is like the precious oil upon the head,

 That ran down upon the beard,

 Even Aaron's beard;

 That came down upon the skirt of his garments;

 133:3Like the dew of Hermon,

 That cometh down upon the mountains of Zion:

 For there Jehovah commanded the blessing,

 Even life for evermore.

Psalm 134

A Song of Ascents.

 134:1Behold, bless ye Jehovah, all ye servants of Jehovah,

 That by night stand in the house of Jehovah.

 134:2Lift up your hands to the sanctuary,

 And bless ye Jehovah.

 134:3Jehovah bless thee out of Zion;

 Even he that made heaven and earth.

Isaiah

65:1I am inquired of by them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. 65:2I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, that walk in a way that is not good, after their own thoughts; 65:3a people that provoke me to my face continually, sacrificing in gardens, and burning incense upon bricks; 65:4that sit among the graves, and lodge in the secret places; that eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels; 65:5that say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me, for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day. 65:6Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, yea, I will recompense into their bosom, 65:7your own iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith Jehovah, that have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon the hills; therefore will I first measure their work into their bosom. 65:8Thus saith Jehovah, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not, for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sake, that I may not destroy them all. 65:9And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains; and my chosen shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there. 65:10And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me. 65:11But ye that forsake Jehovah, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for Fortune, and that fill up mingled wine unto Destiny; 65:12I will destine you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter; because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but ye did that which was evil in mine eyes, and chose that wherein I delighted not. 65:13Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be put to shame; 65:14behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall wail for vexation of spirit. 65:15And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen; and the Lord Jehovah will slay thee; and he will call his servants by another name: 65:16so that he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes. 65:17For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. 65:18But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create; for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 65:19And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people; and there shall be heard in her no more the voice of weeping and the voice of crying. 65:20There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days; for the child shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed. 65:21And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 65:22They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree shall be the days of my people, and my chosen shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 65:23They shall not labor in vain, nor bring forth for calamity; for they are the seed of the blessed of Jehovah, and their offspring with them. 65:24And it shall come to pass that, before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear. 65:25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the ox; and dust shall be the serpent's food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith Jehovah.

Matthew

13:1On that day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 13:2And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into a boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach. 13:3And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow; 13:4and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them: 13:5and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth: 13:6and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 13:7And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: 13:8and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 13:9He that hath ears, let him hear.

13:10And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 13:11And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 13:12For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. 13:13Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 13:14And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith,

 By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand;

 And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:

 13:15For this people's heart is waxed gross,

 And their ears are dull of hearing,

 And their eyes they have closed;

 Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes,

 And hear with their ears,

 And understand with their heart,

 And should turn again,

 And I should heal them.

13:16But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear. 13:17For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not. 13:18Hear then ye the parable of the sower. 13:19When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side. 13:20And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; 13:21yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth. 13:22And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 13:23And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

13:24Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man that sowed good seed in his field: 13:25but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares also among the wheat, and went away. 13:26But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 13:27And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares? 13:28And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 13:29But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them. 13:30Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.

13:31Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: 13:32which indeed is less than all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and lodge in the branches thereof.

13:33Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.

13:34All these things spake Jesus in parables unto the multitudes; and without a parable spake he nothing unto them: 13:35that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

 I will open my mouth in parables;

 I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.

13:36Then he left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 13:37And he answered and said, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 13:38and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; 13:39and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels. 13:40As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of the world. 13:41The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and them that do iniquity, 13:42and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. 13:43Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears, let him hear.

13:44The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

13:45Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls: 13:46and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

13:47Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 13:48which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach; and they sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but the bad they cast away. 13:49So shall it be in the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the righteous, 13:50and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

13:51Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea. 13:52And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

13:53And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

13:54And coming into his own country he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 13:55Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas? 13:56And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? 13:57And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house. 13:58And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
