Joshua

12:1Now these are the kings of the land, whom the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land beyond the Jordan toward the sunrising, from the valley of the Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the Arabah eastward: 12:2Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and half Gilead, even unto the river Jabbok, the border of the children of Ammon; 12:3and the Arabah unto the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and unto the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth-jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah: 12:4and the border of Og king of Bashan, of the remnant of the Rephaim, who dwelt at Ashtaroth and at Edrei, 12:5and ruled in mount Hermon, and in Salecah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon. 12:6Moses the servant of Jehovah and the children of Israel smote them: and Moses the servant of Jehovah gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

12:7And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the children of Israel smote beyond the Jordan westward, from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon even unto mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; and Joshua gave it unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions; 12:8in the hill-country, and in the lowland, and in the Arabah, and in the slopes, and in the wilderness, and in the South; the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: 12:9the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; 12:10the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; 12:11the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; 12:12the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; 12:13the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; 12:14the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; 12:15the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; 12:16the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one; 12:17the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; 12:18the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lassharon, one; 12:19the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; 12:20the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Achshaph, one; 12:21the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one; 12:22the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; 12:23the king of Dor in the height of Dor, one; the king of Goiim in Gilgal, one; 12:24the king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty and one.

13:1Now Joshua was old and well stricken in years; and Jehovah said unto him, Thou art old and well stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed. 13:2This is the land that yet remaineth: all the regions of the Philistines, and all the Geshurites; 13:3from the Shihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the border of Ekron northward, which is reckoned to the Canaanites; the five lords of the Philistines; the Gazites, and the Ashdodites, the Ashkelonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avvim, 13:4on the south; all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that belongeth to the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the border of the Amorites; 13:5and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baal-gad under mount Hermon unto the entrance of Hamath; 13:6all the inhabitants of the hill-country from Lebanon unto Misrephoth-maim, even all the Sidonians; them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only allot thou it unto Israel for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee. 13:7Now therefore divide this land for an inheritance unto the nine tribes, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

13:8With him the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, even as Moses the servant of Jehovah gave them: 13:9from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon; 13:10and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon; 13:11and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salecah; 13:12all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (the same was left of the remnant of the Rephaim); for these did Moses smite, and drove them out. 13:13Nevertheless the children of Israel drove not out the Geshurites, nor the Maacathites: but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel unto this day. 13:14Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the offerings of Jehovah, the God of Israel, made by fire are his inheritance, as he spake unto him.

13:15And Moses gave unto the tribe of the children of Reuben according to their families. 13:16And their border was from Aroer, that is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba; 13:17Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon, 13:18and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath, 13:19and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar in the mount of the valley, 13:20and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth, 13:21and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, that dwelt in the land. 13:22Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among the rest of their slain. 13:23And the border of the children of Reuben was the Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

13:24And Moses gave unto the tribe of Gad, unto the children of Gad, according to their families. 13:25And their border was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah; 13:26and from Heshbon unto Ramath-mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim unto the border of Debir; 13:27and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan and the border thereof, unto the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward. 13:28This is the inheritance of the children of Gad according to their families, the cities and the villages thereof.

13:29And Moses gave inheritance unto the half-tribe of Manasseh: and it was for the half-tribe of the children of Manasseh according to their families. 13:30And their border was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities: 13:31and half Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, even for the half of the children of Machir according to their families.

13:32These are the inheritances which Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastward. 13:33But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave no inheritance: Jehovah, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, as he spake unto them.

Psalms

A Psalm of praise; of David.

 145:1I will extol thee, my God, O King;

 And I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

 145:2Every day will I bless thee;

 And I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

 145:3Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised;

 And his greatness is unsearchable.

 145:4One generation shall laud thy works to another,

 And shall declare thy mighty acts.

 145:5Of the glorious majesty of thine honor,

 And of thy wondrous works, will I meditate.

 145:6And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts;

 And I will declare thy greatness.

 145:7They shall utter the memory of thy great goodness,

 And shall sing of thy righteousness.

 145:8Jehovah is gracious, and merciful;

 Slow to anger, and of great lovingkindness.

 145:9Jehovah is good to all;

 And his tender mercies are over all his works.

 145:10All thy works shall give thanks unto thee, O Jehovah;

 And thy saints shall bless thee.

 145:11They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom,

 And talk of thy power;

 145:12To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts,

 And the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.

 145:13Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,

 And thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

 145:14Jehovah upholdeth all that fall,

 And raiseth up all those that are bowed down.

 145:15The eyes of all wait for thee;

 And thou givest them their food in due season.

 145:16Thou openest thy hand,

 And satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

 145:17Jehovah is righteous in all his ways,

 And gracious in all his works.

 145:18Jehovah is nigh unto all them that call upon him,

 To all that call upon him in truth.

 145:19He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him;

 He also will hear their cry and will save them.

 145:20Jehovah preserveth all them that love him;

 But all the wicked will he destroy.

 145:21My mouth shall speak the praise of Jehovah;

 And let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

Jeremiah

6:1Flee for safety, ye children of Benjamin, out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise up a signal on Beth-haccherem; for evil looketh forth from the north, and a great destruction. 6:2The comely and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will I cut off. 6:3Shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place. 6:4Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day declineth, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out. 6:5Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces. 6:6For thus hath Jehovah of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her. 6:7As a well casteth forth its waters, so she casteth forth her wickedness: violence and destruction is heard in her; before me continually is sickness and wounds. 6:8Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from thee; lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited. 6:9Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn again thy hand as a grape-gatherer into the baskets. 6:10To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of Jehovah is become unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it. 6:11Therefore I am full of the wrath of Jehovah; I am weary with holding in: pour it out upon the children in the street, and upon the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days. 6:12And their houses shall be turned unto others, their fields and their wives together; for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith Jehovah. 6:13For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely. 6:14They have healed also the hurt of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. 6:15Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall; at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith Jehovah. 6:16Thus saith Jehovah, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk therein. 6:17And I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet; but they said, We will not hearken. 6:18Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them. 6:19Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it. 6:20To what purpose cometh there to me frankincense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt-offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing unto me. 6:21Therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will lay stumbling-blocks before this people; and the fathers and the sons together shall stumble against them; the neighbor and his friend shall perish. 6:22Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, a people cometh from the north country; and a great nation shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth. 6:23They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea, and they ride upon horses, every one set in array, as a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Zion. 6:24We have heard the report thereof; our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pangs as of a woman in travail. 6:25Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy, and terror, are on every side. 6:26O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come upon us. 6:27I have made thee a trier and a fortress among my people; that thou mayest know and try their way. 6:28They are all grievous revolters, going about with slanders; they are brass and iron: they all of them deal corruptly. 6:29The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away. 6:30Refuse silver shall men them, because Jehovah hath rejected them.

Matthew

20:1For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that was a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. 20:2And when he had agreed with the laborers for a shilling a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 20:3And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing in the marketplace idle; 20:4and to them he said, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. 20:5Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. 20:6And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? 20:7They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard. 20:8And when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the laborers, and pay them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. 20:9And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a shilling. 20:10And when the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise received every man a shilling. 20:11And when they received it, they murmured against the householder, 20:12saying, These last have spent but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat. 20:13But he answered and said to one of them, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a shilling? 20:14Take up that which is thine, and go thy way; it is my will to give unto this last, even as unto thee. 20:15Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? or is thine eye evil, because I am good? 20:16So the last shall be first, and the first last.

20:17And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples apart, and on the way he said unto them, 20:18Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests and scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, 20:19and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify: and the third day he shall be raised up.

20:20Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, worshipping him, and asking a certain thing of him. 20:21And he said unto her, What wouldest thou? She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom. 20:22But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink? They say unto him, We are able. 20:23He saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give; but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared of my Father. 20:24And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation concerning the two brethren. 20:25But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 20:26Not so shall it be among you: but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister; 20:27and whosoever would be first among you shall be your servant: 20:28even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

20:29And as they went out from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. 20:30And behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, thou son of David. 20:31And the multitude rebuked them, that they should hold their peace: but they cried out the more, saying, Lord, have mercy on us, thou son of David. 20:32And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I should do unto you? 20:33They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. 20:34And Jesus, being moved with compassion, touched their eyes; and straightway they received their sight, and followed him.
