Joshua

14:1And these are the inheritances which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed unto them, 14:2by the lot of their inheritance, as Jehovah commanded by Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half-tribe. 14:3For Moses had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. 14:4For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: and they gave no portion unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for their cattle and for their substance. 14:5As Jehovah commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did; and they divided the land.

14:6Then the children of Judah drew nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that Jehovah spake unto Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning thee in Kadesh-barnea. 14:7Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of Jehovah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. 14:8Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Jehovah my God. 14:9And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy foot hath trodden shall be an inheritance to thee and to thy children for ever, because thou hast wholly followed Jehovah my God. 14:10And now, behold, Jehovah hath kept me alive, as he spake, these forty and five years, from the time that Jehovah spake this word unto Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. 14:11As yet I am as strong this day as I as in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, and to go out and to come in. 14:12Now therefore give me this hill-country, whereof Jehovah spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified: it may be that Jehovah will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Jehovah spake.

14:13And Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. 14:14Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite unto this day; because that he wholly followed Jehovah, the God of Israel. 14:15Now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba; which Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

15:1And the lot for the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families was unto the border of Edom, even to the wilderness of Zin southward, at the uttermost part of the south. 15:2And their south border was from the uttermost part of the Salt Sea, from the bay that looketh southward; 15:3and it went out southward of the ascent of Akrabbim, and passed along to Zin, and went up by the south of Kadesh-barnea, and passed along by Hezron, and went up to Addar, and turned about to Karka; 15:4and it passed along to Azmon, and went out at the brook of Egypt; and the goings out of the border were at the sea: this shall be your south border. 15:5And the east border was the Salt Sea, even unto the end of the Jordan. And the border of the north quarter was from the bay of the sea at the end of the Jordan; 15:6and the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and passed along by the north of Beth-arabah; and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben; 15:7and the border went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, looking toward Gilgal, that is over against the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south side of the river; and the border passed along to the waters of En-shemesh, and the goings out thereof were at En-rogel; 15:8and the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the side of the Jebusite southward (the same is Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the uttermost part of the vale of Rephaim northward; 15:9and the border extended from the top of the mountain unto the fountain of the waters of Nephtoah, and went out to the cities of mount Ephron; and the border extended to Baalah (the same is Kiriath-jearim); 15:10and the border turned about from Baalah westward unto mount Seir, and passed along unto the side of mount Jearim on the north (the same is Chesalon), and went down to Beth-shemesh, and passed along by Timnah; 15:11and the border went out unto the side of Ekron northward; and the border extended to Shikkeron, and passed along to mount Baalah, and went out at Jabneel; and the goings out of the border were at the sea. 15:12And the west border was to the great sea, and the border thereof. This is the border of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

15:13And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of Jehovah to Joshua, even Kiriath-arba, which Arba was the father of Anak (the same is Hebron). 15:14And Caleb drove out thence the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15:15And he went up thence against the inhabitants of Debir: now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher. 15:16And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife. 15:17And Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife. 15:18And it came to pass, when she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said, What wouldest thou? 15:19And she said, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And he gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.

15:20This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah according to their families.

15:21And the uttermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur, 15:22and Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah, 15:23and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Ithnan, 15:24Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth, 15:25and Hazor-hadattah, and Kerioth-hezron (the same is Hazor), 15:26Amam, and Shema, and Moladah, 15:27and Hazar-gaddah, and Heshmon, and Beth-pelet, 15:28and Hazar-shual, and Beer-sheba, and Biziothiah, 15:29Baalah, and Iim, and Ezem, 15:30and Eltolad, and Chesil, and Hormah, 15:31and Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah, 15:32and Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages.

15:33In the lowland, Eshtaol, and Zorah, and Ashnah, 15:34and Zanoah, and En-gannim, Tappuah, and Enam, 15:35Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah, 15:36and Shaaraim, and Adithaim, and Gederah, and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages.

15:37Zenan, and Hadashah, and Migdal-gad, 15:38and Dilean, and Mizpeh, and Joktheel, 15:39Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon, 15:40and Cabbon, and Lahmam, and Chitlish, 15:41and Gederoth, Beth-dagon, and Naamah, and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages.

15:42Libnah, and Ether, and Ashan, 15:43and Iphtah, and Ashnah, and Nezib, 15:44and Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.

15:45Ekron, with its towns and its villages; 15:46from Ekron even unto the sea, all that were by the side of Ashdod, with their villages.

15:47Ashdod, its towns and its villages; Gaza, its towns and its villages; unto the brook of Egypt, and the great sea, and the border thereof.

15:48And in the hill-country, Shamir, and Jattir, and Socoh, 15:49and Dannah, and Kiriath-sannah (the same is Debir), 15:50and Anab, and Eshtemoh, and Anim, 15:51and Goshen, and Holon, and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages.

15:52Arab, and Dumah, and Eshan, 15:53and Janim, and Beth-tappuah, and Aphekah, 15:54and Humtah, and Kiriath-arba (the same is Hebron), and Zior; nine cities with their villages.

15:55Maon, Carmel, and Ziph, and Jutah, 15:56and Jezreel, and Jokdeam, and Zanoah, 15:57Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah; ten cities with their villages.

15:58Halhul, Beth-zur, and Gedor, 15:59and Maarath, and Beth-anoth, and Eltekon; six cities with their villages.

15:60Kiriath-baal (the same is Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah; two cities with their villages.

15:61In the wilderness, Beth-arabah, Middin, and Secacah, 15:62and Nibshan, and the City of Salt, and En-gedi; six cities with their villages.

15:63And as for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out: but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Judah at Jerusalem unto this day.

Psalms

146:1Praise ye Jehovah.

 Praise Jehovah, O my soul.

 146:2While I live will I praise Jehovah:

 I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

 146:3Put not your trust in princes,

 Nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.

 146:4His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth;

 In that very day his thoughts perish.

 146:5Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help,

 Whose hope is in Jehovah his God:

 146:6Who made heaven and earth,

 The sea, and all that in them is;

 Who keepeth truth for ever;

 146:7Who executeth justice for the oppressed;

 Who giveth food to the hungry.

 Jehovah looseth the prisoners;

 146:8Jehovah openeth the eyes of the blind;

 Jehovah raiseth up them that are bowed down;

 Jehovah loveth the righteous;

 146:9Jehovah preserveth the sojourners;

 He upholdeth the fatherless and widow;

 But the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.

 146:10Jehovah will reign for ever,

 Thy God, O Zion, unto all generations.

 Praise ye Jehovah.

Psalm 147

 147:1Praise ye Jehovah;

 For it is good to sing praises unto our God;

 For it is pleasant, and praise is comely.

 147:2Jehovah doth build up Jerusalem;

 He gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.

 147:3He healeth the broken in heart,

 And bindeth up their wounds.

 147:4He counteth the number of the stars;

 He calleth them all by their names.

 147:5Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;

 His understanding is infinite.

 147:6Jehovah upholdeth the meek:

 He bringeth the wicked down to the ground.

 147:7Sing unto Jehovah with thanksgiving;

 Sing praises upon the harp unto our God,

 147:8Who covereth the heavens with clouds,

 Who prepareth rain for the earth,

 Who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.

 147:9He giveth to the beast his food,

 And to the young ravens which cry.

 147:10He delighteth not in the strength of the horse:

 He taketh no pleasure in the legs of a man.

 147:11Jehovah taketh pleasure in them that fear him,

 In those that hope in his lovingkindness.

 147:12Praise Jehovah, O Jerusalem;

 Praise thy God, O Zion.

 147:13For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates;

 He hath blessed thy children within thee.

 147:14He maketh peace in thy borders;

 He filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

 147:15He sendeth out his commandment upon earth;

 His word runneth very swiftly.

 147:16He giveth snow like wool;

 He scattereth the hoar-frost like ashes.

 147:17He casteth forth his ice like morsels:

 Who can stand before his cold?

 147:18He sendeth out his word, and melteth them:

 He causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

 147:19He showeth his word unto Jacob,

 His statutes and his ordinances unto Israel.

 147:20He hath not dealt so with any nation;

 And as for his ordinances, they have not known them.

 Praise ye Jehovah.

Jeremiah

7:1The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, 7:2Stand in the gate of Jehovah's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of Jehovah, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship Jehovah. 7:3Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. 7:4Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, the temple of Jehovah, are these. 7:5For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor; 7:6if ye oppress not the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your own hurt: 7:7then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, from of old even for evermore. 7:8Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. 7:9Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods that ye have not known, 7:10and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered; that ye may do all these abominations? 7:11Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it, saith Jehovah. 7:12But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I caused my name to dwell at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel. 7:13And now, because ye have done all these works, saith Jehovah, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not: 7:14therefore will I do unto the house which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. 7:15And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim. 7:16Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me; for I will not hear thee. 7:17Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 7:18The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead the dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger. 7:19Do they provoke me to anger? saith Jehovah; do they not provoke themselves, to the confusion of their own faces? 7:20Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched. 7:21Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt-offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat ye flesh. 7:22For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt-offerings or sacrifices: 7:23but this thing I commanded them, saying, Hearken unto my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people; and walk ye in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you. 7:24But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward. 7:25Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day, I have sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: 7:26yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff: they did worse than their fathers. 7:27And thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee. 7:28And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hath not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth. 7:29Cut off thy hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the bare heights; for Jehovah hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath. 7:30For the children of Judah have done that which is evil in my sight, saith Jehovah: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it. 7:31And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded not, neither came it into my mind. 7:32Therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that it shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter: for they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury. 7:33And the dead bodies of this people shall be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall frighten them away. 7:34Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.

Matthew

21:1And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and came unto Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 21:2saying unto them, Go into the village that is over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. 21:3And if any one say aught unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. 21:4Now this is come to pass, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

 21:5Tell ye the daughter of Zion,

 Behold, thy King cometh unto thee,

 Meek, and riding upon an ass,

 And upon a colt the foal of an ass.

21:6And the disciples went, and did even as Jesus appointed them, 21:7and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their garments; and he sat thereon. 21:8And the most part of the multitude spread their garments in the way; and others cut branches from the trees, and spread them in the way. 21:9And the multitudes that went before him, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. 21:10And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, Who is this? 21:11And the multitudes said, This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.

21:12And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of he money-changers, and the seats of them that sold the doves; 21:13and he saith unto them, It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer: but ye make it a den of robbers. 21:14And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. 21:15But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children that were crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were moved with indignation, 21:16and said unto him, Hearest thou what these are saying? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea: did ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou has perfected praise? 21:17And he left them, and went forth out of the city to Bethany, and lodged there.

21:18Now in the morning as he returned to the city, he hungered. 21:19And seeing a fig tree by the way side, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only; and he saith unto it, Let there be no fruit from thee henceforward for ever. And immediately the fig tree withered away. 21:20And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How did the fig tree immediately wither away? 21:21And Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do what is done to the fig tree, but even if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou taken up and cast into the sea, it shall be done. 21:22And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

21:23And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? 21:24And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one question, which if ye tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things. 21:25The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him? 21:26But if we shall say, From men; we fear the multitude; for all hold John as a prophet. 21:27And they answered Jesus, and said, We know not. He also said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. 21:28But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard. 21:29And he answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented himself, and went. 21:30And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 21:31Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. 21:32For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye saw it, did not even repent yourselves afterward, that ye might believe him.

21:33Hear another parable: There was a man that was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country. 21:34And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, to receive his fruits. 21:35And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. 21:36Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them in like manner. 21:37But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. 21:38But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. 21:39And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. 21:40When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do unto those husbandmen? 21:41They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those miserable men, and will let out the vineyard unto other husbandmen, who shall render him the fruits in their seasons. 21:42Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures,

 The stone which the builders rejected,

 The same was made the head of the corner;

 This was from the Lord,

 And it is marvelous in our eyes?

21:43Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken away from you, and shall be given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 21:44And he that falleth on this stone shall be broken to pieces: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust. 21:45And when the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. 21:46And when they sought to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, because they took him for a prophet.
