23:1And it came to pass after many days, when Jehovah had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua was old and well stricken in years; 23:2that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said unto them, I am old and well stricken in years: 23:3and ye have seen all that Jehovah your God hath done unto all these nations because of you; for Jehovah your God, he it is that hath fought for you. 23:4Behold, I have allotted unto you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun. 23:5And Jehovah your God, he will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as Jehovah your God spake unto you. 23:6Therefore be ye very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left; 23:7that ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves unto them; 23:8but cleave unto Jehovah your God, as ye have done unto this day. 23:9For Jehovah hath driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man hath stood before you unto this day. 23:10One man of you shall chase a thousand; for Jehovah your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he spake unto you. 23:11Take good heed therefore unto yourselves, that ye love Jehovah your God. 23:12Else if ye do at all go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you; 23:13know for a certainty that Jehovah your God will no more drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap unto you, and a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which Jehovah your God hath given you.
23:14And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which Jehovah your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, not one thing hath failed thereof. 23:15And it shall come to pass, that as all the good things are come upon you of which Jehovah your God spake unto you, so will Jehovah bring upon you all the evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which Jehovah your God hath given you. 23:16When ye transgress the covenant of Jehovah your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them; then will the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.
3:1Now Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. 3:2And a certain man that was lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3:3who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked to receive an alms. 3:4And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him, with John, said, Look on us. 3:5And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something from them. 3:6But Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but what I have, that give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk. 3:7And he took him by the right hand, and raised him up: and immediately his feet and his ankle-bones received strength. 3:8And leaping up, he stood, and began to walk; and he entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. 3:9And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 3:10and they took knowledge of him, that it was he that sat for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. 3:11And as he held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. 3:12And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this man? or why fasten ye your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him to walk? 3:13The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Servant Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied before the face of Pilate, when he had determined to release him. 3:14But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you, 3:15and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 3:16And by faith in his name hath his name made this man strong, whom ye behold and know: yea, the faith which is through him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 3:17And now, brethren, I know that in ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. 3:18But the things which God foreshowed by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled. 3:19Repent ye therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that so there may come seasons of refreshing from the presence of the Lord; 3:20and that he may send the Christ who hath been appointed for you, even Jesus: 3:21whom the heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, whereof God spake by the mouth of His holy prophets that have been from of old. 3:22Moses indeed said, A prophet shall the Lord God raise up unto you from among your brethren, like unto me. To him shall ye hearken in all things whatsoever he shall speak unto you. 3:23And it shall be, that every soul that shall not hearken to that prophet, shall be utterly destroyed from among the people. 3:24Yea and all the prophets from Samuel and them that followed after, as many as have spoken, they also told of these days. 3:25Ye are the sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 3:26Unto you first God, having raised up his Servant, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.
12:1Righteous art thou, O Jehovah, when I contend with thee; yet would I reason the cause with thee: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they at ease that deal very treacherously? 12:2Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root; they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their heart. 12:3But thou, O Jehovah, knowest me; thou seest me, and triest my heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter. 12:4How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? for the wickedness of them that dwell therein, the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our latter end. 12:5If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and though in a land of peace thou art secure, yet how wilt thou do in the pride of the Jordan? 12:6For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; even they have cried aloud after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee. 12:7I have forsaken my house, I have cast off my heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies. 12:8My heritage is become unto me as a lion in the forest: she hath uttered her voice against me; therefore I have hated her. 12:9Is my heritage unto me as a speckled bird of prey? are the birds of prey against her round about? go ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, bring them to devour. 12:10Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness. 12:11They have made it a desolation; it mourneth unto me, being desolate; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart. 12:12Destroyers are come upon all the bare heights in the wilderness; for the sword of Jehovah devoureth from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh hath peace. 12:13They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, and profit nothing: and ye shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce anger of Jehovah. 12:14Thus saith Jehovah against all mine evil neighbors, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them. 12:15And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land. 12:16And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As Jehovah liveth; even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people. 12:17But if they will not hear, then will I pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, saith Jehovah.
26:1And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples, 26:2Ye know that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified. 26:3Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the elders of the people, unto the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas; 26:4and they took counsel together that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him. 26:5But they said, Not during the feast, lest a tumult arise among people.
26:6Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 26:7there came unto him a woman having an alabaster cruse of exceeding precious ointment, and she poured it upon his head, as he sat at meat. 26:8But when the disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste? 26:9For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor. 26:10But Jesus perceiving it said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. 26:11For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. 26:12For in that she poured this ointment upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 26:13Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which this woman hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
26:14Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, 26:15and said, What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they weighed unto him thirty pieces of silver. 26:16And from that time he sought opportunity to deliver him unto them.
26:17Now on the first day of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where wilt thou that we make ready for thee to eat the passover? 26:18And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Teacher saith, My time is at hand; I keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. 26:19And the disciples did as Jesus appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
26:20Now when even was come, he was sitting at meat with the twelve disciples; 26:21and as they were eating, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 26:22And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began to say unto him every one, Is it I, Lord? 26:23And he answered and said, He that dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. 26:24The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born. 26:25And Judas, who betrayed him, answered and said, Is it I, Rabbi? He saith unto him, Thou hast said.
26:26And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it; and he gave to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. 26:27And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; 26:28for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many unto remission of sins. 26:29But I say unto you, I shall not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
26:30And when they had sung a hymn, they went out unto the mount of Olives.
26:31Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended in me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 26:32But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee. 26:33But Peter answered and said unto him, If all shall be offended in thee, I will never be offended. 26:34Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, that this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 26:35Peter saith unto him, Even if I must die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
26:36Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I go yonder and pray. 26:37And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and sore troubled. 26:38Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: abide ye here, and watch with me. 26:39And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. 26:40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 26:41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 26:42Again a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, thy will be done. 26:43And he came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 26:44And he left them again, and went away, and prayed a third time, saying again the same words. 26:45Then cometh he to the disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 26:46Arise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that betrayeth me.
26:47And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priest and elders of the people. 26:48Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he: take him. 26:49And straightway he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, Rabbi; and kissed him. 26:50And Jesus said unto him, Friend, do that for which thou art come. Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 26:51And behold, one of them that were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear. 26:52Then saith Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 26:53Or thinkest thou that I cannot beseech my Father, and he shall even now send me more than twelve legions of angels? 26:54How then should the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be? 26:55In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and staves to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and ye took me not. 26:56But all this is come to pass, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.
26:57And they that had taken Jesus led him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. 26:58But Peter followed him afar off, unto the court of the high priest, and entered in, and sat with the officers, to see the end. 26:59Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death; 26:60and they found it not, though many false witnesses came. But afterward came two, 26:61and said, This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. 26:62And the high priest stood up, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 26:63But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God. 26:64Jesus said unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Henceforth ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven. 26:65Then the high priest rent his garments, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy: what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard the blasphemy: 26:66what think ye? They answered and said, He is worthy of death. 26:67Then did they spit in his face and buffet him: and some smote him with the palms of their hands, 26:68saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ: who is he that struck thee?
26:69Now Peter was sitting without in the court: and a maid came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilaean. 26:70But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest. 26:71And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and saith unto them that were there, This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth. 26:72And again he denied with an oath, I know not the man. 26:73And after a little while they that stood by came and said to Peter, Of a truth thou also art one of them; for thy speech maketh thee known. 26:74Then began he to curse and to swear, I know not the man. And straightway the cock crew. 26:75And Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
