2:1And the angel of Jehovah came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you: 2:2and ye shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall break down their altars. But ye have not hearkened unto my voice: why have ye done this? 2:3Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. 2:4And it came to pass, when the angel of Jehovah spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. 2:5And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto Jehovah.
2:6Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land. 2:7And the people served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of Jehovah that he had wrought for Israel. 2:8And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being a hundred and ten years old. 2:9And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash. 2:10And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, that knew not Jehovah, nor yet the work which he had wrought for Israel.
2:11And the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served the Baalim; 2:12and they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples that were round about them, and bowed themselves down unto them: and they provoked Jehovah to anger. 2:13And they forsook Jehovah, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth. 2:14And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that despoiled them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies. 2:15Whithersoever they went out, the hand of Jehovah was against them for evil, as Jehovah had spoken, and as Jehovah had sworn unto them: and they were sore distressed.
2:16And Jehovah raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those that despoiled them. 2:17And yet they hearkened not unto their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods, and bowed themselves down unto them: they turned aside quickly out of the way wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of Jehovah; but they did not so. 2:18And when Jehovah raised them up judges, then Jehovah was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented Jehovah because of their groaning by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them. 2:19But it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their doings, nor from their stubborn way. 2:20And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel; and he said, Because this nation have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice; 2:21I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations that Joshua left when he died; 2:22that by them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of Jehovah to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. 2:23So Jehovah left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.
6:1Now in these days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecian Jews against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. 6:2And the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not fit that we should forsake the word of God, and serve tables. 6:3Look ye out therefore, brethren, from among you seven men of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 6:4But we will continue stedfastly in prayer, and in the ministry of the word. 6:5And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus a proselyte of Antioch; 6:6whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands upon them. 6:7And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem exceedingly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. 6:8And Stephen, full of grace and power, wrought great wonders and signs among the people. 6:9But there arose certain of them that were of the synagogue called the synagogue of the Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and Asia, disputing with Stephen. 6:10And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake. 6:11Then they suborned men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. 6:12And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and seized him, and brought him into the council, 6:13and set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceaseth not to speak words against this holy place, and the law: 6:14for we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered unto us. 6:15And all that sat in the council, fastening their eyes on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.
15:1Then said Jehovah unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth. 15:2And it shall come to pass, when they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith Jehovah: Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for captivity, to captivity. 15:3And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith Jehovah: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the birds of the heavens, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and to destroy. 15:4And I will cause them to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem. 15:5For who will have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who will bemoan thee? or who will turn aside to ask of thy welfare? 15:6Thou hast rejected me, saith Jehovah, thou art gone backward: therefore have I stretched out my hand against thee, and destroyed thee; I am weary with repenting. 15:7And I have winnowed them with a fan in the gates of the land; I have bereaved them of children, I have destroyed my people; they returned not from their ways. 15:8Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas; I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a destroyer at noonday: I have caused anguish and terrors to fall upon her suddenly. 15:9She that hath borne seven languisheth; she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day; she hath been put to shame and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith Jehovah. 15:10Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet every one of them doth curse me. 15:11Jehovah said, Verily I will strengthen thee for good; verily I will cause the enemy to make supplication unto thee in the time of evil and in the time of affliction. 15:12Can one break iron, even iron from the north, and brass? 15:13Thy substance and thy treasures will I give for a spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders. 15:14And I will make them to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not; for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you. 15:15O Jehovah, thou knowest; remember me, and visit me, and avenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered reproach. 15:16Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy words were unto me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by thy name, O Jehovah, God of hosts. 15:17I sat not in the assembly of them that make merry, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand; for thou hast filled me with indignation. 15:18Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou indeed be unto me as a deceitful brook, as waters that fail? 15:19Therefore thus saith Jehovah, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, that thou mayest stand before me; and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: they shall return unto thee, but thou shalt not return unto them. 15:20And I will make thee unto this people a fortified brazen wall; and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith Jehovah. 15:21And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
1:1The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 1:2Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way. 1:3The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight; 1:4John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins. 1:5And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem; And they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 1:6And John was clothed with camel's hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey. 1:7And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. 1:8I baptized you in water; But he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit. 1:9And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan. 1:10And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him: 1:11And a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased. 1:12And straightway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness. 1:13And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; And he was with the wild beasts; And the angels ministered unto him. 1:14Now after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, 1:15and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel. 1:16And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishers. 1:17And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. 1:18And straightway they left the nets, and followed him. 1:19And going on a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets. 1:20And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him. 1:21And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught. 1:22And they were astonished at his teaching: For he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes. 1:23And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 1:24saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. 1:25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. 1:26And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. 1:27And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him. 1:28And the report of him went out straightway everywhere into all the region of Galilee round about. 1:29And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 1:30Now Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her: 1:31and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. 1:32And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with demons. 1:33And all the city was gathered together at the door. 1:34And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him. 1:35And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed. 1:36And Simon and they that were with him followed after him; 1:37and they found him, and say unto him, All are seeking thee. 1:38And he saith unto them, Let us go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth. 1:39And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons. 1:40And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 1:41And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean. 1:42And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean. 1:43And he strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out, 1:44and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them. 1:45But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
