Judges

5:1Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,

 5:2For that the leaders took the lead in Israel,

 For that the people offered themselves willingly,

 Bless ye Jehovah.

 5:3Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes;

 I, even I, will sing unto Jehovah;

 I will sing praise to Jehovah, the God of Israel.

 5:4Jehovah, when thou wentest forth out of Seir,

 When thou marchedst out of the field of Edom,

 The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped,

 Yea, the clouds dropped water.

 5:5The mountains quaked at the presence of Jehovah,

 Even yon Sinai at the presence of Jehovah, the God of Israel.

 5:6In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath,

 In the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied,

 And the travellers walked through byways.

 5:7The rulers ceased in Israel, they ceased,

 Until that I Deborah arose,

 That I arose a mother in Israel.

 5:8They chose new gods;

 Then was war in the gates:

 Was there a shield or spear seen

 Among forty thousand in Israel?

 5:9My heart is toward the governors of Israel,

 That offered themselves willingly among the people:

 Bless ye Jehovah.

 5:10Tell of it, ye that ride on white asses,

 Ye that sit on rich carpets,

 And ye that walk by the way.

 5:11Far from the noise of archers, in the places of drawing water,

 There shall they rehearse the righteous acts of Jehovah,

 Even the righteous acts of his rule in Israel.

 Then the people of Jehovah went down to the gates.

 5:12Awake, awake, Deborah;

 Awake, awake, utter a song:

 Arise, Barak, and lead away thy captives, thou son of Abinoam.

 5:13Then came down a remnant of the nobles and the people;

 Jehovah came down for me against the mighty.

 5:14Out of Ephraim came down they whose root is in Amalek;

 After thee, Benjamin, among thy peoples;

 Out of Machir came down governors,

 And out of Zebulun they that handle the marshal's staff.

 5:15And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah;

 As was Issachar, so was Barak;

 Into the valley they rushed forth at his feet.

 By the watercourses of Reuben

 There were great resolves of heart.

 5:16Why sattest thou among the sheepfolds,

 To hear the pipings for the flocks?

 At the watercourses of Reuben

 There were great searchings of heart.

 5:17Gilead abode beyond the Jordan:

 And Dan, why did he remain in ships?

 Asher sat still at the haven of the sea,

 And abode by his creeks.

 5:18Zebulun was a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death,

 And Naphtali, upon the high places of the field.

 5:19The kings came and fought;

 Then fought the kings of Canaan.

 In Taanach by the waters of Megiddo:

 They took no gain of money.

 5:20From heaven fought the stars,

 From their courses they fought against Sisera.

 5:21The river Kishon swept them away,

 That ancient river, the river Kishon.

 O my soul, march on with strength.

 5:22Then did the horsehoofs stamp

 By reason of the prancings, the prancings of their strong ones.

 5:23Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of Jehovah.

 Curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof,

 Because they came not to the help of Jehovah,

 To the help of Jehovah against the mighty.

 5:24Blessed above women shall Jael be,

 The wife of Heber the Kenite;

 Blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

 5:25He asked water, and she gave him milk;

 She brought him butter in a lordly dish.

 5:26She put her hand to the tent-pin,

 And her right hand to the workmen's hammer;

 And with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote through his head;

 Yea, she pierced and struck through his temples.

 5:27At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay;

 At her feet he bowed, he fell;

 Where he bowed, there he fell down dead.

 5:28Through the window she looked forth, and cried,

 The mother of Sisera cried through the lattice,

 Why is his chariot so long in coming?

 Why tarry the wheels of his chariots?

 5:29Her wise ladies answered her,

 Yea, she returned answer to herself,

 5:30Have they not found, have they not divided the spoil?

 A damsel, two damsels to every man;

 To Sisera a spoil of dyed garments,

 A spoil of dyed garments embroidered,

 Of dyed garments embroidered on both sides, on the necks of the spoil?

 5:31So let all thine enemies perish, O Jehovah:

 But let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might.

And the land had rest forty years.

The Acts of the Apostles

9:1But Saul, yet breathing threatening and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 9:2and asked of him letters to Damascus unto the synagogues, that if he found any that were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. 9:3And as he journeyed, it came to pass that he drew nigh unto Damascus: and suddenly there shone round about him a light out of heaven: 9:4and he fell upon the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 9:5And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: 9:6but rise, and enter into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. 9:7And the men that journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing the voice, but beholding no man. 9:8And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw nothing; and they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. 9:9And he was three days without sight, and did neither eat nor drink. 9:10Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and the Lord said unto him in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. 9:11And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus: for behold, he prayeth; 9:12and he hath seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight. 9:13But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he did to thy saints at Jerusalem: 9:14and here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name. 9:15But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings, and the children of Israel: 9:16for I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name's sake. 9:17And Ananias departed, and entered into the house; and laying his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared unto thee in the way which thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mayest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit. 9:18And straightway there fell from his eyes as it were scales, and he received his sight; and he arose and was baptized; 9:19and he took food and was strengthened. And he was certain days with the disciples that were at Damascus. 9:20And straightway in the synagogues he proclaimed Jesus, that he is the Son of God. 9:21And all that heard him were amazed, and said, Is not this he that in Jerusalem made havoc of them that called on this name? and he had come hither for this intent, that he might bring them bound before the chief priests. 9:22But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews that dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ. 9:23And when many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel together to kill him: 9:24but their plot became known to Saul. And they watched the gates also day and night that they might kill him: 9:25but his disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket. 9:26And when he was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: and they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple. 9:27But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus. 9:28And he was with them going in and going out at Jerusalem, 9:29preaching boldly in the name of the Lord: and he spake and disputed against the Grecian Jews; but they were seeking to kill him. 9:30And when the brethren knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus. 9:31So the church throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, being edified; and, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, was multiplied. 9:32And it came to pass, as Peter went throughout all parts, he came down also to the saints that dwelt at Lydda. 9:33And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had kept his bed eight years; for he was palsied. 9:34And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ healeth thee: arise and make thy bed. And straightway he arose. 9:35And all that dwelt at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord. 9:36Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. 9:37And it came to pass in those days, that she fell sick, and died: and when they had washed her, they laid her in an upper chamber. 9:38And as Lydda was nigh unto Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men unto him, entreating him, Delay not to come on unto us. 9:39And Peter arose and went with them. And when he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. 9:40But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down and prayed; and turning to the body, he said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes; and when she saw Peter, she sat up. 9:41And he gave her his hand, and raised her up; and calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. 9:42And it became known throughout all Joppa: and many believed on the Lord. 9:43And it came to pass, that he abode many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner.

Jeremiah

18:1The word which came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying, 18:2Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 18:3Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he was making a work on the wheels. 18:4And when the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. 18:5Then the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, 18:6O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith Jehovah. Behold, as the clay in the potter's hand, so are ye in my hand, O house of Israel. 18:7At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it; 18:8if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them. 18:9And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 18:10if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them. 18:11Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings. 18:12But they say, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart. 18:13Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Ask ye now among the nations, who hath heard such things; the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing. 18:14Shall the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? or shall the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up? 18:15For my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to false gods; and they have been made to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in bypaths, in a way not cast up; 18:16to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head. 18:17I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity. 18:18Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words. 18:19Give heed to me, O Jehovah, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me. 18:20Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them. 18:21Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives become childless, and widows; and let their men be slain of death, and their young men smitten of the sword in battle. 18:22Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them; for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet. 18:23Yet, Jehovah, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me; forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight; but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thou with them in the time of thine anger.

Mark

4:1And again he began to teach by the sea side. And there is gathered unto him a very great multitude, so that he entered into a boat, and sat in the sea; and all the multitude were by the sea on the land. 4:2And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his teaching, 4:3Hearken: Behold, the sower went forth to sow: 4:4and it came to pass, as he sowed, some seed fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured it. 4:5And other fell on the rocky ground, where it had not much earth; and straightway it sprang up, because it had no deepness of earth: 4:6and when the sun was risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. 4:7And other fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. 4:8And others fell into the good ground, and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing; and brought forth, thirtyfold, and sixtyfold, and a hundredfold. 4:9And he said, Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. 4:10And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parables. 4:11And he said unto them, Unto you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all things are done in parables: 4:12that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest haply they should turn again, and it should be forgiven them. 4:13And he saith unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how shall ye know all the parables? 4:14The sower soweth the word. 4:15And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; and when they have heard, straightway cometh Satan, and taketh away the word which hath been sown in them. 4:16And these in like manner are they that are sown upon the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, straightway receive it with joy; 4:17and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway they stumble. 4:18And others are they that are sown among the thorns; these are they that have heard the word, 4:19and the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. 4:20And those are they that were sown upon the good ground; such as hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, thirtyfold, and sixtyfold, and a hundredfold. 4:21And he said unto them, Is the lamp brought to be put under the bushel, or under the bed, and not to be put on the stand? 4:22For there is nothing hid, save that it should be manifested; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light. 4:23If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear. 4:24And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete it shall be measured unto you; and more shall be given unto you. 4:25For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. 4:26And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed upon the earth; 4:27and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he knoweth not how. 4:28The earth beareth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 4:29But when the fruit is ripe, straightway he putteth forth the sickle, because the harvest is come. 4:30And he said, How shall we liken the kingdom of God? or in what parable shall we set it forth? 4:31It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown upon the earth, though it be less than all the seeds that are upon the earth, 4:32yet when it is sown, groweth up, and becometh greater than all the herbs, and putteth out great branches; so that the birds of the heaven can lodge under the shadow thereof. 4:33And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it; 4:34and without a parable spake he not unto them: but privately to his own disciples he expounded all things. 4:35And on that day, when even was come, he saith unto them, Let us go over unto the other side. 4:36And leaving the multitude, they take him with them, even as he was, in the boat. And other boats were with him. 4:37And there ariseth a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the boat, insomuch that the boat was now filling. 4:38And he himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion: and they awake him, and say unto him, Teacher, carest thou not that we perish? 4:39And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 4:40And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful? have ye not yet faith? 4:41And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
