Judges

7:1Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and encamped beside the spring of Harod: and the camp of Midian was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

7:2And Jehovah said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me. 7:3Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and depart from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

7:4And Jehovah said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go. 7:5So he brought down the people unto the water: and Jehovah said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink. 7:6And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water. 7:7And Jehovah said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand; and let all the people go every man unto his place. 7:8So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets; and he sent all the men of Israel every man unto his tent, but retained the three hundred men: and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

7:9And it came to pass the same night, that Jehovah said unto him, Arise, get thee down into the camp; for I have delivered it into thy hand. 7:10But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Purah thy servant down to the camp: 7:11and thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thy hands be strengthened to go down into the camp. Then went he down with Purah his servant unto the outermost part of the armed men that were in the camp. 7:12And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand which is upon the sea-shore for multitude. 7:13And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man telling a dream unto his fellow; and he said, Behold, I dreamed a dream; and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, and came unto the tent, and smote it so that it fell, and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat. 7:14And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: into his hand God hath delivered Midian, and all the host.

7:15And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped; and he returned into the camp of Israel, and said, Arise; for Jehovah hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian. 7:16And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put into the hands of all of them trumpets, and empty pitchers, with torches within the pitchers. 7:17And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outermost part of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do. 7:18When I blow the trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, For Jehovah and for Gideon.

7:19So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands. 7:20And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands wherewith to blow; and they cried, The sword of Jehovah and of Gideon. 7:21And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran; and they shouted, and put them to flight. 7:22And they blew the three hundred trumpets, and Jehovah set every man's sword against his fellow, and against all the host; and the host fled as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath. 7:23And the men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after Midian.

7:24And Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill-country of Ephraim, saying, Come down against Midian, and take before them the waters, as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan. So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and took the waters as far as Beth-barah, even the Jordan. 7:25And they took the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian: and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.

The Acts of the Apostles

11:1Now the apostles and the brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 11:2And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him, 11:3saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. 11:4But Peter began, and expounded the matter unto them in order, saying, 11:5I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain vessel descending, as it were a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even unto me: 11:6upon which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw the fourfooted beasts of the earth and wild beasts and creeping things and birds of the heaven. 11:7And I heard also a voice saying unto me, Rise, Peter; kill and eat. 11:8But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath ever entered into my mouth. 11:9But a voice answered the second time out of heaven, What God hath cleansed, make not thou common. 11:10And this was done thrice: and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11:11And behold, forthwith three men stood before the house in which we were, having been sent from Caesarea unto me. 11:12And the Spirit bade me go with them, making no distinction. And these six brethren also accompanied me; and we entered into the man's house: 11:13and he told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, Send to Joppa, and fetch Simon, whose surname is Peter; 11:14who shall speak unto thee words, whereby thou shalt be saved, thou and all thy house. 11:15And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning. 11:16And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit. 11:17If then God gave unto them the like gift as he did also unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God? 11:18And when they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then to the Gentiles also hath God granted repentance unto life. 11:19They therefore that were scattered abroad upon the tribulation that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phoenicia, and Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to none save only to Jews. 11:20But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. 11:21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number that believed turned unto the Lord. 11:22And the report concerning them came to the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas as far as Antioch: 11:23who, when he was come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad; and he exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord: 11:24for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord. 11:25And he went forth to Tarsus to seek for Saul; 11:26and when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that even for a whole year they were gathered together with the church, and taught much people, and that the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. 11:27Now in these days there came down prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. 11:28And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be a great famine over all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius. 11:29And the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren that dwelt in Judea: 11:30which also they did, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.

Jeremiah

20:1Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. 20:2Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah. 20:3And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, Jehovah hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib. 20:4For thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. 20:5Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the precious things thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon. 20:6And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely. 20:7O Jehovah, thou hast persuaded me, and I was persuaded; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me. 20:8For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day. 20:9And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot contain. 20:10For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. 20:11But Jehovah is with me as a mighty one and a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten. 20:12But, O Jehovah of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause. 20:13Sing unto Jehovah, praise ye Jehovah; for he hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers. 20:14Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed. 20:15Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man-child is born unto thee; making him very glad. 20:16And let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime; 20:17because he slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great. 20:18Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

Mark

6:1And he went out from thence; and he cometh into his own country; and his disciples follow him. 6:2And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things? and, What is the wisdom that is given unto this man, and what mean such mighty works wrought by his hands? 6:3Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended in him. 6:4And Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 6:5And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. 6:6And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages teaching. 6:7And he calleth unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits; 6:8and he charged them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no bread, no wallet, now money in their purse; 6:9but to go shod with sandals: and, said he, put not on two coats. 6:10And he said unto them, Wheresoever ye enter into a house, there abide till ye depart thence. 6:11And whatsoever place shall not receive you, and they hear you not, as ye go forth thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony unto them. 6:12And they went out, and preached that men should repent. 6:13And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. 6:14And king Herod heard thereof; for his name had become known: and he said, John the Baptizer is risen from the dead, and therefore do these powers work in him. 6:15But others said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is a prophet, even as one of the prophets. 6:16But Herod, when he heard thereof, said, John, whom I beheaded, he is risen. 6:17For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife; for he had married her. 6:18For John said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife. 6:19And Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him; and she could not; 6:20for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed; and he heard him gladly. 6:21And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, and the high captains, and the chief men of Galilee; 6:22and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and them that sat at meat with him; and the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. 6:23And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom. 6:24And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptizer. 6:25And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou forthwith give me on a platter the head of John the Baptist. 6:26And the king was exceeding sorry; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat, he would not reject her. 6:27And straightway the king sent forth a soldier of his guard, and commanded to bring his head: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, 6:28and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel gave it to her mother. 6:29And when his disciples heard thereof, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb. 6:30And the apostles gather themselves together unto Jesus; and they told him all things, whatsoever they had done, and whatsoever they had taught. 6:31And he saith unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while. For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. 6:32And they went away in the boat to a desert place apart. 6:33And the people saw them going, and many knew them, and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent them. 6:34And he came forth and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. 6:35And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, The place is desert, and the day is now far spent; 6:36send them away, that they may go into the country and villages round about, and buy themselves somewhat to eat. 6:37But he answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred shillings' worth of bread, and give them to eat? 6:38And he saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. 6:39And he commanded them that all should sit down by companies upon the green grass. 6:40And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. 6:41And he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake the loaves; and he gave to the disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. 6:42And they all ate, and were filled. 6:43And they took up broken pieces, twelve basketfuls, and also of the fishes. 6:44And they that ate the loaves were five thousand men. 6:45And straightway he constrained his disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side to Bethsaida, while he himself sendeth the multitude away. 6:46And after he had taken leave of them, he departed into the mountain to pray. 6:47And when even was come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. 6:48And seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them, about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking on the sea; and he would have passed by them: 6:49but they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out; 6:50for they all saw him, and were troubled. But he straightway spake with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. 6:51And he went up unto them into the boat; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves; 6:52for they understood not concerning the loaves, but their heart was hardened. 6:53And when they had crossed over, they came to the land unto Gennesaret, and moored to the shore. 6:54And when they were come out of the boat, straightway the people knew him, 6:55and ran round about that whole region, and began to carry about on their beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. 6:56And wheresoever he entered, into villages, or into cities, or into the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
