5:1And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and observe to do them. 5:2Jehovah our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. 5:3Jehovah made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. 5:4Jehovah spake with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire, 5:5(I stood between Jehovah and you at that time, to show you the word of Jehovah: for ye were afraid because of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
5:6I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
5:7Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
5:8Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5:9thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I, Jehovah, thy God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me; 5:10and showing lovingkindness unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
5:11Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain: for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
5:12Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Jehovah thy God commanded thee. 5:13Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; 5:14but the seventh day is a sabbath unto Jehovah thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy man-servant and thy maid-servant may rest as well as thou. 5:15And thou shalt remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah thy God brought thee out thence by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm: therefore Jehovah thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
5:16Honor thy father and thy mother, as Jehovah thy God commanded thee; that thy days may be long, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.
5:17Thou shalt not kill.
5:18Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
5:19Neither shalt thou steal.
5:20Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.
5:21Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor's wife; neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor's house, his field, or his man-servant, or his maid-servant, his ox, or his ass, or anything that is thy neighbor's.
5:22These words Jehovah spake unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice: and he added no more. And he wrote them upon two tables of stone, and gave them unto me. 5:23And it came to pass, when ye heard the voice out of the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was burning with fire, that ye came near unto me, even all the heads of your tribes, and your elders; 5:24and ye said, Behold, Jehovah our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth speak with man, and he liveth. 5:25Now therefore why should we die? for this great fire will consume us: if we hear the voice of Jehovah our God any more, then we shall die. 5:26For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived? 5:27Go thou near, and hear all that Jehovah our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that Jehovah our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.
5:28And Jehovah heard the voice of your words, when ye spake unto me; and Jehovah said unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken unto thee: they have well said all that they have spoken. 5:29Oh that there were such a heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! 5:30Go say to them, Return ye to your tents. 5:31But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it. 5:32Ye shall observe to do therefore as Jehovah your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 5:33Ye shall walk in all the way which Jehovah your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
A Song, a Psalm of the sons of Korah; for the Chief Musician; set to Mahalath *Leannoth. Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite.
88:1O Jehovah, the God of my salvation,
I have cried day and night before thee.
88:2Let my prayer enter into thy presence;
Incline thine ear unto my cry.
88:3For my soul is full of troubles,
And my life draweth nigh unto Sheol.
88:4I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit;
I am as a man that hath no help,
Like the slain that lie in the grave,
Whom thou rememberest no more,
And they are cut off from thy hand.
88:6Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit,
In dark places, in the deeps.
88:7Thy wrath lieth hard upon me,
And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves.
Selah
88:8Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me;
Thou hast made me an abomination unto them:
I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
88:9Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction:
I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah;
I have spread forth my hands unto thee.
88:10Wilt thou show wonders to the dead?
Shall *they that are decreased arise and praise thee?
Selah
88:11Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave?
Or thy faithfulness in *Destruction?
88:12Shall thy wonders be known in the dark?
And thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
88:13But unto thee, O Jehovah, have I cried;
And in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.
88:14Jehovah, why castest thou off my soul?
Why hidest thou thy face from me?
88:15I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up:
While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
88:16Thy fierce wrath is gone over me;
Thy terrors have cut me off.
88:17They came round about me like water all the day long;
They compassed me about together.
88:18Lover and friend hast thou put far from me,
And mine acquaintance *into darkness.
33:1Woe to thee that destroyest, and thou wast not destroyed; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! When thou hast ceased to destroy, thou shalt be destroyed; and when thou hast made an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee. 33:2O Jehovah, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou our arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble. 33:3At the noise of the tumult the peoples are fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations are scattered. 33:4And your spoil shall be gathered as the caterpillar gathereth: as locusts leap shall men leap upon it. 33:5Jehovah is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness. 33:6And there shall be stability in thy times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge: the fear of Jehovah is thy treasure. 33:7Behold, their valiant ones cry without; the ambassadors of peace weep bitterly. 33:8The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: the enemy hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth not man. 33:9The land mourneth and languisheth; Lebanon is confounded and withereth away; Sharon is like a desert; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves. 33:10Now will I arise, saith Jehovah; now will I lift up myself; now will I be exalted. 33:11Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath is a fire that shall devour you. 33:12And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime, as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire. 33:13Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might. 33:14The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling hath seized the godless ones: Who among us can dwell with the devouring fire? who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings? 33:15He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking a bribe, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil: 33:16He shall dwell on high; his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks; his bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. 33:17Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold a land that reacheth afar. 33:18Thy heart shall muse on the terror: Where is he that counted, where is he that weighed the tribute? where is he that counted the towers? 33:19Thou shalt not see the fierce people, a people of a deep speech that thou canst not comprehend, of a strange tongue that thou canst not understand. 33:20Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tent that shall not be removed, the stakes whereof shall never be plucked up, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. 33:21But there Jehovah will be with us in majesty, a place of broad rivers and streams, wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. 33:22For Jehovah is our judge, Jehovah is our lawgiver, Jehovah is our king; he will save us. 33:23Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not strengthen the foot of their mast, they could not spread the sail: then was the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame took the prey. 33:24And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.
3:1And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and thou art dead. 3:2Be thou watchful, and establish the things that remain, which were ready to die: for I have found no works of thine perfected before my God. 3:3Remember therefore how thou hast received and didst hear; and keep it, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. 3:4But thou hast a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments: and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy. 3:5He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. 3:6He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. 3:7And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth and none shall shut, and that shutteth and none openeth: 3:8I know thy works (behold, I have set before thee a door opened, which none can shut), that thou hast a little power, and didst keep my word, and didst not deny my name. 3:9Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, of them that say they are Jews, and they are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. 3:10Because thou didst keep the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that hour which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 3:11I come quickly: hold fast that which thou hast, that no one take thy crown. 3:12He that overcometh, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go out thence no more: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God, and mine own new name. 3:13He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. 3:14And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God: 3:15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 3:16So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth. 3:17Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked: 3:18I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see. 3:19As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 3:20Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 3:21He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne. 3:22He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
