Deuteronomy

27:1And Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, Keep all the commandment which I command you this day. 27:2And it shall be on the day when ye shall pass over the Jordan unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, that thou shalt set thee up great stones, and plaster them with plaster: 27:3and thou shalt write upon them all the words of this law, when thou art passed over; that thou mayest go in unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, hath promised thee. 27:4And it shall be, when ye are passed over the Jordan, that ye shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in mount Ebal, and thou shalt plaster them with plaster. 27:5And there shalt thou build an altar unto Jehovah thy God, an altar of stones: thou shalt lift up no iron tool upon them. 27:6Thou shalt build the altar of Jehovah thy God of unhewn stones; and thou shalt offer burnt-offerings thereon unto Jehovah thy God: 27:7and thou shalt sacrifice peace-offerings, and shalt eat there; and thou shalt rejoice before Jehovah thy God. 27:8And thou shalt write upon the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

27:9And Moses and the priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying, Keep silence, and hearken, O Israel: this day thou art become the people of Jehovah thy God. 27:10Thou shalt therefore obey the voice of Jehovah thy God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command thee this day.

27:11And Moses charged the people the same day, saying, 27:12These shall stand upon mount Gerizim to bless the people, when ye are passed over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin. 27:13And these shall stand upon mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 27:14And the Levites shall answer, and say unto all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

27:15Cursed be the man that maketh a graven or molten image, an abomination unto Jehovah, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and setteth it up in secret. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

27:16Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:17Cursed be he that removeth his neighbor's landmark. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:18Cursed be he that maketh the blind to wander out of the way. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:19Cursed be he that wresteth the justice due to the sojourner, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:20Cursed be he that lieth with his father's wife, because he hath uncovered his father's skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:21Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:22Cursed be he that lieth with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:23Cursed be he that lieth with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:24Cursed be he that smiteth his neighbor in secret. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:25Cursed be he that taketh a bribe to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen.

27:26Cursed be he that confirmeth not the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

28:1And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to observe to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that Jehovah thy God will set thee on high above all the nations of the earth: 28:2and all these blessings shall come upon thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God. 28:3Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. 28:4Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy beasts, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock. 28:5Blessed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough. 28:6Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

28:7Jehovah will cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thee: they shall come out against thee one way, and shall flee before thee seven ways. 28:8Jehovah will command the blessing upon thee in thy barns, and in all that thou puttest thy hand unto; and he will bless thee in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee. 28:9Jehovah will establish thee for a holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee; if thou shalt keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, and walk in his ways. 28:10And all the peoples of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of Jehovah; and they shall be afraid of thee. 28:11And Jehovah will make thee plenteous for good, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers to give thee. 28:12Jehovah will open unto thee his good treasure the heavens, to give the rain of thy land in its season, and to bless all the work of thy hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. 28:13And Jehovah will make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if thou shalt hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them, 28:14and shalt not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

28:15But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day, that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee. 28:16Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field. 28:17Cursed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough. 28:18Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock. 28:19Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

Psalms

*ALEPH.

 119:1Blessed are they that are *perfect in the way,

 Who walk in the law of Jehovah.

 119:2Blessed are they that keep his testimonies,

 That seek him with the whole heart.

 119:3Yea, they do no unrighteousness;

 They walk in his ways.

 119:4Thou hast commanded us thy precepts,

 That we should observe them diligently.

 119:5Oh that my ways were established

 To observe thy statutes!

 119:6Then shall I not be put to shame,

 When I have respect unto all thy commandments.

 119:7I will give thanks unto thee with uprightness of heart,

 When I learn thy righteous judgments.

 119:8I will observe thy statutes:

 Oh forsake me not utterly.

BETH.

 119:9Wherewith shall a young man cleanse his way?

 By taking heed thereto according to thy word.

 119:10With my whole heart have I sought thee:

 Oh let me not wander from thy commandments.

 119:11Thy word have I laid up in my heart,

 That I might not sin against thee.

 119:12Blessed art thou, O Jehovah:

 Teach me thy statutes.

 119:13With my lips have I declared

 All the ordinances of thy mouth.

 119:14I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies,

 As much as in all riches.

 119:15I will meditate on thy precepts,

 And have respect unto thy ways.

 119:16I will delight myself in thy statutes:

 I will not forget thy word.

GIMEL.

 119:17Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live;

 So will I observe thy word.

 119:18Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold

 Wondrous things out of thy law.

 119:19I am a sojourner in the earth:

 Hide not thy commandments from me.

 119:20My soul breaketh for the longing

 That it hath unto thine ordinances at all times.

 119:21Thou hast rebuked the proud *that are cursed,

 That do wander from thy commandments.

 119:22Take away from me reproach and contempt;

 For I have kept thy testimonies.

 119:23Princes also sat and talked against me;

 But thy servant did meditate on thy statutes.

 119:24Thy testimonies also are my delight

 And *my counsellors.

Isaiah

54:1Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith Jehovah. 54:2Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thy habitations; spare not: lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes. 54:3For thou shalt spread aboard on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall possess the nations, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. 54:4Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth; and the reproach of thy widowhood shalt thou remember no more. 54:5For thy Maker is thy husband; Jehovah of hosts is his name: and the Holy One of Israel is thy Redeemer; the God of the whole earth shall he be called. 54:6For Jehovah hath called thee as a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, even a wife of youth, when she is cast off, saith thy God. 54:7For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. 54:8In overflowing wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting lovingkindness will I have mercy on thee, saith Jehovah thy Redeemer. 54:9For this is as the waters of Noah unto me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah shall no more go over the earth, so have I sworn that I will not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. 54:10For the mountains may depart, and the hills be removed; but my lovingkindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall my covenant of peace be removed, saith Jehovah that hath mercy on thee. 54:11O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will set thy stones in fair colors, and lay thy foundations with sapphires. 54:12And I will make thy pinnacles of rubies, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy border of precious stones. 54:13And all thy children shall be taught of Jehovah; and great shall be the peace of thy children. 54:14In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression, for thou shalt not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near thee. 54:15Behold, they may gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall because of thee. 54:16Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the fire of coals, and bringeth forth a weapon for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. 54:17No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of Jehovah, and their righteousness which is of me, saith Jehovah.

Matthew

2:1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, 2:2Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 2:3And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 2:4And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born. 2:5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written through the prophet,

 2:6And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah,

 Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah:

 For out of thee shall come forth a governor,

 Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.

2:7Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared. 2:8And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him. 2:9And they, having heard the king, went their way; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. 2:10And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 2:11And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother; and they fell down and worshipped him; and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. 2:12And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

2:13Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 2:14And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt; 2:15and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son.

2:16Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the Wise-men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the Wise-men. 2:17Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

 2:18A voice was heard in Ramah,

 Weeping and great mourning,

 Rachel weeping for her children;

 And she would not be comforted, because they are not.

2:19But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, 2:20Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead that sought the young child's life. 2:21And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. 2:22But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; and being warned of God in a dream, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee, 2:23and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.
