29:1These are the words of the covenant which Jehovah commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
29:2And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that Jehovah did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land; 29:3the great trials which thine eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders: 29:4but Jehovah hath not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day. 29:5And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxed old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxed old upon thy foot. 29:6Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink; that ye may know that I am Jehovah your God. 29:7And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them: 29:8and we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites. 29:9Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
29:10Ye stand this day all of you before Jehovah your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel, 29:11your little ones, your wives, and thy sojourner that is in the midst of thy camps, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water; 29:12that thou mayest enter into the covenant of Jehovah thy God, and into his oath, which Jehovah thy God maketh with thee this day; 29:13that he may establish thee this day unto himself for a people, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he spake unto thee, and as he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
29:14Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath, 29:15but with him that standeth here with us this day before Jehovah our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day 29:16(for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which ye passed; 29:17and ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them); 29:18lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from Jehovah our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood; 29:19and it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry. 29:20Jehovah will not pardon him, but then the anger of Jehovah and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and Jehovah will blot out his name from under heaven. 29:21And Jehovah will set him apart unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.
29:22And the generation to come, your children that shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses wherewith Jehovah hath made it sick; 29:23and that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: 29:24even all the nations shall say, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger? 29:25Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, 29:26and went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods that they knew not, and that he had not given unto them: 29:27therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book; 29:28and Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day. 29:29The secret things belong unto Jehovah our God; but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
ZAYIN.
119:49Remember the word unto thy servant,
Because thou hast made me to hope.
119:50This is my comfort in my affliction;
*For thy word hath quickened me.
119:51The proud have had me greatly in derision:
Yet have I not swerved from thy law.
119:52I have remembered thine ordinances of old, O Jehovah,
And have comforted myself.
119:53 *Hot indignation hath taken hold upon me,
Because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
119:54Thy statutes have been my songs
In the house of my pilgrimage.
119:55I have remembered thy name, O Jehovah, in the night,
And have observed thy law.
119:56This I have had,
*Because I have kept thy precepts.
HHETH.
119:57 *Jehovah is my portion:
I have said that I would observe thy words.
119:58I entreated thy favor with my whole heart:
Be merciful unto me according to thy word.
119:59I thought on my ways,
And turned my feet unto thy testimonies.
119:60I made haste, and delayed not,
To observe thy commandments.
119:61The cords of the wicked have wrapped me round;
But I have not forgotten thy law.
119:62At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee
Because of thy righteous ordinances.
119:63I am a companion of all them that fear thee,
And of them that observe thy precepts.
119:64The earth, O Jehovah, is full of thy lovingkindness:
Teach me thy statutes.
TETH.
119:65Thou hast dealt well with thy servant,
O Jehovah, according unto thy word.
119:66Teach me good judgment and knowledge;
For I have believed in thy commandments.
119:67Before I was afflicted I went astray;
But now I observe thy word.
119:68Thou art good, and doest good;
Teach me thy statutes.
119:69The proud have forged a lie against me:
With my whole heart will I keep thy precepts.
119:70Their heart is as fat as grease;
But I delight in thy law.
119:71It is good for me that I have been afflicted;
That I may learn thy statutes.
119:72The law of thy mouth is better unto me
Than thousands of gold and silver.
56:1Thus saith Jehovah, Keep ye justice, and do righteousness; for my salvation is near to come, and my righteousness to be revealed. 56:2Blessed is the man that doeth this, and the son of man that holdeth it fast; that keepeth the sabbath from profaning it, and keepeth his hand from doing any evil. 56:3Neither let the foreigner, that hath joined himself to Jehovah, speak, saying, Jehovah will surely separate me from his people; neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree. 56:4For thus saith Jehovah of the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and hold fast my covenant: 56:5Unto them will I give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name better than of sons and of daughters; I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. 56:6Also the foreigners that join themselves to Jehovah, to minister unto him, and to love the name of Jehovah, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from profaning it, and holdeth fast my covenant; 56:7even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt-offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples. 56:8The Lord Jehovah, who gathereth the outcasts of Israel, saith, Yet will I gather others to him, besides his own that are gathered. 56:9All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest. 56:10His watchmen are blind, they are all without knowledge; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber. 56:11Yea, the dogs are greedy, they can never have enough; and these are shepherds that cannot understand: they have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter. 56:12Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to-morrow shall be as this day, a day great beyond measure.
4:1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 4:2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he afterward hungered. 4:3And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread. 4:4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 4:5Then the devil taketh him into the holy city; and he set him on the pinnacle of the temple, 4:6and saith unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written,
He shall give his angels charge concerning thee:
and,
On their hands they shall bear thee up,
Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.
4:7Jesus said unto him, Again it is written, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God. 4:8Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 4:9and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 4:10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 4:11Then the devil leaveth him; and behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
4:12Now when he heard that John was delivered up, he withdrew into Galilee; 4:13and leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali: 4:14that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
4:15The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali,
Toward the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles,
4:16The people that sat in darkness
Saw a great light,
And to them that sat in the region and shadow of death,
To them did light spring up.
4:17From that time began Jesus to preach, and to say, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
4:18And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw two brethren, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishers. 4:19And he saith unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you fishers of men. 4:20And they straightway left the nets, and followed him. 4:21And going on from thence he saw two other brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. 4:22And they straightway left the boat and their father, and followed him.
4:23And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people. 4:24And the report of him went forth into all Syria: and they brought unto him all that were sick, holden with divers diseases and torments, possessed with demons, and epileptic, and palsied; and he healed them. 4:25And there followed him great multitudes from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and from beyond the Jordan.
