Joshua

2:1And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and Jericho. And they went and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and lay there. 2:2And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to-night of the children of Israel to search out the land. 2:3And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, that are entered into thy house; for they are come to search out all the land. 2:4And the woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said, Yea, the men came unto me, but I knew not whence they were: 2:5and it came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out; whither the men went I know not: pursue after them quickly; for ye will overtake them. 2:6But she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. 2:7And the men pursued after them the way to the Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they that pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

2:8And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof; 2:9and she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah hath given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. 2:10For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. 2:11And as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath. 2:12Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by Jehovah, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token; 2:13and that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death. 2:14And the men said unto her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business; and it shall be, when Jehovah giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

2:15Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the side of the wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. 2:16And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light upon you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. 2:17And the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. 2:18Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household. 2:19And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we shall be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. 2:20But if thou utter this our business, then we shall be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. 2:21And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

2:22And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not. 2:23Then the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them. 2:24And they said unto Joshua, Truly Jehovah hath delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us.

Psalms

*

A Song of Ascents.

 123:1Unto thee do I lift up mine eyes,

 O thou that sittest in the heavens.

 123:2Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their master,

 As the eyes of a maid unto the hand of her mistress;

 So our eyes look unto Jehovah our God,

 Until he have mercy upon us.

 123:3Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us;

 For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

 123:4Our soul is exceedingly filled

 With the scoffing of those that are at ease,

 And with the contempt of the proud.

Psalm 124

A Song of Ascents; of David.

 124:1If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side,

 Let Israel now say,

 124:2If it had not been Jehovah who was on our side,

 When men rose up against us;

 124:3Then they had swallowed us up alive,

 When their wrath was kindled against us;

 124:4Then the waters had overwhelmed us,

 The stream had gone over our soul;

 124:5Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

 124:6Blessed be Jehovah,

 Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

 124:7Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers:

 The snare is broken, and we are escaped.

 124:8Our help is in the name of Jehovah,

 Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 125

A Song of Ascents.

 125:1They that trust in Jehovah

 Are as mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abideth for ever.

 125:2As the mountains are round about Jerusalem,

 So Jehovah is round about his people

 From this time forth and for evermore.

 125:3For the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous;

 That the righteous put not forth their hands unto iniquity.

 125:4Do good, O Jehovah, unto those that are good,

 And to them that are upright in their hearts.

 125:5But as for such as turn aside unto their crooked ways,

 Jehovah will lead them forth with the workers of iniquity.

 Peace be upon Israel.

Isaiah

62:1For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness go forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burneth. 62:2And the nations shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory, and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of Jehovah shall name. 62:3Thou shalt also be a crown of beauty in the hand of Jehovah, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God. 62:4Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzi-bah, and thy land Beulah; for Jehovah delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married. 62:5For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee; and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee. 62:6I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that are Jehovah's remembrancers, take ye no rest, 62:7and give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth. 62:8Jehovah hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy grain to be food for thine enemies; and foreigners shall not drink thy new wine, for which thou hast labored: 62:9but they that have garnered it shall eat it, and praise Jehovah; and they that have gathered it shall drink it in the courts of my sanctuary. 62:10Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up an ensign for the peoples. 62:11Behold, Jehovah hath proclaimed unto the end of the earth, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 62:12And they shall call them The holy people, The redeemed of Jehovah: and thou shalt be called Sought out, A city not forsaken.

Matthew

10:1And he called unto him his twelve disciples, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of disease and all manner of sickness.

10:2Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 10:3Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 10:4Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

10:5These twelve Jesus sent forth, and charged them, saying, Go not into any way of the Gentiles, and enter not into any city of the Samaritans: 10:6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 10:7And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 10:8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons: freely ye received, freely give. 10:9Get you no gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses; 10:10no wallet for your journey, neither two coats, nor shoes, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food. 10:11And into whatsoever city or village ye shall enter, search out who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go forth. 10:12And as ye enter into the house, salute it. 10:13And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 10:14And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go forth out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet. 10:15Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

10:16Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 10:17But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in theirs synagogues they will scourge you; 10:18yea and before governors and kings shall ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. 10:19But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak. 10:20For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father that speaketh in you. 10:21And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child: and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. 10:22And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. 10:23But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

10:24A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord. 10:25It is enough for the disciple that he be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more them of his household! 10:26Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 10:27What I tell you in the darkness, speak ye in the light; and what ye hear in the ear, proclaim upon the house-tops. 10:28And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 10:29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? and not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father: 10:30but the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 10:31Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. 10:32Every one therefore who shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father who is in heaven. 10:33But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father who is in heaven.

10:34Think not that I came to send peace on the earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 10:35For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law: 10:36and a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 10:37He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 10:38And he that doth not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me. 10:39He that findeth his life shall lose it; and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

10:40He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. 10:41He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward: and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. 10:42And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you he shall in no wise lose his reward.
