20:1And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. 20:2And there was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. 20:3And the people strove with Moses, and spake, saying, Would that we had died when our brethren died before Jehovah! 20:4And why have ye brought the assembly of Jehovah into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our beasts? 20:5And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink. 20:6And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tent of meeting, and fell upon their faces: and the glory of Jehovah appeared unto them. 20:7And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 20:8Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock; so thou shalt give the congregation and their cattle drink. 20:9And Moses took the rod from before Jehovah, as he commanded him.
20:10And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; shall we bring you forth water out of this rock? 20:11And Moses lifted up his hand, and smote the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their cattle. 20:12And Jehovah said unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed not in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them. 20:13These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Jehovah, and he was sanctified in them.
20:14And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us: 20:15how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathers: 20:16and when we cried unto Jehovah, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border. 20:17Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy land: we will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go along the king's highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy border. 20:18And Edom said unto him, Thou shalt not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against thee. 20:19And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of thy water, I and my cattle, then will I give the price thereof: let me only, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet. 20:20And he said, Thou shalt not pass through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand. 20:21Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
20:22And they journeyed from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came unto mount Hor. 20:23And Jehovah spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying, 20:24Aaron shall be gathered unto his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah. 20:25Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor; 20:26and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there. 20:27And Moses did as Jehovah commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. 20:28And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount. 20:29And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of David. Michtam.
58:1Do ye indeed in silence speak righteousness?
Do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
58:2Nay, in heart ye work wickedness;
Ye weigh out the violence of your hands in the earth.
58:3The wicked are estranged from the womb:
They go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.
58:4Their poison is like the poison of a serpent:
They are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear,
58:5Which hearkeneth not to the voice of charmers,
Charming never so wisely.
58:6Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth:
Break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Jehovah.
58:7Let them melt away as water that runneth apace:
When he aimeth his arrows, let them be as though they were cut off.
58:8Let them be as a snail which melteth and passeth away,
Like the untimely birth of a woman, that hath not seen the sun.
58:9Before your pots can feel the thorns,
He will take them away with a whirlwind, the green and the burning alike.
58:10The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance:
He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked;
58:11So that men shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous:
Verily there is a God that judgeth in the earth.
For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tashheth. A Psalm of David. Michtam; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.
59:1Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God:
Set me on high from them that rise up against me.
59:2Deliver me from the workers of iniquity,
And save me from the bloodthirsty men.
59:3For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul;
The mighty gather themselves together against me:
Not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O Jehovah.
59:4They run and prepare themselves without my fault:
Awake thou to help me, and behold.
59:5Even thou, O Jehovah God of hosts, the God of Israel,
Arise to visit all the nations:
Be not merciful to any wicked transgressors.
Selah
59:6They return at evening, they howl like a dog,
And go round about the city.
59:7Behold, they belch out with their mouth;
Swords are in their lips:
For who, say they, doth hear?
59:8But thou, O Jehovah, wilt laugh at them;
Thou wilt have all the nations in derision.
59:9Because of his strength I will give heed unto thee;
For God is my high tower.
59:10My God with his lovingkindness will meet me:
God will let me see my desire upon mine enemies.
59:11Slay them not, lest my people forget:
Scatter them by thy power, and bring them down,
O Lord our shield.
59:12For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips,
Let them even be taken in their pride,
And for cursing and lying which they speak.
59:13Consume them in wrath, consume them, so that they shall be no more:
And let them know that God ruleth in Jacob,
Unto the ends of the earth.
Selah
59:14And at evening let them return, let them howl like a dog,
And go round about the city.
59:15They shall wander up and down for food,
And tarry all night if they be not satisfied.
59:16But I will sing of thy strength;
Yea, I will sing aloud of thy lovingkindness in the morning:
For thou hast been my high tower,
And a refuge in the day of my distress.
59:17Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing praises:
For God is my high tower, the God of my mercy.
9:8The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel. 9:9And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in pride and in stoutness of heart, 9:10The bricks are fallen, but we will build with hewn stone; the sycomores are cut down, but we will put cedars in their place. 9:11Therefore Jehovah will set up on high against him the adversaries of Rezin, and will stir up his enemies, 9:12the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. 9:13Yet the people have not turned unto him that smote them, neither have they sought Jehovah of hosts. 9:14Therefore Jehovah will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm-branch and rush, in one day. 9:15The elder and the honorable man, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. 9:16For they that lead this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed. 9:17Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is profane and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. 9:18For wickedness burneth as the fire; it devoureth the briers and thorns; yea, it kindleth in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke. 9:19Through the wrath of Jehovah of hosts is the land burnt up; and the people are as the fuel of fire: no man spareth his brother. 9:20And one shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm: 9:21Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
10:1Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers that write perverseness; 10:2to turn aside the needy from justice, and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey! 10:3And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory? 10:4They shall only bow down under the prisoners, and shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
3:1Be not many of you teachers, my brethren, knowing that we shall receive heavier judgment. 3:2For in many things we all stumble. If any stumbleth not in word, the same is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body also. 3:3Now if we put the horses' bridles into their mouths that they may obey us, we turn about their whole body also. 3:4Behold, the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, are yet turned about by a very small rudder, whither the impulse of the steersman willeth. 3:5So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! 3:6And the tongue is a fire: the world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell. 3:7For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind. 3:8But the tongue can no man tame; it is a restless evil, it is full of deadly poison. 3:9Therewith bless we the Lord and Father; and therewith curse we men, who are made after the likeness of God: 3:10out of the same mouth cometh forth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 3:11Doth the fountain send forth from the same opening sweet water and bitter? 3:12Can a fig tree, my brethren, yield olives, or a vine figs? Neither can salt water yield sweet. 3:13Who is wise and understanding among you? let him show by his good life his works in meekness of wisdom. 3:14But if ye have bitter jealousy and faction in your heart, glory not and lie not against the truth. 3:15This wisdom is not a wisdom that cometh down from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 3:16For where jealousy and faction are, there is confusion and every vile deed. 3:17But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, without hypocrisy. 3:18And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for them that make peace.
