Psalms

For the Chief Musician; set to *Shoshanim. A Psalm of David.

 69:1Save me, O God;

 For the waters are come in unto my soul.

 69:2I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing:

 I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

 69:3I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried:

 Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

 69:4They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head:

 They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty:

 That which I took not away I have to restore.

 69:5O God, thou knowest my foolishness;

 And my sins are not hid from thee.

 69:6Let not them that wait for thee be put to shame through me, O Lord Jehovah of hosts:

 Let not those that seek thee be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.

 69:7Because for thy sake I have borne reproach;

 Shame hath covered my face.

 69:8I am become a stranger unto my brethren,

 And an alien unto my mother's children.

 69:9For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up;

 And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.

 69:10When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting,

 That was to my reproach.

 69:11When I made sackcloth my clothing,

 I became a byword unto them.

 69:12They that sit in the gate talk of me;

 And I am the song of the drunkards.

 69:13But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time:

 O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness,

 Answer me in the truth of thy salvation.

 69:14Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink:

 Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

 69:15Let not the waterflood overwhelm me,

 Neither let the deep shallow me up;

 And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

 69:16Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good:

 According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me.

 69:17And hide not thy face from thy servant;

 For I am in distress; answer me speedily.

 69:18Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it:

 Ransom me because of mine enemies.

 69:19Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor:

 Mine adversaries are all before thee.

 69:20Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness:

 And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none;

 And for comforters, but I found none.

 69:21They gave me also gall for my food;

 And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

 69:22Let their table before them become a snare;

 And when they are in peace, let it become a trap.

 69:23Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see;

 And make their loins continually to shake.

 69:24Pour out thine indignation upon them,

 And let the fierceness of thine anger overtake them.

 69:25Let their habitation be desolate;

 Let none dwell in their tents.

 69:26For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten;

 And they tell of the sorrow of those whom thou hast wounded.

 69:27Add iniquity unto their iniquity;

 And let them not come into thy righteousness.

 69:28Let them be blotted out of the book of life,

 And not be written with the righteous.

 69:29But I am poor and sorrowful:

 Let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

 69:30I will praise the name of God with a song,

 And will magnify him with thanksgiving.

 69:31And it will please Jehovah better than an ox,

 Or a bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

 69:32The meek have seen it, and are glad:

 Ye that seek after God, let your heart live.

 69:33For Jehovah heareth the needy,

 And despiseth not his prisoners.

 69:34Let heaven and earth praise him,

 The seas, and everything that moveth therein.

 69:35For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah;

 And they shall abide there, and have it in possession.

 69:36The seed also of his servants shall inherit it;

 And they that love his name shall dwell therein.

Isaiah

16:1Send ye the lambs for the ruler of the land from Selah to the wilderness, unto the mount of the daughter of Zion. 16:2For it shall be that, as wandering birds, as a scattered nest, so shall the daughters of Moab be at the fords of the Arnon. 16:3Give counsel, execute justice; make thy shade as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; betray not the fugitive. 16:4Let mine outcasts dwell with thee; as for Moab, be thou a covert to him from the face of the destroyer. For the extortioner is brought to nought, destruction ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land. 16:5And a throne shall be established in lovingkindness; and one shall sit thereon in truth, in the tent of David, judging, and seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness. 16:6We have heard of the pride of Moab, that he is very proud; even of his arrogancy, and his pride, and his wrath; his boastings are nought. 16:7Therefore shall Moab wail for Moab, every one shall wail: for the raisin-cakes of Kir-hareseth shall ye mourn, utterly stricken. 16:8For the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah; the lords of the nations have broken down the choice branches thereof, which reached even unto Jazer, which wandered into the wilderness; its shoots were spread abroad, they passed over the sea. 16:9Therefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah; I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for upon thy summer fruits and upon thy harvest the battle shout is fallen. 16:10And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither joyful noise: no treader shall tread out wine in the presses; I have made the vintage shout to cease. 16:11Wherefore my heart soundeth like a harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir-heres. 16:12And it shall come to pass, when Moab presenteth himself, when he wearieth himself upon the high place, and shall come to his sanctuary to pray, that he shall not prevail. 16:13This is the word that Jehovah spake concerning Moab in time past. 16:14But now Jehovah hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of a hireling, the glory of Moab shall be brought into contempt, with all his great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and of no account.

1 Peter

4:1Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 4:2that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 4:3For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries: 4:4wherein they think strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of of: 4:5who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead. 4:6For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 4:7But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer: 4:8above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins: 4:9using hospitality one to another without murmuring: 4:10according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God; 4:11if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; is any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 4:12Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you: 4:13but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy. 4:14If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you. 4:15For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters: 4:16but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name. 4:17For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? 4:18And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear? 4:19Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator.
