2 Kings

20:1In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. 20:2Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto Jehovah, saying, 20:3Remember now, O Jehovah, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. 20:4And it came to pass, before Isaiah was gone out into the middle part of the city, that the word of Jehovah came to him, saying, 20:5Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the prince of my people, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee; on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of Jehovah. 20:6And I will add unto thy days fifteen years; and I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake. 20:7And Isaiah said, Take a cake of figs. And they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

20:8And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What shall be the sign that Jehovah will heal me, and that I shall go up unto the house of Jehovah the third day? 20:9And Isaiah said, This shall be the sign unto thee from Jehovah, that Jehovah will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps? 20:10And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to decline ten steps: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten steps. 20:11And Isaiah the prophet cried unto Jehovah; and he brought the shadow ten steps backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.

20:12At that time Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present unto Hezekiah; for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 20:13And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah showed them not. 20:14Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon. 20:15And he said, What have they seen in thy house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in my house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not showed them.

20:16And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of Jehovah. 20:17Behold, the days come, that all that is in thy house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith Jehovah. 20:18And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, whom thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. 20:19Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of Jehovah which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, Is it not so, if peace and truth shall be in my days? 20:20Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 20:21And Hezekiah slept with his fathers; and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

Hebrews

2:1Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away from them. 2:2For if the word spoken through angels proved stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward; 2:3how shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation? which having at the first been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed unto us by them that heard; 2:4God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will. 2:5For not unto angels did he subject the world to come, whereof we speak. 2:6But one hath somewhere testified, saying,

 What is man, that thou art mindful of him?

 Or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

 2:7Thou madest him a little lower than the angels;

 Thou crownedst him with glory and honor,

 And didst set him over the works of thy hands:

 2:8Thou didst put all things in subjection under his feet.

For in that he subjected all things unto him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we see not yet all things subjected to him. 2:9But we behold him who hath been made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for every man. 2:10For it became him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 2:11For both he that sanctifieth and they that are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 2:12saying,

 I will declare thy name unto my brethren,

 In the midst of the congregation will I sing thy praise.

2:13And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold, I and the children whom God hath given me. 2:14Since then the children are sharers in flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner partook of the same; that through death he might bring to nought him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 2:15and might deliver all them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 2:16For verily not to angels doth he give help, but he giveth help to the seed of Abraham. 2:17Wherefore it behooved him in all things to be made like unto his brethren, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 2:18For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succor them that are tempted.

Hosea

13:1When Ephraim spake, there was trembling; he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died. 13:2And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves. 13:3Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that passeth early away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney. 13:4Yet I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou shalt know no god but me, and besides me there is no saviour. 13:5I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. 13:6According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted: therefore have they forgotten me. 13:7Therefore am I unto them as a lion; as a leopard will I watch by the way; 13:8I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them. 13:9It is thy destruction, O Israel, that thou art against me, against thy help. 13:10Where now is thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? 13:11I have given thee a king in mine anger, and have taken him away in my wrath. 13:12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid up in store. 13:13The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for it is time he should not tarry in the place of the breaking forth of children. 13:14I will ransom them from the power of Sheol; I will redeem them from death: O death, where are thy plagues? O Sheol, where is thy destruction? repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. 13:15Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the breath of Jehovah coming up from the wilderness; and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall make spoil of the treasure of all goodly vessels. 13:16Samaria shall bear her guilt; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword; their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

Psalms

 137:1By the rivers of Babylon,

 There we sat down, yea, we wept,

 When we remembered Zion.

 137:2Upon the willows in the midst thereof We hanged up our harps.

 137:3For there they that led us captive required of us songs,

 And they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying,

 Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

 137:4How shall we sing Jehovah's song

 In a foreign land?

 137:5If I forget thee, O Jerusalem,

 Let my right hand forget her skill.

 137:6Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth,

 If I remember thee not;

 If I prefer not Jerusalem

 Above my chief joy.

 137:7Remember, O Jehovah, against the children of Edom

 The day of Jerusalem;

 Who said, Rase it, rase it,

 Even to the foundation thereof.

 137:8O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed,

 Happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee

 As thou hast served us.

 137:9Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones

 Against the rock.

Psalm 138

A Psalm of David.

 138:1I will give thee thanks with my whole heart:

 Before the gods will I sing praises unto thee.

 138:2I will worship toward thy holy temple,

 And give thanks unto thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth:

 For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

 138:3In the day that I called thou answeredst me,

 Thou didst encourage me with strength in my soul.

 138:4All the kings of the earth shall give thee thanks, O Jehovah,

 For they have heard the words of thy mouth.

 138:5Yea, they shall sing of the ways of Jehovah;

 For great is the glory of Jehovah.

 138:6For though Jehovah is high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly;

 But the haughty he knoweth from afar.

 138:7Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me;

 Thou wilt stretch forth thy hand against the wrath of mine enemies,

 And thy right hand will save me.

 138:8Jehovah will perfect that which concerneth me:

 Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, endureth for ever;

 Forsake not the works of thine own hands.
