1 Chronicles

9:1So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel: and Judah was carried away captive to Babylon for their transgression. 9:2Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim. 9:3And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim and Manasseh: 9:4Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez the son of Judah. 9:5And of the Shilonites: Asaiah the first-born, and his sons. 9:6And of the sons of Zerah: Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. 9:7And of the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah, 9:8and Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; 9:9and their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were heads of fathers' houses by their fathers' houses.

9:10And of the priests: Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, Jachin, 9:11and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God; 9:12and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; 9:13and their brethren, heads of their fathers' houses, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

9:14And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; 9:15and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph, 9:16and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

9:17And the porters: Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren (Shallum was the chief), 9:18who hitherto waited in the king's gate eastward: they were the porters for the camp of the children of Levi. 9:19And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of his father's house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the thresholds of the tent: and their fathers had been over the camp of Jehovah, keepers of the entry. 9:20And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, and Jehovah was with him. 9:21Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tent of meeting. 9:22All these that were chosen to be porters in the thresholds were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their office of trust. 9:23So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of Jehovah, even the house of the tent, by wards. 9:24On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south. 9:25And their brethren, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them: 9:26for the four chief porters, who were Levites, were in an office of trust, and were over the chambers and over the treasuries in the house of God. 9:27And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge thereof was upon them; and to them pertained the opening thereof morning by morning.

9:28And certain of them had charge of the vessels of service; for by count were these brought in and by count were these taken out. 9:29Some of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. 9:30And some of the sons of the priests prepared the confection of the spices. 9:31And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the first-born of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in pans. 9:32And some of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

9:33And these are the singers, heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, who dwelt in the chambers and were free from other service; for they were employed in their work day and night. 9:34These were heads of fathers' houses of the Levites, throughout their generations, chief men: these dwelt at Jerusalem.

9:35And in Gibeon there dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife's name was Maacah: 9:36and his first-born son Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab, 9:37and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. 9:38And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren in Jerusalem, over against their brethren. 9:39And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal. 9:40And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal begat Micah. 9:41And the sons of Micah: Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz. 9:42And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza; 9:43and Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. 9:44And Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.

10:1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. 10:2And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul. 10:3And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers. 10:4Then said Saul unto his armor-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it. 10:5And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died. 10:6So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

10:7And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. 10:8And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa. 10:9And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people. 10:10And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon. 10:11And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, 10:12all the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

10:13So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire thereby, 10:14and inquired not of Jehovah: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

Hebrews

12:1Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 12:2looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 12:3For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against himself, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls. 12:4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin: 12:5and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons,

 My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord,

 Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;

 12:6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth,

 And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

12:7It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not? 12:8But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 12:9Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 12:10For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. 12:11All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, even the fruit of righteousness. 12:12Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the palsied knees; 12:13and make straight paths for your feet, that that which is lame be not turned out of the way, but rather be healed. 12:14Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord: 12:15looking carefully lest there be any man that falleth short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby the many be defiled; 12:16lest there be any fornication, or profane person, as Esau, who for one mess of meat sold his own birthright. 12:17For ye know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected; for he found no place for a change of mind in his father, though he sought is diligently with tears. 12:18For ye are not come unto a mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, and unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, 12:19and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard entreated that no word more should be spoken unto them; 12:20for they could not endure that which was enjoined, If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned; 12:21and so fearful was the appearance, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake: 12:22but ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable hosts of angels, 12:23to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, 12:24and to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaketh better than that of Abel. 12:25See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape who turn away from him that warneth from heaven: 12:26whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven. 12:27And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain. 12:28Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe: 12:29for our God is a consuming fire.

Amos

6:1Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and to them that are secure in the mountain of Samaria, the notable men of the chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel come! 6:2Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great; then go down to Gath of the Philistines: are they better than these kingdoms? or is their border greater than your border? 6:3-ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; 6:4that lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; 6:5that sing idle songs to the sound of the viol; that invent for themselves instruments of music, like David; 6:6that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief oils; but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. 6:7Therefore shall they now go captive with the first that go captive; and the revelry of them that stretched themselves shall pass away. 6:8The Lord Jehovah hath sworn by himself, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts: I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces; therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein. 6:9And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die. 6:10And when a man's uncle shall take him up, even he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is in the innermost parts of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No; then shall he say, Hold thy peace; for we may not make mention of the name of Jehovah. 6:11For, behold, Jehovah commandeth, and the great house shall be smitten with breaches, and the little house with clefts. 6:12Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? that ye have turned justice into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood; 6:13ye that rejoice in a thing of nought, that say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength? 6:14For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith Jehovah, the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entrance of Hamath unto the brook of the Arabah.

Luke

  1:39And Mary arose in these days and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Judah; 1:40and entered into the house of Zacharias and saluted Elisabeth. 1:41And it came to pass, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit; 1:42and she lifted up her voice with a loud cry, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 1:43And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come unto me? 1:44For behold, when the voice of thy salutation came into mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. 1:45And blessed is she that believed; for there shall be a fulfilment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord. 1:46And Mary said,

 My soul doth magnify the Lord,

 1:47And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

 1:48For he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaid:

 For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

 1:49For he that is mighty hath done to me great things;

 And holy is his name.

 1:50And his mercy is unto generations and generations

 On them that fear him.

 1:51He hath showed strength with his arm;

 He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their heart.

 1:52He hath put down princes from their thrones,

 And hath exalted them of low degree.

 1:53The hungry he hath filled with good things;

 And the rich he hath sent empty away.

 1:54He hath given help to Israel his servant,

 That he might remember mercy

 1:55(As he spake unto our fathers)

 Toward Abraham and his seed for ever.

1:56And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned unto her house. 1:57Now Elisabeth's time was fulfilled that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son. 1:58And her neighbors and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy towards her; and they rejoiced with her. 1:59And it came to pass on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him Zacharias, after the name of the father. 1:60And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John. 1:61And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. 1:62And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called. 1:63And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. 1:64And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, blessing God. 1:65And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea. 1:66And all that heard them laid them up in their heart, saying, What then shall this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him. 1:67And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,

 1:68Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;

 For he hath visited and wrought redemption for his people,

 1:69And hath raised up a horn of salvation for us

 In the house of his servant David

 1:70(As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets that have been from of old),

 1:71Salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

 1:72To show mercy towards, our fathers,

 And to remember his holy covenant;

 1:73The oath which he spake unto Abraham our father,

 1:74To grant unto us that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies

 Should serve him without fear,

 1:75In holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

 1:76Yea and thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Most High:

 For thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to make ready his ways;

 1:77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people

 In the remission of their sins,

 1:78Because of the tender mercy of our God,

 Whereby the dayspring from on high shall visit us,

 1:79To shine upon them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death;

 To guide our feet into the way of peace.

1:80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his showing unto Israel.
