21:1And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel. 21:2And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them. 21:3And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of guilt unto Israel? 21:4Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. 21:5And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. 21:6But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them; for the king's word was abominable to Joab. 21:7And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. 21:8And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing: but now, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
21:9And Jehovah spake unto Gad, David's seer, saying, 21:10Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. 21:11So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Take which thou wilt: 21:12either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before thy foes, while the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me. 21:13And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Jehovah; for very great are his mercies: and let me not fall into the hand of man. 21:14So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. 21:15And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was about to destroy, Jehovah beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the destroying angel, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 21:16And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. 21:17And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, O Jehovah my God, be against me, and against my father's house; but not against thy people, that they should be plagued.
21:18Then the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 21:19And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of Jehovah. 21:20And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons that were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. 21:21And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground. 21:22Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto Jehovah: for the full price shalt thou give it me, that the plague may be stayed from the people. 21:23And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal-offering; I give it all. 21:24And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt-offering without cost. 21:25So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. 21:26And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering. 21:27And Jehovah commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
21:28At that time, when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. 21:29For the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon. 21:30But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah.
2:1Putting away therefore all wickedness, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2:2as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation; 2:3if ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious: 2:4unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious, 2:5ye also, as living stones, are built up a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 2:6Because it is contained in scripture,
Behold, I lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious:
And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.
2:7For you therefore that believe is the preciousness: but for such as disbelieve,
The stone which the builders rejected,
The same was made the head of the corner;
2:8and,
A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence;
for they stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 2:9But ye are a elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 2:10who in time past were no people, but now are the people of God: who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 2:11Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lust, which war against the soul; 2:12having your behavior seemly among the Gentiles; that, wherein they speak against you as evil-doers, they may by your good works, which they behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 2:13Be subject to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme; 2:14or unto governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evil-doers and for praise to them that do well. 2:15For so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 2:16as free, and not using your freedom for a cloak of wickedness, but as bondservants of God. 2:17Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. 2:18Servants, be in subjection to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 2:19For this is acceptable, if for conscience toward God a man endureth griefs, suffering wrongfully. 2:20For what glory is it, if, when ye sin, and are buffeted for it, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye shall take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 2:21For hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye should follow his steps: 2:22who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 2:23who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 2:24who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed. 2:25For ye were going astray like sheep; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
4:1But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry. 4:2And he prayed unto Jehovah, and said, I pray thee, O Jehovah, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I hasted to flee unto Tarshish; for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repentest thee of the evil. 4:3Therefore now, O Jehovah, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live. 4:4And Jehovah said, Doest thou well to be angry? 4:5Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city. 4:6And Jehovah God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his evil case. So Jonah was exceeding glad because of the gourd. 4:7But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd, that it withered. 4:8And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live. 4:9And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death. 4:10And Jehovah said, Thou hast had regard for the gourd, for which thou hast not labored, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night: 4:11and should not I have regard for Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
9:1And he called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. 9:2And he sent them forth to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 9:3And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staff, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats. 9:4And into whatsoever house ye enter, there abide, and thence depart. 9:5And as many as receive you not, when ye depart from that city, shake off the dust from your feet for a testimony against them. 9:6And they departed, and went throughout the villages, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere. 9:7Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done: and he was much perplexed, because that it was said by some, that John was risen from the dead; 9:8and by some, that Elijah had appeared; and by others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. 9:9And Herod said, John I beheaded: but who is this, about whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him. 9:10And the apostles, when they were returned, declared unto him what things they had done. And he took them, and withdrew apart to a city called Bethsaida. 9:11But the multitudes perceiving it followed him: and he welcomed them, and spake to them of the kingdom of God, and them that had need of healing he cured. 9:12And the day began to wear away; and the twelve came, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages and country round about, and lodge, and get provisions: for we are here in a desert place. 9:13But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more than five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy food for all this people. 9:14For they were about five thousand men. And he said unto his disciples, Make them sit down in companies, about fifty each. 9:15And they did so, and made them all sit down. 9:16And he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake; and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. 9:17And they ate, and were all filled: and there was taken up that which remained over to them of broken pieces, twelve baskets. 9:18And it came to pass, as he was praying apart, the disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Who do the multitudes say that I am? 9:19And they answering said, John the Baptist; but others say, Elijah; and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again. 9:20And he said unto them, But who say ye that I am? And Peter answering said, The Christ of God. 9:21But he charged them, and commanded them to tell this to no man; 9:22saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up. 9:23And he said unto all, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 9:24For whosoever would save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. 9:25For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose or forfeit his own self? 9:26For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in his own glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels. 9:27But I tell you of a truth, There are some of them that stand here, who shall in no wise taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. 9:28And it came to pass about eight days after these sayings, that he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up into the mountain to pray. 9:29And as he was praying, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became white and dazzling. 9:30And behold, there talked with him two men, who were Moses and Elijah; 9:31who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 9:32Now Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 9:33And it came to pass, as they were parting from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah: not knowing what he said. 9:34And while he said these things, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 9:35And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my chosen: hear ye him. 9:36And when the voice came, Jesus was found alone. And they held their peace, and told no man in those days any of the things which they had seen. 9:37And it came to pass, on the next day, when they were come down from the mountain, a great multitude met him. 9:38And behold, a man from the multitude cried, saying, Teacher, I beseech thee to look upon my son; for he is mine only child: 9:39and behold, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth, and it hardly departeth from him, bruising him sorely. 9:40And I besought thy disciples to cast it out; and they could not. 9:41And Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? bring hither thy son. 9:42And as he was yet a coming, the demon dashed him down, and tare him grievously. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. 9:43And they were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marvelling at all the things which he did, he said unto his disciples, 9:44Let these words sink into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered up into the hands of men. 9:45But they understood not this saying, and it was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about this saying. 9:46And there arose a reasoning among them, which of them was the greatest. 9:47But when Jesus saw the reasoning of their heart, he took a little child, and set him by his side, 9:48and said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this little child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same is great. 9:49And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name; and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us. 9:50But Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against you is for you. 9:51And it came to pass, when the days were well-nigh come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 9:52and sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 9:53And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he were going to Jerusalem. 9:54And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we bid fire to come down from heaven, and consume them? 9:55But he turned, and rebuked them. 9:56And they went to another village. 9:57And as they went on the way, a certain man said unto him, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 9:58And Jesus said unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 9:59And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 9:60But he said unto him, Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but go thou and publish abroad the kingdom of God. 9:61And another also said, I will follow thee, Lord; but first suffer me to bid farewell to them that are at my house. 9:62But Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
