1 Kings

3:1And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. 3:2Only the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was no house built for the name of Jehovah until those days. 3:3And Solomon loved Jehovah, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

3:4And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt-offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar. 3:5In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. 3:6And Solomon said, Thou hast showed unto thy servant David my father great lovingkindness, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great lovingkindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 3:7And now, O Jehovah my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in. 3:8And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 3:9Give thy servant therefore an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this thy great people?

3:10And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 3:11And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern justice; 3:12behold, I have done according to thy word: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. 3:13And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee, all thy days. 3:14And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. 3:15And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream: and he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and offered up burnt-offerings, and offered peace-offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

3:16Then there came two women that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him. 3:17And the one woman said, Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. 3:18And it came to pass the third day after I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also; and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house. 3:19And this woman's child died in the night, because she lay upon it. 3:20And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thy handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. 3:21And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; but when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, whom I did bear. 3:22And the other woman said, Nay; but the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this said, No; but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spake before the king.

3:23Then said the king, The one saith, This is my son that liveth, and thy son is the dead: and the other saith, Nay; but thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. 3:24And the king said, Fetch me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. 3:25And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. 3:26Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, It shall be neither mine nor thine; divide it. 3:27Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. 3:28And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

Ephesians

1:1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, to the saints that are at Ephesus, and the faithful in Christ Jesus: 1:2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ: 1:4even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love: 1:5having foreordained us unto adoption as sons through Jesus Christ unto himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 1:6to the praise of the glory of his grace, which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved: 1:7in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 1:8which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, 1:9making known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he purposed in him 1:10unto a dispensation of the fulness of the times, to sum up all things in Christ, the things in the heavens, and the things upon the earth; in him, I say, 1:11in whom also we were made a heritage, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his will; 1:12to the end that we should be unto the praise of his glory, we who had before hoped in Christ: 1:13in whom ye also, having heard the word of the truth, the gospel of your salvation,-- in whom, having also believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 1:14which is an earnest of our inheritance, unto the redemption of God's own possession, unto the praise of his glory. 1:15For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and the love which ye show toward all the saints, 1:16cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 1:17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; 1:18having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 1:19and what the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might 1:20which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, 1:21far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 1:22and he put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, 1:23which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Ezekiel

34:1And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 34:2Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy, and say unto them, even to the shepherds, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the shepherds of Israel that do feed themselves! should not the shepherds feed the sheep? 34:3Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill the fatlings; but ye feed not the sheep. 34:4The diseased have ye not strengthened, neither have ye healed that which was sick, neither have ye bound up that which was broken, neither have ye brought back that which was driven away, neither have ye sought that which was lost; but with force and with rigor have ye ruled over them. 34:5And they were scattered, because there was no shepherd; and they became food to all the beasts of the field, and were scattered. 34:6My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my sheep were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and there was none that did search or seek after them. 34:7Therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of Jehovah: 34:8As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, surely forasmuch as my sheep became a prey, and my sheep became food to all the beasts of the field, because there was no shepherd, neither did my shepherds search for my sheep, but the shepherds fed themselves, and fed not my sheep; 34:9therefore, ye shepherds, hear the word of Jehovah: 34:10Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against the shepherds; and I will require my sheep at their hand, and cause them to cease from feeding the sheep; neither shall the shepherds feed themselves any more; and I will deliver my sheep from their mouth, that they may not be food for them. 34:11For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I myself, even I, will search for my sheep, and will seek them out. 34:12As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will deliver them out of all places whither they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. 34:13And I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them upon the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 34:14I will feed them with good pasture; and upon the mountains of the height of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie down in a good fold; and on fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. 34:15I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord Jehovah. 34:16I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but the fat and the strong I will destroy; I will feed them in justice. 34:17And as for you, O my flock, thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, the rams and the he-goats. 34:18Seemeth it a small thing unto you to have fed upon the good pasture, but ye must tread down with your feet the residue of your pasture? and to have drunk of the clear waters, but ye must foul the residue with your feet? 34:19And as for my sheep, they eat that which ye have trodden with your feet, and they drink that which ye have fouled with your feet. 34:20Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto them: Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 34:21Because ye thrust with side and with shoulder, and push all the diseased with your horns, till ye have scattered them abroad; 34:22therefore will I save my flock, and they shall no more be a prey; and I will judge between sheep and sheep. 34:23And I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. 34:24And I, Jehovah, will be their God, and my servant David prince among them; I, Jehovah, have spoken it. 34:25And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause evil beasts to cease out of the land; and they shall dwell securely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods. 34:26And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in its season; there shall be showers of blessing. 34:27And the tree of the field shall yield its fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land; and they shall know that I am Jehovah, when I have broken the bars of their yoke, and have delivered them out of the hand of those that made bondmen of them. 34:28And they shall no more be a prey to the nations, neither shall the beasts of the earth devour them; but they shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid. 34:29And I will raise up unto them a plantation for renown, and they shall be no more consumed with famine in the land, neither bear the shame of the nations any more. 34:30And they shall know that I, Jehovah, their God am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, saith the Lord Jehovah. 34:31And ye my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Psalms

A song. A Psalm of Asaph.

 83:1O God, keep not thou silence:

 Hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.

 83:2For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult;

 And they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

 83:3Thy take crafty counsel against thy people,

 And consult together against thy hidden ones.

 83:4They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation;

 That the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

 83:5For they have consulted together with one consent;

 Against thee do they make a covenant:

 83:6The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;

 Moab, and the Hagarenes;

 83:7Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek;

 Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre:

 83:8Assyria also is joined with them;

 They have *helped the children of Lot.

Selah

 83:9Do thou unto them as unto Midian,

 As to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;

 83:10Who perished at Endor,

 Who became as dung for the earth.

 83:11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb;

 Yea, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna;

 83:12Who said, Let us take to ourselves in possession

 The *habitations of God.

 83:13O my God, make them like the whirling dust;

 As stubble before the wind.

 83:14As the fire that burneth the forest,

 And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire,

 83:15So pursue them with thy tempest,

 And terrify them with thy storm.

 83:16Fill their faces with confusion,

 That they may seek thy name, O Jehovah.

 83:17Let them be put to shame and dismayed for ever;

 Yea, let them be confounded and perish;

 83:18That they may know that *thou alone, whose name is Jehovah,

 Art the Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 84

For the Chief Musician; set to the Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

 84:1How *amiable are thy tabernacles,

 O Jehovah of hosts!

 84:2My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of Jehovah;

 My heart and my flesh *cry out unto the living God.

 84:3Yea, the sparrow hath found her a house,

 And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young,

 Even thine altars, O Jehovah of hosts,

 My King, and my God.

 84:4Blessed are they that dwell in thy house:

 They will be still praising thee.

Selah

 84:5Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee;

 In whose heart are the highways to Zion.

 84:6Passing through the valley of *Weeping they make it a place of springs;

 Yea, the early rain covereth it with blessings.

 84:7They go from strength to strength;

 Every one of them appeareth before God in Zion.

 84:8O Jehovah God of hosts, hear my prayer;

 Give ear, O God of Jacob.

Selah

 84:9*Behold, O God our shield,

 And look upon the face of thine anointed.

 84:10For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.

 I had rather *be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,

 Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

 84:11For Jehovah God is a sun and a shield:

 Jehovah will give grace and glory;

 No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

 84:12O Jehovah of hosts,

 Blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
