18:1And it came to pass after many days, that the word of Jehovah came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth. 18:2And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab. And the famine was sore in Samaria. 18:3And Ahab called Obadiah, who was over the household. (Now Obadiah feared Jehovah greatly: 18:4for it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.) 18:5And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go through the land, unto all the fountains of water, and unto all the brooks: peradventure we may find grass and save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts. 18:6So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
18:7And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Is it thou, my lord Elijah? 18:8And he answered him, It is I: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here. 18:9And he said, Wherein have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me? 18:10As Jehovah thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not here, he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not. 18:11And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here. 18:12And it will come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of Jehovah will carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he will slay me: but I thy servant fear Jehovah from my youth. 18:13Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of Jehovah, how I hid a hundred men of Jehovah's prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water? 18:14And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here; and he will slay me. 18:15And Elijah said, As Jehovah of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself unto him to-day.
18:16So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah. 18:17And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Is it thou, thou troubler of Israel? 18:18And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of Jehovah, and thou hast followed the Baalim. 18:19Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the Asherah four hundred, that eat at Jezebel's table.
18:20So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel. 18:21And Elijah came near unto all the people, and said, How long go ye limping between the two sides? if Jehovah be God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 18:22Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, am left a prophet of Jehovah; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men. 18:23Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under; and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire under. 18:24And call ye on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of Jehovah; and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
18:25And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under. 18:26And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped about the altar which was made. 18:27And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud; for he is a god: either he is musing, or he is gone aside, or he is on a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth and must be awaked. 18:28And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lances, till the blood gushed out upon them. 18:29And it was so, when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening oblation; but there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
18:30And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me; and all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of Jehovah that was thrown down. 18:31And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah came, saying, Israel shall be thy name. 18:32And with the stones he built an altar in the name of Jehovah; and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed. 18:33And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid it on the wood. And he said, Fill four jars with water, and pour it on the burnt-offering, and on the wood. 18:34And he said, Do it the second time; and they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time; and they did it the third time. 18:35And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water. 18:36And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening oblation, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, O Jehovah, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. 18:37Hear me, O Jehovah, hear me, that this people may know that thou, Jehovah, art God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. 18:38Then the fire of Jehovah fell, and consumed the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. 18:39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, Jehovah, he is God; Jehovah, he is God. 18:40and Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
18:41And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain. 18:42So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees. 18:43And he said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. 18:44And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a cloud out of the sea, as small as a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Make ready thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. 18:45And it came to pass in a little while, that the heavens grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel: 18:46and the hand of Jehovah was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
1:1Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. 1:2We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; 1:3remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father; 1:4knowing, brethren beloved of God, your election, 1:5how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake. 1:6And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit; 1:7so that ye became an ensample to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia. 1:8For from you hath sounded forth the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith to God-ward is gone forth; so that we need not to speak anything. 1:9For they themselves report concerning us what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how ye turned unto God from idols, to serve a living and true God, 1:10and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivereth us from the wrath to come.
48:1Now these are the names of the tribes: From the north end, beside the way of Hethlon to the entrance of Hamath, Hazar-enan at the border of Damascus, northward beside Hamath, (and they shall have their sides east and west,) Dan, one portion. 48:2And by the border of Dan, from the east side unto the west side, Asher, one portion. 48:3And by the border of Asher, from the east side even unto the west side, Naphtali, one portion. 48:4And by the border of Naphtali, from the east side unto the west side, Manasseh, one portion. 48:5And by the border of Manasseh, from the east side unto the west side, Ephraim, one portion. 48:6And by the border of Ephraim, from the east side even unto the west side, Reuben, one portion. 48:7And by the border of Reuben, from the east side unto the west side, Judah, one portion. 48:8And by the border of Judah, from the east side unto the west side, shall be the oblation which ye shall offer, five and twenty thousand reeds in breadth, and in length as one of the portions, from the east side unto the west side: and the sanctuary shall be in the midst of it. 48:9The oblation that ye shall offer unto Jehovah shall be five and twenty thousand reeds in length, and ten thousand in breadth. 48:10And for these, even for the priests, shall be the holy oblation: toward the north five and twenty thousand in length, and toward the west ten thousand in breadth, and toward the east ten thousand in breadth, and toward the south five and twenty thousand in length: and the sanctuary of Jehovah shall be in the midst thereof. 48:11It shall be for the priests that are sanctified of the sons of Zadok, that have kept my charge, that went not astray when the children of Israel went astray, as the Levites went astray. 48:12And it shall be unto them an oblation from the oblation of the land, a thing most holy, by the border of the Levites. 48:13And answerable unto the border of the priests, the Levites shall have five and twenty thousand in length, and ten thousand in breadth: all the length shall be five and twenty thousand, and the breadth ten thousand. 48:14And they shall sell none of it, nor exchange it, nor shall the first-fruits of the land be alienated; for it is holy unto Jehovah. 48:15And the five thousand that are left in the breadth, in front of the five and twenty thousand, shall be for common use, for the city, for dwelling and for suburbs; and the city shall be in the midst thereof. 48:16And these shall be the measures thereof: the north side four thousand and five hundred, and the south side four thousand and five hundred, and on the east side four thousand and five hundred, and the west side four thousand and five hundred. 48:17And the city shall have suburbs: toward the north two hundred and fifty, and toward the south two hundred and fifty, and toward the east two hundred and fifty, and toward the west two hundred and fifty. 48:18And the residue in the length, answerable unto the holy oblation, shall be ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward; and it shall be answerable unto the holy oblation; and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that labor in the city. 48:19And they that labor in the city, out of all the tribes of Israel, shall till it. 48:20All the oblation shall be five and twenty thousand by five and twenty thousand: ye shall offer the holy oblation four-square, with the possession of the city. 48:21And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy oblation and of the possession of the city; in front of the five and twenty thousand of the oblation toward the east border, and westward in front of the five and twenty thousand toward the west border, answerable unto the portions, it shall be for the prince: and the holy oblation and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst thereof. 48:22Moreover from the possession of the Levites, and from the possession of the city, being in the midst of that which is the prince's, between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin, it shall be for the prince. 48:23And as for the rest of the tribes: from the east side unto the west side, Benjamin, one portion. 48:24And by the border of Benjamin, from the east side unto the west side, Simeon, one portion. 48:25And by the border of Simeon, from the east side unto the west side, Issachar, one portion. 48:26And by the border of Issachar, from the east side unto the west side, Zebulun, one portion. 48:27And by the border of Zebulun, from the east side unto the west side, Gad, one portion. 48:28And by the border of Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be even from Tamar unto the waters of Meribath-kadesh, to the brook of Egypt, unto the great sea. 48:29This is the land which ye shall divide by lot unto the tribes of Israel for inheritance, and these are their several portions, saith the Lord Jehovah. 48:30And these are the egresses of the city: On the north side four thousand and five hundred reeds by measure; 48:31and the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel, three gates northward: the gate of Reuben, one; the gate of Judah, one; the gate of Levi, one. 48:32And at the east side four thousand and five hundred reeds, and three gates: even the gate of Joseph, one; the gate of Benjamin, one; the gate of Dan, one. 48:33And at the south side four thousand and five hundred reeds by measure, and three gates: the gate of Simeon, one; the gate of Issachar, one; the gate of Zebulun, one. 48:34At the west side four thousand and five hundred reeds, with their three gates: the gate of Gad, one; the gate of Asher, one; the gate of Naphtali, one. 48:35It shall be eighteen thousand reeds round about: and the name of the city from that day shall be, Jehovah is there.
04:1Bless Jehovah, O my soul.
O Jehovah my God, thou art very great;
Thou art clothed with honor and majesty:
104:2Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment;
Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain;
104:3Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters;
Who maketh the clouds his chariot;
Who walketh upon the wings of the wind;
104:4Who maketh *winds his messengers;
Flames of fire his ministers;
104:5 *Who laid the foundations of the earth,
That it should not be moved for ever.
104:6Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a vesture;
The waters stood above the mountains.
104:7At thy rebuke they fled;
At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away
104:8 *(The mountains rose, the valleys sank down)
Unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.
104:9Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over;
That they turn not again to cover the earth.
104:10He sendeth forth springs into the valleys;
They run among the mountains;
104:11They give drink to every beast of the field;
The wild asses quench their thirst.
104:12By them the birds of the heavens have their habitation;
They *sing among the branches.
104:13He watereth the mountains from his chambers:
The earth is filled with the fruit of thy works.
104:14He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,
And herb for the *service of man;
That he may bring forth *food out of the earth,
104:15And wine that maketh glad the heart of man,
*And oil to make his face to shine,
And bread that strengtheneth man's heart.
104:16The trees of Jehovah are filled with moisture,
The cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
104:17Where the birds make their nests:
As for the stork, the fir-trees are her house.
104:18The high mountains are for the wild goats;
The rocks are a refuge for the conies.
104:19He appointed the moon for seasons:
The sun knoweth his going down.
104:20Thou makest darkness, and it is night,
Wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth.
104:21The young lions roar after their prey,
And seek their food from God.
104:22The sun ariseth, they get them away,
And lay them down in their dens.
104:23Man goeth forth unto his work
And to his labor until the evening.
104:24O Jehovah, how manifold are thy works!
In wisdom hast thou made them all:
The earth is full of thy *riches.
104:25Yonder is the sea, great and wide,
Wherein are things creeping innumerable,
Both small and great beasts.
104:26There go the ships;
There is leviathan, whom thou hast formed to play *therein.
104:27These wait all for thee,
That thou mayest give them their food in due season.
104:28Thou givest unto them, they gather;
Thou openest thy hand, they are satisfied with good.
104:29Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled;
Thou *takest away their breath, they die,
And return to their dust.
104:30Thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created;
And thou renewest the face of the ground.
104:31Let the glory of Jehovah endure for ever;
Let Jehovah rejoice in his works:
104:32Who looketh on the earth, and it trembleth;
He toucheth the mountains, and they smoke.
104:33I will sing unto Jehovah as long as I live:
I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.
104:34Let thy meditation be sweet unto him:
I will rejoice in Jehovah.
104:35Let sinners be consumed out of the earth.
And let the wicked be no more.
Bless Jehovah, O my soul.
*Praise ye Jehovah.
