21:1And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. 21:2And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house; and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it: or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money. 21:3And Naboth said to Ahab, Jehovah forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee. 21:4And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
21:5But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread? 21:6And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard. 21:7And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thy heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. 21:8So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, and that dwelt with Naboth. 21:9And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people: 21:10and set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst curse God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him to death.
21:11And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. 21:12They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. 21:13And the two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him: and the base fellows bare witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did curse God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him to death with stones. 21:14Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead. 21:15And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead. 21:16And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.
21:17And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 21:18Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwelleth in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to take possession of it. 21:19And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, Hast thou killed and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak unto him, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine. 21:20And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee, because thou hast sold thyself to do that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah. 21:21Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will utterly sweep thee away and will cut off from Ahab every man-child, and him that is shut up and him that is left at large in Israel: 21:22and I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah for the provocation wherewith thou hast provoked me to anger, and hast made Israel to sin. 21:23And of Jezebel also spake Jehovah, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel. 21:24Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the birds of the heavens eat. 21:25(But there was none like unto Ahab, who did sell himself to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. 21:26And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom Jehovah cast out before the children of Israel.)
21:27And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. 21:28And the word of Jehovah came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 21:29Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.
4:1Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk, --that ye abound more and more. 4:2For ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 4:3For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication; 4:4that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 4:5not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God; 4:6that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified. 4:7For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification. 4:8Therefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you. 4:9But concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another; 4:10for indeed ye do it toward all the brethren that are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more; 4:11and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your hands, even as we charged you; 4:12that ye may walk becomingly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing. 4:13But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope. 4:14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 4:15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep. 4:16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first; 4:17then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 4:18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
3:1Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. 3:2Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3:3Then the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. 3:4Then the herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, 3:5that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up; 3:6and whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 3:7Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. 3:8Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and brought accusation against the Jews. 3:9They answered and said to Nebuchadnezzar the king, O king, live for ever. 3:10Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image; 3:11and whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 3:12There are certain Jews whom thou hast appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. 3:13Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king. 3:14Nebuchadnezzar answered and said unto them, Is it of purpose, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, that ye serve not my god, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? 3:15Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made, well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands? 3:16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer thee in this matter. 3:17If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of thy hand, O king. 3:18But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. 3:19Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated. 3:20And he commanded certain mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. 3:21Then these men were bound in their hosen, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 3:22Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. 3:23And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 3:24Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste: he spake and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. 3:25He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the aspect of the fourth is like a son of the gods. 3:26Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace: he spake and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the Most High God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego came forth out of the midst of the fire. 3:27And the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power upon their bodies, nor was the hair of their head singed, neither were their hosen changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them. 3:28Nebuchadnezzar spake and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. 3:29Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill; because there is no other god that is able to deliver after this sort. 3:30Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego in the province of Babylon.
107:1O give thanks unto Jehovah;
For he is good;
For his lovingkindness endureth for ever.
107:2Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so,
Whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
107:3And gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and *from the south.
107:4They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way;
They found no city of habitation.
107:5Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
107:6Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble,
And he delivered them out of their distresses,
107:7He led them also by a straight way,
That they might go to a city of habitation.
107:8Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
107:9For he satisfieth the longing soul,
And the hungry soul he filleth with good.
107:10Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Being bound in affliction and iron,
107:11Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And contemned the counsel of the Most High:
107:12Therefore he brought down their heart with labor;
They fell down, and there was none to help.
107:13Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble,
And he saved them out of their distresses.
107:14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And brake their bonds in sunder.
107:15Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
107:16For he hath broken the gates of brass,
And cut the bars of iron in sunder.
107:17Fools because of *their transgression,
And because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
107:18Their soul abhorreth all manner of food;
And they draw near unto the gates of death.
107:19Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble,
And he saveth them out of their distresses.
107:20He sendeth his word, and healeth them,
And delivereth them from their *destructions.
107:21Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
107:22And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare his works with singing.
107:23They that go down to the sea in ships,
That do business in great waters;
107:24These see the works of Jehovah,
And his wonders in the deep.
107:25For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,
Which lifteth up the waves thereof.
107:26They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths:
Their soul melteth away because of trouble.
107:27They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
And *are at their wits' end.
107:28Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble,
And he bringeth them out of their distresses.
107:29He maketh the storm a calm,
So that the waves thereof are still.
107:30Then are they glad because they are quiet;
So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
107:31Oh that men would praise Jehovah for his lovingkindness,
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
107:32Let them exalt him also in the assembly of the people,
And praise him in the seat of the elders.
107:33He turneth rivers into a wilderness,
And watersprings into a thirsty ground;
107:34A fruitful land into a salt desert,
For the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
107:35He turneth a wilderness into a pool of water,
And a dry land into watersprings.
107:36And there he maketh the hungry to dwell,
That they may prepare a city of habitation,
107:37And sow fields, and plant vineyards,
And get them fruits of increase.
107:38He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly;
And he suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
107:39Again, they are diminished and bowed down
Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.
107:40He poureth contempt upon princes,
And causeth them to wander in the waste, where there is no way.
107:41Yet setteth he the needy on high from affliction,
And maketh him families like a flock.
107:42The upright shall see it, and be glad;
And all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
107:43Whoso is wise will give heed to these things;
And they will consider the lovingkindnesses of Jehovah.
