1:1And Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. 1:2And Ahaziah fell down through the lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover of this sickness. 1:3But the angel of Jehovah said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it because there is no God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? 1:4Now therefore thus saith Jehovah, Thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.
1:5And the messengers returned unto him, and he said unto them, Why is it that ye are returned? 1:6And they said unto him, There came up a man to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Is it because there is no God in Israel, that thou sendest to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. 1:7And he said unto them, What manner of man was he that came up to meet you, and told you these words? 1:8And they answered him, He was a hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.
1:9Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he spake unto him, O man of God, the king hath said, Come down. 1:10And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. 1:11And again he sent unto him another captain of fifty and his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly. 1:12And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty. 1:13And again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. 1:14Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and consumed the two former captains of fifty with their fifties; but now let my life be precious in thy sight. 1:15And the angel of Jehovah said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king. 1:16And he said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down from the bed whither thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
1:17So he died according to the word of Jehovah which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram began to reign in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son. 1:18Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

5:1Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. 5:2Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink therefrom. 5:3Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. 5:4They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. 5:5In the same hour came forth the fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 5:6Then the king's countenance was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another. 5:7The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spake and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom. 5:8Then came in all the king's wise men; but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation. 5:9Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were perplexed. 5:10Now the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: the queen spake and said, O king, live forever; let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed. 5:11There is a man in thy kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and the king Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made him master of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and soothsayers; 5:12forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of dark sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation. 5:13Then was Daniel brought in before the king. The king spake and said unto Daniel, Art thou that Daniel, who art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah? 5:14I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in thee. 5:15And now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing. 5:16But I have heard of thee, that thou canst give interpretations, and dissolve doubts; now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the kingdom. 5:17Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; nevertheless I will read the writing unto the king, and make known to him the interpretation. 5:18O thou king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty: 5:19and because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up, and whom he would he put down. 5:20But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: 5:21and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts', and his dwelling was with the wild asses; he was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that the Most High God ruleth in the kingdom of men, and that he setteth up over it whomsoever he will. 5:22And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thy heart, though thou knewest all this, 5:23but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou and thy lords, thy wives and thy concubines, have drunk wine from them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified. 5:24Then was the part of the hand sent from before him, and this writing was inscribed. 5:25And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 5:26This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and brought it to an end; 5:27TEKEL; thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 5:28PERES; thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians. 5:29Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. 5:30In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain. 5:31And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.
A Psalm of David.
110:1Jehovah saith unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand,
Until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
110:2Jehovah will *send forth the *rod of thy strength out of Zion:
Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
110:3Thy people *offer themselves willingly
In the day of thy *power, *in holy array:
Out of the womb of the morning
*Thou hast the dew of thy youth.
110:4Jehovah hath sworn, and will not repent:
Thou art a priest for ever
After the *order of Melchizedek.
110:5The Lord at thy right hand
*Will strike through kings in the day of his wrath.
110:6He will judge among the nations,
*He *will fill the places with dead bodies;
He *will strike through the head *in many countries.
110:7He will drink of the brook in the way:
Therefore will he lift up the head.
I will give thanks unto Jehovah with my whole heart,
In the council of the upright, and in the congregation.
111:2The works of Jehovah are great,
Sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.
111:3His work is honor and majesty;
And his righteousness endureth for ever.
111:4He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered:
Jehovah is gracious and merciful.
111:5He hath given *food unto them that fear him:
He will ever be mindful of his covenant.
111:6He hath showed his people the power of his works,
In giving them the heritage of the nations.
111:7The works of his hands are truth and justice;
All his precepts are sure.
111:8They are established for ever and ever;
They are *done in truth and uprightness.
111:9He hath sent redemption unto his people;
He hath commanded his covenant for ever:
Holy and reverend is his name.
111:10The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom;
*A good understanding have all they that do *his commandments:
His praise endureth for ever.
