2 Samuel

1:1And it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag; 1:2it came to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul, with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance. 1:3And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped. 1:4And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, The people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also. 1:5And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead? 1:6And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul was leaning upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and the horsemen followed hard after him. 1:7And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I. 1:8And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite. 1:9And he said unto me, Stand, I pray thee, beside me, and slay me; for anguish hath taken hold of me, because my life is yet whole in me. 1:10So I stood beside him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord.

1:11Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him: 1:12and they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword. 1:13And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a sojourner, an Amalekite. 1:14And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to put forth thy hand to destroy Jehovah's anointed? 1:15And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him, so that he died. 1:16And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain Jehovah's anointed.

1:17And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son 1:18(and he bade them teach the children of Judah the song of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jashar):

 1:19Thy glory, O Israel, is slain upon thy high places!

 How are the mighty fallen!

 1:20Tell it not in Gath,

 Publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon;

 Lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice,

 Lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

 1:21Ye mountains of Gilboa,

 Let there be no dew nor rain upon you, neither fields of offerings:

 For there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away,

 The shield of Saul, not anointed with oil.

 1:22From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty,

 The bow of Jonathan turned not back,

 And the sword of Saul returned not empty.

 1:23Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives,

 And in their death they were not divided:

 They were swifter than eagles,

 They were stronger than lions.

 1:24Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul,

 Who clothed you in scarlet delicately,

 Who put ornaments of gold upon your apparel.

 1:25How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle!

 Jonathan is slain upon thy high places.

 1:26I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan:

 Very pleasant hast thou been unto me:

 Thy love to me was wonderful,

 Passing the love of women.

 1:27How are the mighty fallen,

 And the weapons of war perished!

1 Corinthians

12:1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 12:2Ye know that when ye were Gentiles ye were led away unto those dumb idols, howsoever ye might led. 12:3Wherefore I make known unto you, that no man speaking in the Spirit of God saith, Jesus is anathema; and no man can say, Jesus is Lord, but in the Holy Spirit. 12:4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 12:5And there are diversities of ministrations, and the same Lord. 12:6And there are diversities of workings, but the same God, who worketh all things in all. 12:7But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal. 12:8For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit: 12:9to another faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, in the one Spirit; 12:10and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues: 12:11but all these worketh the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each one severally even as he will. 12:12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ. 12:13For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit. 12:14For the body is not one member, but many. 12:15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; it is not therefore not of the body. 12:16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; it is not therefore not of the body. 12:17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 12:18But now hath God set the members each one of them in the body, even as it pleased him. 12:19And if they were all one member, where were the body? 12:20But now they are many members, but one body. 12:21And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee: or again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. 12:22Nay, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be more feeble are necessary: 12:23and those parts of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness; 12:24whereas our comely parts have no need: but God tempered the body together, giving more abundant honor to that part which lacked; 12:25that there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 12:26And whether one member suffereth, all the members suffer with it; or one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. 12:27Now ye are the body of Christ, and severally members thereof. 12:28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, divers kinds of tongues. 12:29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 12:30have all gifts of healings? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 12:31But desire earnestly the greater gifts. And moreover a most excellent way show I unto you.

Ezekiel

10:1Then I looked, and behold, in the firmament that was over the head of the cherubim there appeared above them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. 10:2And he spake unto the man clothed in linen, and said, Go in between the whirling wheels, even under the cherub, and fill both thy hands with coals of fire from between the cherubim, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight. 10:3Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. 10:4And the glory of Jehovah mounted up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of Jehovah's glory. 10:5And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of God Almighty when he speaketh. 10:6And it came to pass, when he commanded the man clothed in linen, saying, Take fire from between the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim, that he went in, and stood beside a wheel. 10:7And the cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubim unto the fire that was between the cherubim, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed in linen, who took it and went out. 10:8And there appeared in the cherubim the form of a man's hand under their wings. 10:9And I looked, and behold, four wheels beside the cherubim, one wheel beside one cherub, and another wheel beside another cherub; and the appearance of the wheels was like unto a beryl stone. 10:10And as for their appearance, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel have been within a wheel. 10:11When they went, they went in their four directions: they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went. 10:12And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had. 10:13As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing, the whirling wheels. 10:14And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of the cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third face the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. 10:15And the cherubim mounted up: this is the living creature that I saw by the river Chebar. 10:16And when the cherubim went, the wheels went beside them; and when the cherubim lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the wheels also turned not from beside them. 10:17When they stood, these stood; and when they mounted up, these mounted up with them: for the spirit of the living creature was in them. 10:18And the glory of Jehovah went forth from over the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. 10:19And the cherubim lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight when they went forth, and the wheels beside them: and they stood at the door of the east gate of Jehovah's house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above. 10:20This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river Chebar; and I knew that they were cherubim. 10:21Every one had four faces, and every one four wings; and the likeness of the hands of a man was under their wings. 10:22And as for the likeness of their faces, they were the faces which I saw by the river Chebar, their appearances and themselves; they went every one straight forward.

Psalms

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.

 49:1Hear this, all ye peoples;

 Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,

 49:2Both low and high,

 Rich and poor together.

 49:3My mouth shall speak wisdom;

 And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

 49:4I will incline mine ear to a parable:

 I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

 49:5Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil,

 When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?

 49:6They that trust in their wealth,

 And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

 49:7None of them can by any means redeem his brother,

 Nor give to God a ransom for him;

 49:8(For the redemption of their life is costly,

 And it faileth for ever;)

 49:9That he should still live alway,

 That he should not see corruption.

 49:10For he shall see it. Wise men die;

 The fool and the brutish alike perish,

 And leave their wealth to others.

 49:11Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever,

 And their dwelling-places to all generations;

 They call their lands after their own names.

 49:12But man being in honor abideth not:

 He is like the beasts that perish.

 49:13This their way is their folly:

 Yet after them men approve their sayings.

Selah

 49:14They are appointed as a flock for Sheol;

 Death shall be their shepherd;

 And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning;

 And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume,

 That there be no habitation for it.

 49:15But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol;

 For he will receive me.

Selah

 49:16Be not thou afraid when one is made rich,

 When the glory of his house is increased.

 49:17For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away;

 His glory shall not descend after him.

 49:18Though while he lived he blessed his soul

 (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,)

 49:19He shall go to the generation of his fathers;

 They shall never see the light.

 49:20Man that is in honor, and understandeth not,

 Is like the beasts that perish.
