2 Samuel

7:1And it came to pass, when the king dwelt in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest from all his enemies round about, 7:2that the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains. 7:3And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thy heart; for Jehovah is with thee. 7:4And it came to pass the same night, that the word of Jehovah came unto Nathan, saying, 7:5Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah, Shalt thou build me a house for me to dwell in? 7:6for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7:7In all places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel, spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar? 7:8Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people, over Israel; 7:9and I have been with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth. 7:10And I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first, 7:11and as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover Jehovah telleth thee that Jehovah will make thee a house. 7:12When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, that shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 7:13He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever. 7:14I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; 7:15but my lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. 7:16And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever. 7:17According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

7:18Then David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Lord Jehovah, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far? 7:19And this was yet a small thing in thine eyes, O Lord Jehovah; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come; and this too after the manner of men, O Lord Jehovah! 7:20And what can David say more unto thee? for thou knowest thy servant, O Lord Jehovah. 7:21For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make thy servant know it. 7:22Wherefore thou art great, O Jehovah God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 7:23And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and terrible things for thy land, before thy people, whom thou redeemest to thee out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods? 7:24And thou didst establish to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God. 7:25And now, O Jehovah God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, confirm thou it for ever, and do as thou hast spoken. 7:26And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is God over Israel; and the house of thy servant David shall be established before thee. 7:27For thou, O Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee. 7:28And now, O Lord Jehovah, thou art God, and thy words are truth, and thou hast promised this good thing unto thy servant: 7:29now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee; for thou, O Lord Jehovah, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

2 Corinthians

1:1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in the whole of Achaia: 1:2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 1:3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 1:4who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 1:5For as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ. 1:6But whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which worketh in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: 1:7and our hope for you is stedfast; knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort. 1:8For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 1:9yea, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead: 1:10who delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver: on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us; 1:11ye also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf. 1:12For our glorifying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. 1:13For we write no other things unto you, than what ye read or even acknowledge, and I hope ye will acknowledge unto the end: 1:14as also ye did acknowledge us in part, that we are your glorying, even as ye also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus. 1:15And in this confidence I was minded to come first unto you, that ye might have a second benefit; 1:16and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judaea. 1:17When I therefore was thus minded, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay? 1:18But as God is faithful, our word toward you is not yea and nay. 1:19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea. 1:20For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us. 1:21Now he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; 1:22who also sealed us, and gave us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. 1:23But I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth. 1:24Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for in faith ye stand fast.

Ezekiel

15:1And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 15:2Son of man, what is the vine-tree more than any tree, the vine-branch which is among the trees of the forest? 15:3Shall wood be taken thereof to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? 15:4Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire hath devoured both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned: is it profitable for any work? 15:5Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned, shall it yet be meet for any work! 15:6Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 15:7And I will set my face against them; they shall go forth from the fire, but the fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah, when I set my face against them. 15:8And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Psalms

For the Chief Musician; set to *Jonath elem rehokim. A Psalm of David. Michtam: when the Philistines took him in Gath.

 56:1Be merciful unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up:

 All the day long he fighting oppresseth me.

 56:2Mine enemies would swallow me up all the day long;

 For they are many that fight proudly against me.

 56:3What time I am afraid,

 I will put my trust in thee.

 56:4In God (I will praise his word),

 In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid;

 What can flesh do unto me?

 56:5All the day long they wrest my words:

 All their thoughts are against me for evil.

 56:6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves,

 They mark my steps,

 Even as they have waited for my soul.

 56:7Shall they escape by iniquity?

 In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

 56:8Thou numberest my wanderings:

 Put thou my tears into thy bottle;

 Are they not in thy book?

 56:9Then shall mine enemies turn back in the day that I call:

 This I know, that God is for me.

 56:10In God (I will praise his word),

 In Jehovah (I will praise his word),

 56:11In God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid;

 What can man do unto me?

 56:12Thy vows are upon me, O God:

 I will render thank-offerings unto thee.

 56:13For thou hast delivered my soul from death:

 Hast thou not delivered my feet from falling,

 That I may walk before God

 In the light of the living?

Psalm 57

For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tash-heth. A Psalm of David. Michtam; when he fled from Saul, in the cave.

 57:1Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me;

 For my soul taketh refuge in thee:

 Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I take refuge,

 Until these calamities be overpast.

 57:2I will cry unto God Most High,

 Unto God that performeth all things for me.

 57:3He will send from heaven, and save me,

 When he that would swallow me up reproacheth;

Selah

 God will send forth his lovingkindness and his truth.

 57:4My soul is among lions;

 I lie among them that are set on fire,

 Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows,

 And their tongue a sharp sword.

 57:5Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens;

 Let thy glory be above all the earth.

 57:6They have prepared a net for my steps;

 My soul is bowed down:

 They have digged a pit before me;

 They are fallen into the midst thereof themselves.

Selah

 57:7My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed:

 I will sing, yea, I will sing praises.

 57:8Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp:

 I myself will awake right early.

 57:9I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the peoples:

 I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.

 57:10For thy lovingkindness is great unto the heavens,

 And thy truth unto the skies.

 57:11Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens;

 Let thy glory be above all the earth.
