11:1And it came to pass, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem.
11:2And it came to pass at eventide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. 11:3And David send and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 11:4And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness); and she returned unto her house. 11:5And the woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, I am with child.
11:6And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David. 11:7And when Uriah was come unto him, David asked of him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered. 11:8And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of food from the king. 11:9But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. 11:10And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Art thou not come from a journey? wherefore didst thou not go down unto thy house? 11:11And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in booths; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open field; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing. 11:12And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to-day also, and to-morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow. 11:13And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
11:14And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 11:15And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die. 11:16And it came to pass, when Joab kept watch upon the city, that he assigned Uriah unto the place where he knew that valiant men were. 11:17And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people, even of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also. 11:18Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war; 11:19and he charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling all the things concerning the war unto the king, 11:20it shall be that, if the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore went ye so nigh unto the city to fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall? 11:21who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast an upper millstone upon him from the wall, so that he died at Thebez? why went ye so nigh the wall? then shalt thou say, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
11:22So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for. 11:23And the messenger said unto David, The men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entrance of the gate. 11:24And the shooters shot at thy servants from off the wall; and some of the king's servants are dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also. 11:25Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another; make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.
11:26And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she made lamentation for her husband. 11:27And when the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Jehovah.
4:1Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we faint not: 4:2but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. 4:3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish: 4:4in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn upon them. 4:5For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 4:6Seeing it is God, that said, Light shall shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 4:7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves; 4:8we are pressed on every side, yet not straitened; perplexed, yet not unto despair; 4:9pursued, yet not forsaken; smitten down, yet not destroyed; 4:10always bearing about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our body. 4:11For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 4:12So then death worketh in us, but life in you. 4:13But having the same spirit of faith, according to that which is written, I believed, and therefore did I speak; we also believe, and therefore also we speak; 4:14knowing that he that raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also with Jesus, and shall present us with you. 4:15For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound unto the glory of God. 4:16Wherefore we faint not; but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. 4:17For our light affliction, which is for the moment, worketh for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory; 4:18while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
18:1The word of Jehovah came unto me again, saying, 18:2What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge? 18:3As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel. 18:4Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die. 18:5But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, 18:6and hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbor's wife, neither hath come near to a woman in her impurity, 18:7and hath not wronged any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath taken nought by robbery, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; 18:8he that hath not given forth upon interest, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true justice between man and man, 18:9hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept mine ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord Jehovah. 18:10If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth any one of these things, 18:11and that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbor's wife, 18:12hath wronged the poor and needy, hath taken by robbery, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination, 18:13hath given forth upon interest, and hath taken increase; shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him. 18:14Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father's sins, which he hath done, and feareth, and doeth not such like; 18:15that hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbor's wife, 18:16neither hath wronged any, hath not taken aught to pledge, neither hath taken by robbery, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; 18:17that hath withdrawn his hand from the poor, that hath not received interest nor increase, hath executed mine ordinances, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live. 18:18As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity. 18:19Yet say ye, Wherefore doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? when the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. 18:20The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 18:21But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 18:22None of his transgressions that he hath committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. 18:23Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live? 18:24But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he hath done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. 18:25Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel: Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 18:26When the righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth therein; in his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 18:27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 18:28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 18:29Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? 18:30Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord Jehovah. Return ye, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. 18:31Cast away from you all your transgressions, wherein ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 18:32For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord Jehovah: wherefore turn yourselves, and live.
For the Chief Musician; after the manner of Jeduthan. A Psalm of David.
62:1My soul waiteth in silence for God only:
From him cometh my salvation.
62:2He only is my rock and my salvation:
He is my high tower; I shall not be greatly moved.
62:3How long will ye set upon a man,
That ye may slay him, all of you,
Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
62:4They only consult to thrust him down from his dignity;
They delight in lies;
They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly.
Selah
62:5My soul, wait thou in silence for God only;
For my expectation is from him.
62:6He only is my rock and my salvation:
He is my high tower; I shall not be moved.
62:7With God is my salvation and my glory:
The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
62:8Trust in him at all times, ye people;
Pour out your heart before him:
God is a refuge for us.

62:9Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie:
In the balances they will go up;
They are together lighter than vanity.
62:10Trust not in oppression,
And become not vain in robbery:
If riches increase, set not your heart thereon.
62:11God hath spoken once,
Twice have I heard this,
That power belongeth unto God.
62:12Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth lovingkindness;
For thou renderest to every man according to his work.
A Psalm of David when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
63:1O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee:
My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee,
In a dry and weary land, where no water is.
63:2So have I looked upon thee in the sanctuary,
To see thy power and thy glory.
63:3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise thee.
63:4So will I bless thee while I live:
I will lift up my hands in thy name.
63:5My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;
63:6When I remember thee upon my bed,
And meditate on thee in the night-watches.
63:7For thou hast been my help,
And in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
63:8My soul followeth hard after thee:
Thy right hand upholdeth me.
63:9But those that seek my soul, to destroy it,
Shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
63:10They shall be given over to the power of the sword:
They shall be a portion for foxes.
63:11But the king shall rejoice in God:
Every one that sweareth by him shall glory;
For the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
