2 Samuel

20:1And there happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel. 20:2So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

20:3And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.

20:4Then said the king to Amasa, Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be thou here present. 20:5So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together; but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him. 20:6And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight. 20:7And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri. 20:8When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out. 20:9And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with thee, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him. 20:10But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died.

And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri. 20:11And there stood by him one of Joab's young men, and said, He that favoreth Joab, and he that is for David, let him follow Joab. 20:12And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still. 20:13When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

20:14And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Beth-maacah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him. 20:15And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down. 20:16Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee. 20:17And he came near unto her; and the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thy handmaid. And he answered, I do hear. 20:18Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter. 20:19I am of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah? 20:20And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. 20:21The matter is not so: but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall. 20:22Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

20:23Now Joab was over all the host of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites; 20:24and Adoram was over the men subject to taskwork; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder; 20:25and Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests; 20:26and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister unto David.

2 Corinthians

13:1This is the third time I am coming to you. At the mouth of two witnesses or three shall every word established. 13:2I have said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as when I was present the second time, so now, being absent, to them that have sinned heretofore, and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not spare; 13:3seeing that ye seek a proof of Christ that speaketh in me; who to you-ward is not weak, but is powerful in you: 13:4for he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth through the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him through the power of God toward you. 13:5Try your own selves, whether ye are in the faith; prove your own selves. Or know ye not as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed ye be reprobate. 13:6But I hope that ye shall know that we are not reprobate. 13:7Now we pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we may appear approved, but that ye may do that which is honorable, though we be as reprobate. 13:8For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. 13:9For we rejoice, when we are weak, and ye are strong: this we also pray for, even your perfecting. 13:10For this cause I write these things while absent, that I may not when present deal sharply, according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up, and not for casting down. 13:11Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfected; be comforted; be of the same mind; live in peace: and the God of love and peace shall be with you. 13:12Salute one another with a holy kiss. 13:13All the saints salute you. 13:14The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

Ezekiel

27:1The word of Jehovah came again unto me, saying, 27:2And thou, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tyre; 27:3and say unto Tyre, O thou that dwellest at the entry of the sea, that art the merchant of the peoples unto many isles, thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Thou, O Tyre, hast said, I am perfect in beauty. 27:4Thy borders are in the heart of the seas; thy builders have perfected thy beauty. 27:5They have made all thy planks of fir-trees from Senir; they have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for thee. 27:6Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; they have made thy benches of ivory inlaid in boxwood, from the isles of Kittim. 27:7Of fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was thy sail, that it might be to thee for an ensign; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was thine awning. 27:8The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvad were thy rowers: thy wise men, O Tyre, were in thee, they were thy pilots. 27:9The old men of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to deal in thy merchandise. 27:10Persia and Lud and Put were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness. 27:11The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and valorous men were in thy towers; they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have perfected thy beauty. 27:12Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded for thy wares. 27:13Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy traffickers; they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass for thy merchandise. 27:14They of the house of Togarmah traded for thy wares with horses and war-horses and mules. 27:15The men of Dedan were thy traffickers; many isles were the mart of thy hand: they brought thee in exchange horns of ivory and ebony. 27:16Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of thy handiworks: they traded for thy wares with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and rubies. 27:17Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy traffickers: they traded for thy merchandise wheat of Minnith, and pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm. 27:18Damascus was thy merchant for the multitude of thy handiworks, by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches, with the wine of Helbon, and white wool. 27:19Vedan and Javan traded with yarn for thy wares: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were among thy merchandise. 27:20Dedan was thy trafficker in precious cloths for riding. 27:21Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they were the merchants of thy hand; in lambs, and rams, and goats, in these were they thy merchants. 27:22The traffickers of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy traffickers; they traded for thy wares with the chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold. 27:23Haran and Canneh and Eden, the traffickers of Sheba, Asshur and Chilmad, were thy traffickers. 27:24These were thy traffickers in choice wares, in wrappings of blue and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords and made of cedar, among thy merchandise. 27:25The ships of Tarshish were thy caravans for thy merchandise: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the heart of the seas. 27:26Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the heart of the seas. 27:27Thy riches, and thy wares, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the dealers in thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, with all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of thy ruin. 27:28At the sound of the cry of thy pilots the suburbs shall shake. 27:29And all that handled the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand upon the land, 27:30and shall cause their voice to be heard over thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes: 27:31and they shall make themselves bald for thee, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee in bitterness of soul with bitter mourning. 27:32And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, Who is there like Tyre, like her that is brought to silence in the midst of the sea? 27:33When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many peoples; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise. 27:34In the time that thou wast broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, thy merchandise and all thy company did fall in the midst of thee. 27:35All the inhabitants of the isles are astonished at thee, and their kings are horribly afraid; they are troubled in their countenance. 27:36The merchants among the peoples hiss at thee; thou art become a terror, and thou shalt nevermore have any being.

Psalms

For the Chief Musician; set to Al-tash-heth. A Psalm of Asaph; a song.

 75:1We give thanks unto thee, O God;

 We give thanks, for thy name is near:

 Men tell of thy wondrous works.

 75:2When I shall *find the set time, I will judge uprightly.

 75:3*The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:

 I have *set up the pillars of it.

Selah

 75:4I said unto the *arrogant, Deal not arrogantly;

 And to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

 75:5Lift not up your horn on high;

 Speak not *with a stiff neck.

 75:6For neither from the east, nor from the west,

 Nor yet *from the *south, cometh lifting up.

 75:7But God is the judge:

 He putteth down one, and lifteth up another.

 75:8For in the hand of Jehovah there is a cup, and the wine *foameth;

 It is full of mixture, and he poureth out of the same:

 Surely the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall drain them, and drink them.

 75:9But I will declare for ever,

 I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

 75:10All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off;

 But the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

Psalm 76

For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph, a song.

 76:1In Judah is God known:

 His name is great in Israel.

 76:2In Salem also is his tabernacle,

 And his *dwelling-place in Zion.

 76:3There he brake the *arrows of the bow;

 The shield, and the sword, and the battle.

Selah

 76:4Glorious art thou and excellent,

 *From the mountains of prey.

 76:5The stouthearted are made a spoil,

 They have slept their sleep;

 And none of the men of might have found their hands.

 76:6At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob,

 Both chariot and horse are cast into a deep sleep.

 76:7Thou, even thou, art to be feared;

 And who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?

 76:8Thou didst cause sentence to be heard from heaven;

 The earth feared, and was still,

 76:9When God arose to judgment,

 To save all the meek of the earth.

Selah

 76:10Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee:

 The residue of wrath shalt thou *gird upon thee.

 76:11Vow, and pay unto Jehovah your God:

 Let all that are round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.

 76:12He will cut off the spirit of princes:

 He is terrible to the kings of the earth.
