22:1And David spake unto Jehovah the words of this song in the day that Jehovah delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul: 22:2and he said,
Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer, even mine;
22:3God, my rock, in him will I take refuge;
My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge;
My saviour, thou savest me from violence.
22:4I will call upon Jehovah, who is worthy to be praised:
So shall I be saved from mine enemies.
22:5For the waves of death compassed me;
The floods of ungodliness made me afraid:
22:6The cords of Sheol were round about me;
The snares of death came upon me.
22:7In my distress I called upon Jehovah;
Yea, I called unto my God:
And he heard my voice out of his temple,
And my cry came into his ears.
22:8Then the earth shook and trembled,
The foundations of heaven quaked
And were shaken, because he was wroth.
22:9There went up a smoke out of his nostrils,
And fire out of his mouth devoured:
Coals were kindled by it.
22:10He bowed the heavens also, and came down;
And thick darkness was under his feet.
22:11And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly;
Yea, he was seen upon the wings of the wind.
22:12And he made darkness pavilions round about him,
Gathering of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
22:13At the brightness before him
Coals of fire were kindled.
22:14Jehovah thundered from heaven,
And the Most High uttered his voice.
22:15And he sent out arrows, and scattered them;
Lightning, and discomfited them.
22:16Then the channels of the sea appeared,
The foundations of the world were laid bare,
By the rebuke of Jehovah,
At the blast of the breath of his nostrils.
22:17He sent from on high, he took me;
He drew me out of many waters;
22:18He delivered me from my strong enemy,
From them that hated me; for they were too mighty for me.
22:19They came upon me in the day of my calamity;
But Jehovah was my stay.
22:20He brought me forth also into a large place;
He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
22:21Jehovah rewarded me according to my righteousness;
According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
22:22For I have kept the ways of Jehovah,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
22:23For all his ordinances were before me;
And as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.
22:24I was also perfect toward him;
And I kept myself from mine iniquity.
22:25Therefore hath Jehovah recompensed me according to my righteousness,
According to my cleanness in his eyesight.
22:26With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful;
With the perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect;
22:27With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure;
And with the perverse thou wilt show thyself froward.
22:28And the afflicted people thou wilt save;
But thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.
22:29For thou art my lamp, O Jehovah;
And Jehovah will lighten my darkness.
22:30For by thee I run upon a troop;
By my God do I leap over a wall.
22:31As for God, his way is perfect:
The word of Jehovah is tried;
He is a shield unto all them that take refuge in him.
22:32For who is God, save Jehovah?
And who is a rock, save our God?
22:33God is my strong fortress;
And he guideth the perfect in his way.
22:34He maketh his feet like hinds' feet,
And setteth me upon my high places.
22:35He teacheth my hands to war,
So that mine arms do bend a bow of brass.
22:36Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation;
And thy gentleness hath made me great.
22:37Thou hast enlarged my steps under me;
And my feet have not slipped.
22:38I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them;
Neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
22:39And I have consumed them, and smitten them through, so that they cannot arise:
Yea, they are fallen under my feet.
22:40For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle;
Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
22:41Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me,
That I might cut off them that hate me.
22:42They looked, but there was none to save;
Even unto Jehovah, but he answered them not.
22:43Then did I beat them small as the dust of the earth,
I did crush them as the mire of the streets, and did spread them abroad.
22:44Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people;
Thou hast kept me to be the head of the nations:
A people whom I have not known shall serve me.
22:45The foreigners shall submit themselves unto me:
As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me.
22:46The foreigners shall fade away,
And shall come trembling out of their close places.
22:47Jehovah liveth; And blessed be my rock;
And exalted be God, the rock of my salvation,
22:48Even the God that executeth vengeance for me,
And that bringeth down peoples under me,
22:49And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies:
Yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me;
Thou deliverest me from the violent man.
22:50Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Jehovah, among the nations,
And will sing praises unto thy name.
22:51Great deliverance giveth he to his king,
And showeth lovingkindness to his anointed,
To David and to his seed, for evermore.
2:1Then after the space of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me. 2:2And I went up by revelation; and I laid before them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles but privately before them who were of repute, lest by any means I should be running, or had run, in vain. 2:3But not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised: 2:4and that because of the false brethren privily brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: 2:5to whom we gave place in the way of subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you. 2:6But from those who were reputed to be somewhat (whatsoever they were, it maketh no matter to me: God accepteth not man's person)-- they, I say, who were of repute imparted nothing to me: 2:7but contrariwise, when they saw that I had been intrusted with the gospel of the uncircumcision, even as Peter with the gospel of the circumcision 2:8(for he that wrought for Peter unto the apostleship of the circumcision wrought for me also unto the Gentiles); 2:9and when they perceived the grace that was given unto me, James and Cephas and John, they who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision; 2:10only they would that we should remember the poor; which very thing I was also zealous to do. 2:11But when Cephas came to Antioch, I resisted him to the face, because he stood condemned. 2:12For before that certain came from James, he ate with the Gentiles; but when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing them that were of the circumcision. 2:13And the rest of the Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that even Barnabas was carried away with their dissimulation. 2:14But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Cephas before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest as do the Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, how compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews? 2:15We being Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 2:16yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed on Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law: because by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. 2:17But if, while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a minister of sin? God forbid. 2:18For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a transgressor. 2:19For I through the law died unto the law, that I might live unto God. 2:20I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me: and that life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me. 2:21I do not make void the grace of God: for if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nought.
29:1In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 29:2Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt; 29:3speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lieth in the midst of his rivers, that hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. 29:4And I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales; and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, with all the fish of thy rivers which stick unto thy scales. 29:5And I will cast thee forth into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open field; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered; I have given thee for food to the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the heavens. 29:6And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am Jehovah, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. 29:7When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou didst break, and didst rend all their shoulders; and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand. 29:8Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and will cut off from thee man and beast. 29:9And the land of Egypt shall be a desolation and a waste; and they shall know that I am Jehovah. Because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it; 29:10therefore, behold, I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, from the tower of Seveneh even unto the border of Ethiopia. 29:11No foot of man shall pass through it, nor foot of beast shall pass through it, neither shall it be inhabited forty years. 29:12And I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the midst of the countries that are desolate; and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be a desolation forty years; and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries. 29:13For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the peoples whither they were scattered; 29:14and I will bring back the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their birth; and they shall be there a base kingdom. 29:15It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it any more lift itself up above the nations: and I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations. 29:16And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, bringing iniquity to remembrance, when they turn to look after them: and they shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah. 29:17And it came to pass in the seven and twentieth year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 29:18Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyre: every head was made bald, and every shoulder was worn; yet had he no wages, nor his army, from Tyre, for the service that he had served against it. 29:19Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall carry off her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army. 29:20I have given him the land of Egypt as his recompense for which he served, because they wrought for me, saith the Lord Jehovah. 29:21In that day will I cause a horn to bud forth unto the house of Israel, and I will give thee the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
78:1Give ear, O my people, to my *law:
Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
78:2I will open my mouth in a parable;
I will utter dark sayings of old,
78:3Which we have heard and known,
And our fathers have told us.
78:4We will not hide them from their children,
Telling to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah,
And his strength, and his wondrous works that he hath done.
78:5For he established a testimony in Jacob,
And appointed a law in Israel,
Which he commanded our fathers,
That they should make them known to their children;
78:6That the generation to come might know them, even the children that should be born;
Who should arise and tell them to their children,
78:7That they might set their hope in God,
And not forget the works of God,
But keep his commandments,
78:8And might not be as their fathers,
A stubborn and rebellious generation,
A generation *that set not their heart aright,
And whose spirit was not stedfast with God.
78:9The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows,
Turned back in the day of battle.
78:10They kept not the covenant of God,
And refused to walk in his law;
78:11And they forgat his doings,
And his wondrous works that he had showed them.
78:12Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers,
In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
78:13He clave the sea, and caused them to pass through;
And he made the waters to stand as a heap.
78:14In the day-time also he led them with a cloud,
And all the night with a light of fire.
78:15He clave rocks in the wilderness,
And gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.
78:16He brought streams also out of the rock,
And caused waters to run down like rivers.
78:17Yet went they on still to sin against him,
To rebel against the Most High in the *desert.
78:18And they tempted God in their heart
By asking food *according to their desire.
78:19Yea, they spake against God;
They said, Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
78:20Behold, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out,
And streams overflowed;
Can he give bread also?
Will he provide flesh for his people?
78:21Therefore Jehovah heard, and was wroth;
And a fire was kindled against Jacob,
And anger also went up against Israel;
78:22Because they believed not in God,
And trusted not in his salvation.
78:23Yet he commanded the skies above,
And opened the doors of heaven;
78:24And he rained down manna upon them to eat,
And gave them *food from heaven.
78:25*Man did eat the bread of the mighty:
He sent them food to the full.
78:26He *caused the east wind to blow in the heavens;
And by his power he guided the south wind.
78:27He rained flesh also upon them as the dust,
And winged birds as the sand of the seas:
78:28And he let it fall in the midst of their camp,
Round about their habitations.
78:29So they did eat, and were well filled;
And he gave them their own desire.
78:30They were not estranged from that which they desired,
Their food was yet in their mouths,
78:31When the anger of God went up against them,
And slew of the fattest of them,
And smote down the young men of Israel.
78:32For all this they sinned still,
And believed not in his wondrous works.
78:33Therefore their days did he consume in vanity,
And their years in terror.
78:34When he slew them, then they inquired after him;
And they returned and sought God earnestly.
78:35And they remembered that God was their rock,
And the Most High God their redeemer.
78:36But they flattered him with their mouth,
And lied unto him with their tongue.
78:37For their heart was not *right with him,
Neither were they faithful in his covenant.
