23:1Now these are the last words of David.
David the son of Jesse saith,
And the man who was raised on high saith,
The anointed of the God of Jacob,
And the sweet psalmist of Israel:
23:2The Spirit of Jehovah spake by me,
And his word was upon my tongue.
23:3The God of Israel said,
The Rock of Israel spake to me:
One that ruleth over men righteously,
That ruleth in the fear of God,
23:4He shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth,
A morning without clouds,
When the tender grass springeth out of the earth,
Through clear shining after rain.
23:5Verily my house is not so with God;
Yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant,
Ordered in all things, and sure:
For it is all my salvation, and all my desire,
Although he maketh it not to grow.
23:6But the ungodly shall be all of them as thorns to be thrust away,
Because they cannot be taken with the hand
23:7But the man that toucheth them
Must be armed with iron and the staff of a spear:
And they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place
23:8These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite, against eight hundred slain at one time.
23:9And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodai the son of an Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away. 23:10He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword; and Jehovah wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to take spoil.
23:11And after him was Shammah the son of Agee a Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a plot of ground full of lentils; and the people fled from the Philistines. 23:12But he stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah wrought a great victory.
23:13And three of the thirty chief men went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam; and the troop of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim. 23:14And David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem. 23:15And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate! 23:16And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah. 23:17And he said, Be it far from me, O Jehovah, that I should do this: shall I drink the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
23:18And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three. 23:19Was he not most honorable of the three? therefore he was made their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first three.
23:20And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he slew the two sons of Ariel of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow. 23:21And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear. 23:22These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men. 23:23He was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.
23:24Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem, 23:25Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite, 23:26Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, 23:27Abiezer the Anathothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite, 23:28Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite, 23:29Heleb the son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, 23:30Benaiah a Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash. 23:31Abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite, 23:32Eliahba the Shaalbonite, the sons of Jashen, Jonathan, 23:33Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Ararite, 23:34Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maacathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite, 23:35Hezro the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite, 23:36Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite, 23:37Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, armorbearers to Joab the son of Zeruiah, 23:38Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite, 23:39Uriah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.
3:1O foolish Galatians, who did bewitch you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly set forth crucified? 3:2This only would I learn from you. Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3:3Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now perfected in the flesh? 3:4Did ye suffer so many things in vain? if it be indeed in vain. 3:5He therefore that supplieth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3:6Even as Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness. 3:7Know therefore that they that are of faith, the same are sons of Abraham. 3:8And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all the nations be blessed. 3:9So then they that are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham. 3:10For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one who continueth not in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them. 3:11Now that no man is justified by the law before God, is evident: for, The righteous shall live by faith; 3:12and the law is not of faith; but, He that doeth them shall live in them. 3:13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 3:14that upon the Gentiles might come the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 3:15Brethren, I speak after the manner of men: Though it be but a man's covenant, yet when it hath been confirmed, no one maketh it void, or addeth thereto. 3:16Now to Abraham were the promises spoken, and to his seed. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. 3:17Now this I say: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God, the law, which came four hundred and thirty years after, doth not disannul, so as to make the promise of none effect. 3:18For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise: but God hath granted it to Abraham by promise. 3:19What then is the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise hath been made; and it was ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator. 3:20Now a mediator is not a mediator of one; but God is one. 3:21Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could make alive, verily righteousness would have been of the law. 3:22But the scriptures shut up all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. 3:23But before faith came, we were kept in ward under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 3:24So that the law is become our tutor to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 3:25But now faith that is come, we are no longer under a tutor. 3:26For ye are all sons of God, through faith, in Christ Jesus. 3:27For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ. 3:28There can be neither Jew nor Greek, there can be neither bond nor free, there can be no male and female; for ye all are one man in Christ Jesus. 3:29And if ye are Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, heirs according to promise.
30:1The word of Jehovah came again unto me, saying, 30:2Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Wail ye, Alas for the day! 30:3For the day is near, even the day of Jehovah is near; it shall be a day of clouds, a time of the nations. 30:4And a sword shall come upon Egypt, and anguish shall be in Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt; and they shall take away her multitude, and her foundations shall be broken down. 30:5Ethiopia, and Put, and Lud, and all the mingled people, and Cub, and the children of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword. 30:6Thus saith Jehovah: They also that uphold Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her power shall come down: from the tower of Seveneh shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord Jehovah. 30:7And they shall be desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate; and her cities shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted. 30:8And they shall know at I am Jehovah, when I have set a fire in Egypt, and all her helpers are destroyed. 30:9In that day shall messengers go forth from before me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid; and there shall be anguish upon them, as in the day of Egypt; for, lo, it cometh. 30:10Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also make the multitude of Egypt to cease, by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon. 30:11He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, shall be brought in to destroy the land; and they shall draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain. 30:12And I will make the rivers dry, and will sell the land into the hand of evil men; and I will make the land desolate, and all that is therein, by the hand of strangers: I, Jehovah, have spoken it. 30:13Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause the images to cease from Memphis; and there shall be no more a prince from the land of Egypt: and I will put a fear in the land of Egypt. 30:14And I will make Pathros desolate, and will set a fire in Zoan, and will execute judgments upon No. 30:15And I will pour my wrath upon Sin, the stronghold of Egypt; and I will cut off the multitude of No. 30:16And I will set a fire in Egypt: Sin shall be in great anguish, and No shall be broken up; and Memphis shall have adversaries in the day-time. 30:17The young men of Aven and of Pibeseth shall fall by the sword; and these cities shall go into captivity. 30:18At Tehaphnehes also the day shall withdraw itself, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt, and the pride of her power shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity. 30:19Thus will I execute judgments upon Egypt; and they shall know that I am Jehovah. 30:20And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 30:21Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and, lo, it hath not been bound up, to apply healing medicines, to put a bandage to bind it, that it be strong to hold the sword. 30:22Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong arm, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand. 30:23And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries. 30:24And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand: but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he shall groan before him with the groanings of a deadly wounded man. 30:25And I will hold up the arms of the king of Babylon; and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am Jehovah, when I shall put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt. 30:26And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them through the countries; and they shall know that I am Jehovah.
78:38But he, being merciful, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not:
Yea, many a time turned he his anger away,
And did not stir up all his wrath.
78:39And he remembered that they were but flesh,
A wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.
78:40How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness,
And grieve him in the desert!
78:41And they turned again and tempted God,
And *provoked the Holy One of Israel.
78:42They remember not his hand,
Nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;
78:43How he set his signs in Egypt,
And his wonders in the field of Zoan,
78:44And turned their rivers into blood,
And their streams, so that they could not drink.
78:45He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them;
And frogs, which destroyed them.
78:46He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar,
And their labor unto the locust.
78:47He *destroyed their vines with hail,
And their sycomore-trees with *frost.
78:48He gave over their cattle also to the hail,
And their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
78:49He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger,
Wrath, and indignation, and trouble,
*A band of angels of evil.
78:50He *made a path for his anger;
He spared not their soul from death,
But gave *their life over to the pestilence,
78:51And smote all the first-born in Egypt,
The *chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.
78:52But he led forth his own people like sheep,
And guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
78:53And he led them safely, so that they feared not;
But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
78:54And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary,
To this *mountain, which his right hand had gotten.
78:55He drove out the nations also before them,
And allotted them for an inheritance by line,
And made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
78:56Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God,
And kept not his testimonies;
78:57But turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers:
They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
78:58For they provoked him to anger with their high places,
And moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
78:59When God heard this, he was wroth,
And greatly abhorred Israel;
78:60So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh,
The tent which he placed among men;
78:61And delivered his strength into captivity,
And his glory into the adversary's hand.
78:62He gave his people over also unto the sword,
And was wroth with his inheritance.
78:63Fire devoured their young men;
And their virgins had no marriage-song.
78:64Their priests fell by the sword;
And their widows made no lamentation.
78:65Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep,
Like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.
78:66And he smote his adversaries backward:
He put them to a perpetual reproach.
78:67Moreover he refused the tent of Joseph,
And chose not the tribe of Ephraim,
78:68But chose the tribe of Judah,
The mount Zion which he loved.
78:69And he built his sanctuary like the heights,
Like the earth which he hath established for ever.
78:70He chose David also his servant,
And took him from the sheepfolds:
78:71From following the ewes that have their young he brought him,
To be the shepherd of Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.
78:72So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart,
And guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
