1:1Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat. 1:2Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and cherish him; and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat. 1:3So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 1:4And the damsel was very fair; and she cherished the king, and ministered to him; but the king knew her not.
1:5Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. 1:6And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he was also a very goodly man; and he was born after Absalom. 1:7And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him. 1:8But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men that belonged to David, were not with Adonijah. 1:9And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel; and he called all his brethren, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants: 1:10but Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.
1:11Then Nathan spake unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not? 1:12Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon. 1:13Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thy handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign? 1:14Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
1:15And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was ministering unto the king. 1:16And Bath-sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou? 1:17And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by Jehovah thy God unto thy handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne. 1:18And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and thou, my lord the king, knowest it not: 1:19and he hath slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host; but Solomon thy servant hath he not called. 1:20And thou, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. 1:21Otherwise it will come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.
1:22And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet came in. 1:23And they told the king, saying, Behold, Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. 1:24And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? 1:25For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and say, Long live king Adonijah. 1:26But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called. 1:27Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not showed unto thy servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
1:28Then king David answered and said, Call to me Bath-sheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king. 1:29And the king sware, and said, As Jehovah liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity, 1:30verily as I sware unto thee by Jehovah, the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; verily so will I do this day. 1:31Then Bath-sheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did obeisance to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.
1:32And king David said, Call to me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king. 1:33And the king said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon: 1:34and let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel; and blow ye the trumpet, and say, Long live king Solomon. 1:35Then ye shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead; and I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah. 1:36And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: Jehovah, the God of my lord the king, say so too. 1:37As Jehovah hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.
1:38So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon. 1:39And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil out of the Tent, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, Long live king Solomon. 1:40And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
1:41And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar? 1:42While he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said, Come in; for thou art a worthy man, and bringest good tidings. 1:43And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king: 1:44and the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule; 1:45and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon; and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard. 1:46And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom. 1:47And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, Thy God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne: and the king bowed himself upon the bed. 1:48And also thus said the king, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.
1:49And all the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way. 1:50And Adonijah feared because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. 1:51And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon; for, lo, he hath laid hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me first that he will not slay his servant with the sword. 1:52And Solomon said, If he shall show himself a worthy man, there shall not a hair of him fall to the earth; but if wickedness be found in him, he shall die. 1:53So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and did obeisance to king Solomon; and Solomon said unto him, Go to thy house.
5:1For freedom did Christ set us free: stand fast therefore, and be not entangled again in a yoke of bondage. 5:2Behold, I Paul say unto you, that, if ye receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing. 5:3Yea, I testify again to every man that receiveth circumcision, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. 5:4Ye are severed from Christ, ye would be justified by the law; ye are fallen away from grace. 5:5For we through the Spirit by faith wait for the hope of righteousness. 5:6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love. 5:7Ye were running well; who hindered you that ye should not obey the truth? 5:8This persuasion came not of him that calleth you. 5:9A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. 5:10I have confidence to you-ward in the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. 5:11But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? then hath the stumbling-block of the cross been done away. 5:12I would that they that unsettle you would even go beyond circumcision. 5:13For ye, brethren, were called for freedom; only use not your freedom for an occasion to the flesh, but through love be servants one to another. 5:14For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 5:15But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. 5:16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 5:17For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would. 5:18But if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 5:19Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 5:20idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, parties, 5:21envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like; of which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they who practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 5:22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 5:23meekness, self-control; against such there is no law. 5:24And they that are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts thereof. 5:25If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. 5:26Let us not become vainglorious, provoking one another, envying one another.
32:1And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 32:2Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say unto him, Thou wast likened unto a young lion of the nations: yet art thou as a monster in the seas; and thou didst break forth with thy rivers, and troubledst the waters with thy feet, and fouledst their rivers. 32:3Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will spread out my net upon thee with a company of many peoples; and they shall bring thee up in my net. 32:4And I will leave thee upon the land, I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle upon thee, and I will satisfy the beasts of the whole earth with thee. 32:5And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy height. 32:6I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, even to the mountains; and the watercourses shall be full of thee. 32:7And when I shall extinguish thee, I will cover the heavens, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give its light. 32:8All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord Jehovah. 32:9I will also vex the hearts of many peoples, when I shall bring thy destruction among the nations, into the countries which thou hast not known. 32:10Yea, I will make many peoples amazed at thee, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for thee, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of thy fall. 32:11For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon thee. 32:12By the swords of the mighty will I cause thy multitude to fall; the terrible of the nations are they all: and they shall bring to nought the pride of Egypt, and all the multitude thereof shall be destroyed. 32:13I will destroy also all the beasts thereof from beside many waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts trouble them. 32:14Then will I make their waters clear, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord Jehovah. 32:15When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate and waste, a land destitute of that whereof it was full, when I shall smite all them that dwell therein, then shall they know that I am Jehovah. 32:16This is the lamentation wherewith they shall lament; the daughters of the nations shall lament therewith; over Egypt, and over all her multitude, shall they lament therewith, saith the Lord Jehovah. 32:17It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 32:18Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, unto the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit. 32:19Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised. 32:20They shall fall in the midst of them that are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword; draw her away and all her multitudes. 32:21The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of Sheol with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie still, even the uncircumcised, slain by the sword. 32:22Asshur is there and all her company; her graves are round about her; all of them slain, fallen by the sword; 32:23whose graves are set in the uttermost parts of the pit, and her company is round about her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror in the land of the living. 32:24There is Elam and all her multitude round about her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living, and have borne their shame with them that go down to the pit. 32:25They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude; her graves are round about her; all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for their terror was caused in the land of the living, and they have borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that are slain. 32:26There is Meshech, Tubal, and all their multitude; their graves are round about them; all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for they caused their terror in the land of the living. 32:27And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, that are gone down to Sheol with their weapons of war, and have laid their swords under their heads, and their iniquities are upon their bones; for they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. 32:28But thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with them that are slain by the sword. 32:29There is Edom, her kings and all her princes, who in their might are laid with them that are slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit. 32:30There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who are gone down with the slain; in the terror which they caused by their might they are put to shame; and they lie uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit. 32:31Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, saith the Lord Jehovah. 32:32For I have put his terror in the land of the living; and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that are slain by the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord Jehovah.
For the Chief Musician, set to *Shoshanim Eduth.. A Psalm of Asaph.
80:1Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
Thou that leadest Joseph like a flock;
Thou that *sittest above the cherubim, shine forth.
80:2Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up thy might,
And come to save us.
And cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
80:4O Jehovah God of hosts,
How long *wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?
80:5Thou hast fed them with the bread of tears,
And given them tears to drink in large measure.
80:6Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbors;
And our enemies laugh among themselves.
80:7Turn us again, O God of hosts;
And cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
80:8Thou broughtest a vine out of Egypt:
Thou didst drive out the nations, and plantedst it.
80:9Thou preparedst room before it,
And it took deep root, and filled the land.
80:10The mountains were covered with the shadow of it,
And *the boughs thereof were like *cedars of God.
80:11It sent out its branches unto the sea,
And its shoots unto the River.
80:12Why hast thou broken down its walls,
So that all they that pass by the way do pluck it?
80:13The boar out of the wood doth ravage it,
And the wild beasts of the field feed on it.
80:14Turn again, we beseech thee, O God of hosts:
Look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine,
80:15And *the stock which thy right hand planted,
And the *branch that thou madest strong for thyself.
80:16It is burned with fire, it is cut down:
They perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.
80:17Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand,
Upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.
80:18So shall we not go back from thee:
Quicken thou us, and we will call upon thy name.
80:19*Turn us again, O Jehovah God of hosts;
Cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.
