1 Kings

2:1Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, 2:2I am going the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and show thyself a man; 2:3and keep the charge of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his ordinances, and his testimonies, according to that which is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself. 2:4That Jehovah may establish his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel. 2:5Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did unto me, even what he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner, and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins, and in his shoes that were on his feet. 2:6Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace. 2:7But show kindness unto the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at thy table; for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom thy brother. 2:8And, behold, there is with thee Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, of Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim; but he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I sware to him by Jehovah, saying, I will not put thee to death with the sword. 2:9Now therefore hold him not guiltless, for thou art a wise man; and thou wilt know what thou oughtest to do unto him, and thou shalt bring his hoar head down to Sheol with blood.

2:10And David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. 2:11And the days that David reigned over Israel were forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem. 2:12And Solomon sat upon the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

2:13Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon. And she said, Comest thou peaceably? And he said, Peaceably. 2:14He said moreover, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And she said, Say on. 2:15And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's; for it was his from Jehovah. 2:16And now I ask one petition of thee; deny me not. And she said unto him, Say on. 2:17And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king (for he will not say thee nay), that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife. 2:18And Bath-sheba said, Well; I will speak for thee unto the king.

2:19Bath-sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her, and sat down on his throne, and caused a throne to be set for the king's mother; and she sat on his right hand. 2:20Then she said, I ask one small petition of thee; deny me not. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother; for I will not deny thee. 2:21And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother to wife. 2:22And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah. 2:23Then king Solomon sware by Jehovah, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah hath not spoken this word against his own life. 2:24Now therefore as Jehovah liveth, who hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me a house, as he promised, surely Adonijah shall be put to death this day. 2:25And king Solomon sent by Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he fell upon him, so that he died.

2:26And unto Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord Jehovah before David my father, and because thou wast afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted. 2:27So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto Jehovah, that he might fulfil the word of Jehovah, which he spake concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

2:28And the tidings came to Joab; for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though he turned not after Absalom. And Joab fled unto the Tent of Jehovah, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. 2:29And it was told king Solomon, Joab is fled unto the Tent of Jehovah, and, behold, he is by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him. 2:30And Benaiah came to the Tent of Jehovah, and said unto him, Thus saith the king, Come forth. And he said, Nay; but I will die here. And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab, and thus he answered me. 2:31And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him, and bury him; that thou mayest take away the blood, which Joab shed without cause, from me and from my father's house. 2:32And Jehovah will return his blood upon his own head, because he fell upon two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, and my father David knew it not, to wit, Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah. 2:33So shall their blood return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever: but unto David, and unto his seed, and unto his house, and unto his throne, shall there be peace for ever from Jehovah. 2:34Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and fell upon him, and slew him; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness. 2:35And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host; and Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of Abiathar.

2:36And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee a house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither. 2:37For on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook Kidron, know thou for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood shall be upon thine own head. 2:38And Shimei said unto the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

2:39And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants of Shimei ran away unto Achish, son of Maacah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants are in Gath. 2:40And Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish, to seek his servants; and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath. 2:41And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath, and was come again. 2:42And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Did I not adjure thee by Jehovah, and protest unto thee, saying, Know for certain, that on the day thou goest out, and walkest abroad any whither, thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me, The saying that I have heard is good. 2:43Why then hast thou not kept the oath of Jehovah, and the commandment that I have charged thee with? 2:44The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thy heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father: therefore Jehovah shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head. 2:45But king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before Jehovah for ever. 2:46So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out, and fell upon him, so that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

Galatians

6:1Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 6:2Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 6:3For if a man thinketh himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 6:4But let each man prove his own work, and then shall he have his glorying in regard of himself alone, and not of his neighbor. 6:5For each man shall bear his own burden. 6:6But let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 6:7Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 6:8For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. 6:9And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 6:10So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith. 6:11See with how large letters I write unto you with mine own hand. 6:12As many as desire to make a fair show in the flesh, they compel you to be circumcised; only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. 6:13For not even they who receive circumcision do themselves keep the law; but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. 6:14But far be it from me to glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world hath been crucified unto me, and I unto the world. 6:15For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 6:16And as many as shall walk by this rule, peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. 6:17Henceforth, let no man trouble me; for I bear branded on my body the marks of Jesus. 6:18The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

Ezekiel

33:1And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 33:2Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman; 33:3if, when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; 33:4then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning, if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 33:5He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him; whereas if he had taken warning, he would have delivered his soul. 33:6But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned, and the sword come, and take any person from among them; he is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand. 33:7So thou, son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. 33:8When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die, and thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at thy hand. 33:9Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, and he turn not from his way; he shall die in his iniquity, but thou hast delivered thy soul. 33:10And thou, son of man, say unto the house of Israel: Thus ye speak, saying, Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we pine away in them; how then can we live? 33:11Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 33:12And thou, son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall he that is righteous be able to live thereby in the day that he sinneth. 33:13When I say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his righteousness, and commit iniquity, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered; but in his iniquity that he hath committed, therein shall he die. 33:14Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right; 33:15if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die. 33:16None of his sins that he hath committed shall be remembered against him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live. 33:17Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal. 33:18When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die therein. 33:19And when the wicked turneth from his wickedness, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby. 33:20Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways. 33:21And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten. 33:22Now the hand of Jehovah had been upon me in the evening, before he that was escaped came; and he had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb. 33:23And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 33:24Son of man, they that inhabit those waste places in the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance. 33:25Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes unto your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land? 33:26Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbor's wife: and shall ye possess the land? 33:27Thus shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As I live, surely they that are in the waste places shall fall by the sword; and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured; and they that are in the strongholds and in the caves shall die of the pestilence. 33:28And I will make the land a desolation and an astonishment; and the pride of her power shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, so that none shall pass through. 33:29Then shall they know that I am Jehovah, when I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment, because of all their abominations which they have committed. 33:30And as for thee, son of man, the children of thy people talk of thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from Jehovah. 33:31And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but do them not; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their gain. 33:32And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument; for they hear thy words, but they do them not. 33:33And when this cometh to pass, (behold, it cometh,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

Psalms

For the Chief Musician; set to the Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph.

 81:1Sing aloud unto God our strength:

 Make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

 81:2Raise a song, and *bring hither the timbrel,

 The pleasant harp with the psaltery.

 81:3Blow the trumpet at the new moon,

 At the full moon, on our feast-day.

 81:4For it is a statute for Israel,

 An ordinance of the God of Jacob.

 81:5He appointed it in Joseph for a testimony,

 When he went out *over the land of Egypt,

 Where I heard *a language that I knew not.

 81:6I removed his shoulder from the burden:

 His hands were freed from the basket.

 81:7Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee;

 I answered thee in the secret place of thunder;

 I proved thee at the waters of Meribah.

Selah

 81:8Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee:

 O Israel, if thou wouldest hearken unto me!

 81:9There shall no strange god be in thee;

 Neither shalt thou worship any foreign god.

 81:10I am Jehovah thy God,

 Who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt:

 Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

 81:11But my people hearkened not to my voice;

 And Israel would none of me.

 81:12So I let them go after the stubbornness of their heart,

 That they might walk in their own counsels.

 81:13Oh that my people would hearken unto me,

 That Israel would walk in my ways!

 81:14I would soon subdue their enemies,

 And turn my hand against their adversaries.

 81:15The haters of Jehovah should *submit themselves unto him:

 But their time should endure for ever.

 81:16He would feed them also with the *finest of the wheat;

 And with honey out of the rock would I satisfy thee.

Psalm 82

A Psalm of Asaph.

 82:1God standeth in the congregation of God;

 He judgeth among the gods.

 82:2How long will ye judge unjustly,

 And respect the persons of the wicked?

Selah

 82:3Judge the *poor and fatherless:

 Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.

 82:4Rescue the poor and needy:

 Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

 82:5They know not, neither do they understand;

 They walk to and fro in darkness:

 All the foundations of the earth are shaken.

 82:6I said, Ye are gods,

 And all of you sons of the Most High.

 82:7Nevertheless ye shall die like men,

 And fall like one of the princes.

 82:8Arise, O God, judge the earth;

 For thou shalt inherit all the nations.
